. Alright, it is time for us to get started with our West Coast Bible study. This is Max, WB7MX, Net Control for the West Coast Bible study.

And before we get started, I want to open in prayer. Roger, WB7VZL, if you could open in prayer for us today, I would sure appreciate that. Go ahead there, Roger.

Thank you. Dear Lord, we're just so full of praise that you're in your creation amongst the trees. And we're just so delighted that we could see the stars last night.

Oh, Lord, thank you so much. so much that also, as the Book of Daniel says, we can be as stars with understanding. So if we open Your Word today, we thank You for the blessed Holy Spirit to give us that hunger for knowing Your Word.

In Jesus' name, Amen. Roger, thank you so much for that. All right, we are in Psalm 62 today.

Now, in the psalm that we're going to be looking at today, David is very confident, even though he's under assault by those who despise him and hate him. He's expressing confidence in God in this psalm, that God is going to save him and defend him, and be merciful to him. And there is scarcely another psalm in which David expresses such an absolute calm and such an undisturbed peace regarding his circumstances as he does in this psalm.

And his confidence is so completely unshaken, and his assurance is so strong that he does not make one request or offer one prayer in this psalm. David is not dismayed. He's not troubled by the adverse circumstances he's in or by the enemies he's facing because he is strong in faith and he's giving glory to God.

And he is persuaded that what God has promised, he's able also to perform. And so in this poem, we see no expression of fear. We see no expression of dismay or anxiety or doubt.

He's just trusting in the Lord with all of his heart, and he's trusting in the Lord alone. And... over and over again he uses the word only notice verse 2 he only is my rock and salvation and he uses that word again and again uh declaring that god is the sole object of his trust and he's not trusting in anything other than god so he has no trust in men He has no trust in money.

He's trusting in God alone, and because he does so, he has the peace that passes all understanding. And we really see that strongly expressed in this psalm. And so our problem is that we frequently look to places other than God.

for our help to solve our problems. We look to money, we look to people, and then only after they fail us do we turn to God. Well, we need to turn to God first.

He needs to be our first object of trust, our only object of trust, and our complete object of trust. So David here is filled with a full assurance of faith that God really can and God really will work all things together for his good. Now we know at other times, through reading the other Psalms, at times David's faith was weak.

And we know he struggled with whether God was going to help him or not. But in this Psalm, we have David strong in faith, triumphant in his faith, and secure in his faith. And so this psalm is really an illustration of what faith can do to the attitude when faith is great and when faith is placed in God himself.

And so the walk of faith is the victorious walk and the peaceful walk. So that's a little background to our psalm. That's the overall theme of our psalm.

And what we're going to do now is read the psalm, and then we will talk about what's in it. So I'm going to be reading the psalm today out of the King James Version, Psalm 62, beginning at verse 1. Truly my soul waiteth upon God From him cometh my salvation He only is my rock and my salvation He is my defense I shall not be greatly moved How long will you imagine mischief against a man?

You shall be slain, all of you As a bowing wall shall you be, as a tottering fence. They only consult to cast him down from his excellency. They delight in lies.

They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah. My soul, wait thou only upon God, for my expectation is from him.

He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense. I shall not be moved.

In God is my salvation and my glory. The rock of my strength and my refuge is in God. Trust in him and at all times, you people, pour out your heart before him.

God is a refuge for us. Selah. Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie.

To be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery. If riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

God has spoken once, twice have I heard this, that power belongs unto God, also unto thee, O Lord. The Lord with mercy, for thou renderest to every man according to his work. All right, thus far, the reading of God's Word.

And, you know, this song is unique in the style of song that we've seen yet. Psalm 55 to the 61, there's a lot of anxiety and stress involved here. And here we see a reflective, meditative, resolved psalm of a man at peace.

with God where all the vanity of this world is stripped away and the core, as you put faith and trust in the relationship with God, comes forth. You know, I just wanted to look at the beginning here where it says he waits on God. And in the Hebrew, my notes here I have that the word waits is really not in there in Hebrew, but the expression is that for God alone am I silent.

And that silence is not the lacking of activity, but it's the ceasing of the anxious striving for peace, that in God that that peace is found, that in Him... alone is that peace found. Not trying to manage things by our own affairs and finding resolution and finding that peace, but in Him alone is my soul silent.

Is there that peace? with God. And as you point out very well, this is a psalm of exclusivity.

We see throughout the psalm points to God and God alone for this relationship and for this peace, for this trust. for this faith. And I think it's not even until verse 12 until there's any kind of request whatsoever.

But yeah, what a beautiful, meditative, reflective psalm, a psalm of mature faith here. It's just a beautiful psalm, to a certain extent. Yeah, real good, Kevin.

Before I respond to your comments, the net would like to acknowledge Don AC7KW. Good morning, Don. See you there on the Utah SDR.

Appreciate you being there. Yes, Kevin, for sure. You know, what I found interesting, I just underlined the word "only" every time it shows up.

You mentioned it's there in verse 1, wrapped up in the word wait. The idea my soul waits on God alone is the idea. But then verse 2, he only is my rock and my salvation.

Verse 5, my soul wait thou only upon God. Verse 6, He only is my rock and salvation. And then in verse 7, my refuge is in God.

Verse 8, trust in Him at all times. And so you really see this laser focus, as you mentioned, Kevin, on God Himself as the object of trust and as the sole object of trust. You know, we're told to trust in the Lord because vain is the help of man.

Right. And so over and over again we're told that God is to be the sole object of our trust. So thanks for pointing that out in verse 1 as well, because from Him, verse 1, comes our salvation.

It doesn't come from anywhere else. It comes from Him. So anyway, Kevin, great comment.

I'm going to go ahead and get the next one. I am a volunteer at the I work with No Limit on the air I do the job that I'm supposed to do and I have a lot of time to give and I'm going to do a lot of work that I have to do and I'm working on my about one other thing that I need to do to make use of my ability to to do things to do things that I want to do and and how he is walking up the hill, who is out of all of his dreams, and he is leaning into the Lord, and he is asking the Lord to be in silence, and he is asking the Lord to tell him what to do, because that's the reason, that's his silence, that's what he's praying for. Yeah, okay, thank you for that.

Yeah, that's interesting. There's Psalm 62 is the only psalm in the book of Psalms. That's funny because it uses the word only so much.

That's good. I like that, Mark. Yeah, you know, David...

and so thank you for pointing that out Mark really appreciate that there in verse 4 okay other comments please come now okay there is Joe KD7WVV Joe go ahead You know, there's a rock here by me, and I'll just make my hand and put you into the cleft of the rock. And then I'll turn around and you can see my backside. You know, that's Exodus chapter 33.

And I think of that, you know, it's probably good to look that over because, you know, that we use the word God, you know, and there are many, many gods out there. And there's only one God. that created time, space, and matter.

And that's who we are talking about, 87W. Yeah, Joe, I really like that illustration you brought out of Exodus 33 there about how God hit Moses in the cleft of the rock. and then cover him there with his hand.

There's a hymn about that, an old hymn I really enjoy. He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock and covers me there with his hand. So, yeah, you know, God protects us.

God provides us with a place of refuge. God is the one who is caring for us in the worst of our circumstances. And if we could just believe that, we could have a ton of peace regarding that.

And so, you know, we have to put our faith in God. We have to strengthen that faith. And, you know, the Bible says, Joe, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God there in Romans 10.

And what I find is that the more I read the Bible, the stronger my faith is. The more I read the Bible, the less I worry about my circumstances. The more I read the Bible, the more I can see and have perspective on what's going on and be able to manage the anxiety.

that comes along because the Bible just strengthens our faith and our perspective, our understanding, and our trust in God. And you're right. It's not belief in God in general that strengthens anyone.

It's faith in the God of the Bible in particular. Because as you said, He's the one and only God. And you know, I run into people all the time who say, Yeah, I believe in God.

Well, pray tell, what God is that? Define this God for me that you're believing in. And so unless it's specifically the God of the Bible, then faith in God is just a mirage.

And it's a fantasy and it will turn out to be of no help and no value with reference to not only our present circumstances but also our eternal outcomes. Most people believe in a God that they define themselves, a God that they're comfortable with, a God that doesn't challenge them, a God that's just kind of like a big brother there to help them out when they're in trouble and the rest of the time he leaves them alone. Well, that's not the God of the Bible.

So, Joe, thanks for pointing out the protection and the identity of the God that we believe in and trust in and find genuine help from. All right. Great comment, Joe.

Okay, besides that, in the way that David expressed it here, God is my rock, my salvation, and my stronghold, and I shall not be greatly shaken. And here we see three... attributes that come from God that God is the source of and and in here he's saying that to that he's not going to be shaken you know we know David was shaken in his life by attacks from his enemies by betrayal some defeats yet He never lost that foundation, kept him solid because that foundation was God.

God was his salvation. God was his stronghold. You know, God was that rock.

And I'm going to make a tie to the New Testament in just a little, well, in a way that, you You know, we know that Jesus uses the expressions, the illustrations and imagery of rocks a lot in his ministry. You know, upon the word, he talks about as a solid foundation, the rock that we can build our faith in our life. What you pointed to, Max, you know, trust and faith and relationship with God is not possible without his word, that we are connected to the God of his word.

But we also see, too, that Jesus is the foundation stone of our life. That was rejected, you know, but again, he is the rock, the foundation in Matthew 16, 18. You know, upon this rock, I shall build my church, which many know is a play on words.

Petros, you are the small rock, Greek for a small stone, but upon this rock, upon the foundation of me. I shall build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against her. And I know a lot of historically people think of Jesus as a carpenter, and that may be true.

But the Greek word that described his role or his skill was really the word for technician. And I've always pictured Jesus probably more likely as a stonemason. because it not only congruent with his illustrations that he used in the architecture and building of the times that often was stone primarily, but also it is congruent with the Old Testament in the expressions as we see here in Psalm 62 here as well.

So that's my personal thought there. But the connection here that the source of the salvation, you know, the source of that refuge, the source of that stronghold is God. And yes, life can shake us up as it did David.

But you're not going to, God's not going to let go. You're not going to slip away when you have that foundation of our Lord. KB 7 Zedek's in.

Yeah, well said, Kevin. You know, this whole metaphor of the rock is one that occurs constantly in the book of Psalms and also throughout the Bible. Joe, KD7WVV both pointed out that God hid Moses.

in a cleft of the rock. And of course, Kevin, you pointed out in Matthew, Jesus said, you know, he who builds his house on my sayings is like a man who built his house on a rock. And so over and over again, and it would pay anybody to get a computer program or a concordance, look up the word rocks, and just see all the places it's used, all the ways in which it's used, as a metaphor for stability, for security, for protection, for strength.

It conveys at least all of those ideas. And, of course, you know, humanly speaking, you know, when the Bible was written, A rock, and still today, a rock is the most stable thing there is. You know, when you look at the mountains made out of rock, nobody's going to haul those things away, nobody's going to move them to a different location.

And so it's the best metaphor of a picture for the stability that God provides us with, and the protection. the refuge and the strength. Nothing stronger than rock.

You know, I remember when I built my house, pouring the foundation, right? And I'm thinking to myself, this is liquid stone that we're pouring out here. And pretty soon it's going to harden into real rock.

And of course it does. I'm sitting in a house that's been sitting on a rock foundation for 35 years ago I built this thing. I'm sorry.

... Yeah, Mark. Talk to yourself, get yourself squared away so that you regain your perspective on the Word of God and the promises of God and your situation and your place before God.

And then you can turn around and help others gain that same kind of balance and stability as well. All right, other comments, please come down. 5 Yankee?

5 Yankee, back, go ahead. Okay, we're probably misinterpreting, per usual. But I look at verse 11, and I kind of get a chuckle, because it says, God has spoken once, but yet he heard it twice.

Well, right, okay. So what he's doing is he's saying, I've heard this over and over again is the idea, okay? And so when he says, God has spoken once, twice have I heard this, he's saying...

you know, this is something I've heard God say, and I've heard Him say it again, and I've heard Him say it again. And, of course, what He heard being said is power belongs to God. So He's just talking about how that, you know, we hear the same things over and over again.

You know, when you look at the New Testament back, for example, Paul says in Philippians chapter 3, All right, we are really out of time. It is actually 640, and so it's time for us to go to prayer. Are there any final prayer requests anybody wants to bring to our attention?

Please come down. All right, well, let's go to the Lord in prayer. Our kind and gracious Father, we thank you so much for Psalm 62 and the example it is to us of our need to be strong in faith.

the betrayal, the backstabbing. But, you know, David recognizes that these people have no stability. They're like a tottering wall or a fence with rotten fence posts that soon will fall over.

But we have a rock that never totters, that never falls, that never suffers decay or loss of strength. And that rock is you, Father. Thank you for being that rock to us.

And so, Lord, we purpose once again not to trust in people, not to trust in finances, not to trust in money or men, but, Father, to trust in you alone. Father, we just pray that you would strengthen our faith, help us as we read the scriptures to believe what is there and to rejoice in that, rest in that, and find our peace and courage and confidence in that. And now, Lord, today we want to bring before you our request, Father.

We want to pray for Rochelle, Jerry's boss, who is traveling to Stanford today for a chemo treatment for her cancer. Lord, we pray that you would give her a safe journey up and back. And Lord, we pray that you would use the chemotherapy to eradicate the cancer from her body.

Lord, we just pray that you would strengthen her in her faith in you. And Lord, that you would surround her with a felt sense of your comfort, your peace. and your care for her.

Give Jerry wisdom in encouraging her in the things of God. And, Lord, I pray for a good outcome to this battle that she's involved in. Lord, I want to pray today for Ted, the KK70QQ.

Thank you, Father, that he's getting treatment for his eye. Lord, I pray that you would heal his eyes. I don't know if it's one or both, but Father, whichever it is, just bring healing there so that he can see clearly to read your word.

Lord, we just want to thank you for his friend Steve that he met who gave him a ride home. Father, Steve's wife just passed away. And Lord, I just ask that you would have mercy on Steve and give him peace and comfort.

And Father, if he's a believer, Father, may he find his peace in you. And if he's not, may he seek you and be saved by you. Father, we thank you that Jerry, AE70R, had a safe trip to Springfield and back yesterday.

We'll just pray that your good hand of blessing will be on him and on his heart condition, Father. I just ask that he would have stability and regularity in his heartbeat. Father, we continue to pray for Brian, K-7 VIP, for safety as he paints his house.

Lord, I just pray that that would go well and he would be able to complete that project. Father, we pray for Mike, W-7 CWO, for the healing of his torn rotator cuff. Lord, we just pray that you'd heal his shoulder up.

We pray for remission. of his wife Sherry's Meniere's disease. Father, that flares up and flares down.

Lord, we just pray that you would subdue that and keep it in remission. Father, we pray for Mike's granddaughter Jocelyn. Lord, that you would save her and give Jerry opportunity, perhaps, to share the gospel with her.

Lord, we pray for Keith, a K7 NEB. His daughter, Sierra, has a baby in utero with spina bifida. Lord, we pray for wisdom and treatment options.

And, Lord, we pray that... that the doctors might be able to close that spinal opening up and that this baby would be born well and healthy. Father, you know what's going on there.

We pray that your wisdom and direction will be manifest. And, Lord, may there be peace and joy in the life of Sarah and her husband. and all who are related to them.

Father, we continue to pray for Brother Ed in 6XOH, who's going to be preaching tomorrow. Father, give him wisdom in his final preparations. Father, I pray that you give him power and strength as he preaches.

Lord, give him assurance. and the felt sense of your spirit working in and through the preaching of the Word of God. Open the hearts of the people, Father, who hear Ed preach.

And, Father, may it be that he knows your grace and help in that preaching. We pray for his brother-in-law, Ed, and his wife, that they would be able to sell their house. Father, we want to thank you that Roger, dead baby son of VZL, made it safely up to Coville with his friends.

And, Lord, I pray your good hand of blessing would be on them as they fellowship together and enjoy your natural creation. Father, We're going to continue to pray for Will, KM5S, that his hormone treatment and radiation will be effective in restraining and removing his prostate cancer. Lord, we pray for Martha Fay at her broken toe.

Father, we're sorry about that, and Lord, we just pray that you would heal that thing up quickly. and that she would be able to walk without any ongoing pain or difficulty there. Father, we just pray for Joe, KD7WBD, for his brother Jim and his head injury.

We pray for healing for him. And Lord, we just ask that he would know remission from any symptoms from that. Father, we just want to pray today for Mark at KJ7PVT.

His brother-in-law David is having surgery today at 10 o'clock for malignant melanoma on his neck. Lord, I pray that they'd be able to get all of that out and that none of that would have gone into his body. Lord, we pray for Jeff, AK6OK.

Father, we hear from him that 20,000 Bibles are going out like today or yesterday. Lord, I just pray that you would bless each of those Bibles. May each one be given to a troop, and Father, may each one either be saved or sanctified as a result of reading those Bibles.

Lord, bring revival among our troops through the Bibles that Jeff is sending to them. Father, I want to pray for Carol, KK7TPO, her son-in-law Chris, had back surgery. Pray for continued healing, for wisdom in the rehabilitation process.

And Lord, for a good outcome and a speedy recovery and a long-term success, Father, so that he can work. Father, we continue to pray for Tom, WW17, and his recovery from his spinal surgery. Lord, we pray for freedom from pain.

We pray for increased mobility, and we pray for his need for an electric wheelchair. Father, we just pray that he can get his antenna back up so we can hear his voice once again. Father, we continue to pray for Beck, Alfalfa 5 Yankee, for his continued healing and resolution of his double vision, for full restoration of hearing in his ear.

And Father, we pray for his wife Sandy and her cold. Thank you that she's doing a little better. But Lord, we pray for her continued healing.

Lord, we want to praise you for Kathleen Vaughn, who broke her neck, had some surgery. It was successful. And Lord, she has movement in her legs and her feet.

And Lord, we're so grateful for that. It appears she's not going to suffer any permanent nerve damage. And Lord, we praise you for that.

Lord, just continue to heal Kathleen. I pray, Lord, that... everything would turn out well, and that she would recover from this without any complications down the road.

Lord, we pray for Becky Abernathy, that you would heal her from her terminal cancer, and that you would save her. Lord, pray that you continue to work in the life of that, in the body of my pastor, Jeff Black. who has severe ulcerative colitis.

Father, we just pray that he would overcome this recent setback that he's had. Lord, we pray that you would continue to work in his life and bring him healing, Father, so he has strength and so he has proper... intestinal function.

The Lord will continue to pray for Cody, K-I-7-T-R-F, and his dad, Roger, a Lord who has stage 4 colon cancer. The Lord will pray for healing for him. Lord, we know he has multiple medical issues.

We know that everyone is going to pass from this world sooner or later. And, Father, we know that Roger's in a tough, tough situation, but, Lord, it's not more difficult than what you can handle. So, Lord, according to your will, either heal him or prepare him, Father, to be with yourself as you see fit.

Father, we pray for Cody's uncle, Doug. that he would recover from his severe head injury. Lord, we know he's lost eyesight in one eye.

And Lord, we just pray for his ongoing treatment and recovery. Father, have mercy on Doug. Lord, we pray for Cody's niece, Zoe.

Lord, this young woman, starting out in life, needs to make good decisions. Lord, we pray for her salvation, Lord, that she would make choices that would move her toward Christ and away from foolishness. Father, we thank you for our brother Jerry, KG6J.

Lord, we pray that you would continue to heal his chronic and acute back pain. Lord, thank you for that. You've had some improvement, but Lord, he's got a long way to go.

We just pray for mercy. Father, for Steve, W6YSI, the sale of his home in Challenge, California, and for wisdom in finding a new home in Tuolumne County. Lord, just facilitate that whole difficult, long, arduous process.

so that in due time they can be down there near their kids and pray that Steve would find a place where he can get antennas up and continue to join us here on the West Coast Bible Study. Father, we pray for Scott, KD7YQT. We pray for his wife, Pam.

had a little flare-up in her lupus. Lord, we pray that you would beat that back down and cause that lupus, Father, to go into remission. Lord, may her immune system properly regulate so that it's not attacking her own body tissues.

Alright, well good morning to everybody. So Max, you were mentioned before the net. You were talking about getting rid of the going up to the woods.

That brings back a lot of memories. My family, my grandfather, had a lot more games. We would go out and do it.

And I'm on a little left of the turn here. And I'm surrounded by trees. I went with all four of them.

I remember those years, we worked so hard, you know, cutting wood is really hard. We've dominated the plant, but 65 years old, you know, about four years ago, we had a pellet stove installed. So now all I do is go back to the hardware store, pick up a pellet, and get a corn there for us.

And that's been a good time. And I find that's the one year I'm back to use. copy that Scott.

Yeah, I'm 70 now and still cutting my own firewood. We cut about six cord every year to heat our house. I have a larger acreage than you do, so we have enough trees here to be able to supply our firewood.

So yeah, I've been cutting firewood for 35 like six quarts a year to heat the house with. And it's all we heat the house with. We don't use anything else.

And, you know, I was saying to Kathy yesterday, we go out and get wood together. You know, she helps put it in the trailer. And, like, I wonder how much longer I'm going to be able to do this.

You know, I like the exercise. I enjoy the activity. And, you know, it's good work for our bodies, so we're grateful for that.

But, yeah, the whole pellet stove thing, that's on the horizon. We're not quite there yet, but someday that's exactly the direction we're going to go because You can get a scoop of pellets and put them in the top of the stove when you're old and decrepit, but Yeah, getting firewood in well They say it warms you twice right once when you cut it and once when you burn it And we're just talking about how much we handle the wood you know you fall the tree you cut it up and then you have to handle it split it and and then you have to handle it to put it in the trailer, and then you have to handle it to take it out of the trailer and put it on the wood pile and then off the wood pile, into the wheelbarrow, up the hill to the house, out of the wheelbarrow, into the stove. You handle it about six times before you finally get any heat out of it.

So, Scott, good decision, brother. That frees you up to do a lot of other things. The other thing about a pellet stove is they're clean.

You know, when we carry firewood in and out of the house, right, there's always little pieces of bark and whatever falling off the piece of wood you're carrying. And so we constantly have to vacuum up that tile between the doorway and the wood stove. So there's that, too.

Back to you, Scott. Yeah, we live in a wide vacuum. It's pretty well-equipped.

We've been using it for a while. It's been like a bit more than four years. So, um, I can tell that time is huge.

You might be starting at the energy rate. I continue to go on. My wife and I are going to get related to that energy.

And they say that the energy is the rate. I agree. The reason why they're doing it is because there's a lot more electricity and stuff like that.

and that, you know, But, yeah, we really love the whole show. We leave the whole house. My home is about including the deaths that are on the floor, and the people that are dying, and the names that are on the seats.

And, yeah, I used to see his entire home in our primary school. So, in fact, I'm going to be doing major teams to get ready for him to fall in winter. But yeah, when you said that, I thought, I remember those days.

I think a lot of that got good and a lot of hard work in the morning, but it does make it all get over. Yeah, well, I think you made a good choice. It frees you up to be able to do lots of other things.

And while, you know, it's more expensive because you've got to buy the pellets, my wood is free. other than the cost of the gas for the chainsaw and the chainsaw itself. Yeah, pallet stoves are a great way to go.

I love wood heat. It's dry. And in Oregon, we have high humidity, lots of rain, and so heating with gas, that's a wet heat.

Firewood is a dry heat. Gas is great when you're in a dry climate, but it's not so great in a wet climate like this. So we really enjoy our wood stove.

And you know, it's a place you can go and get warm, right? I have a fairly large house, and so it's a matter of, you know, the back bedrooms, you know, maybe are not as warm as downstairs right next to the wood stove. and enjoy seeing the flames through the glass door.

And you know, there's just a lot of ambiance and enjoyment that comes from wood heat. And I know on your power stove, you probably have, you can see in there as well and enjoy the flame and go up next to it and get warm. So yeah, there's nothing like wood heat.

I grew up with it, okay? So I was in San Bernardino, California, where I was born for eight years. And I don't know what the...

I think the folks must have used natural gas for heat. But then we moved up to Northern California, and it's been wood heat ever since. Even when I was in Sacramento, I put a wood stove in the house.

Since I was doing landscaping, I was able to get tree removal jobs and that kind of thing. I always had plenty of firewood. So even when I had natural gas heat, I still burned a wood stove.
