Lord, thank you so much for Bible study this morning. Thanks for everybody who's checked in here and ask you, Lord, for guidance as we read through Psalm 60 and a full understanding of what it means. Thanks for everybody that's attending this morning and for Max for leading up in your precious name.

Appreciate that. And yeah, I think I will have you read Psalm 60 when the time comes. Appreciate that offer, Jeff.

So if you could get ready for that, that'd be great. Okay, we are in Psalm 60 today. You know, we are constantly involved in battles of one kind or another.

And we have some promises regarding those battles. It says in 2 Corinthians 2 and verse 14, Thanks be to God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ. So for us, the triumph, the outcome of the battle is certain.

There's always going to be ultimate victory over all evil and all opposition and those who would try to pull us down and pull us away from Christ. But that doesn't mean the battles go away, even though the outcome is certain. So, you know, we have these struggles.

We have these spiritual, financial, social, intellectual, spiritual, sometimes even physical battles that we fight. And, you know, we need to have comfort. We need to have peace.

in those battles because, you know, we don't just go from victory to victory. Sometimes in our spiritual warfare we suffer some significant defeat. And those defeats that God allows in our lives...

serve a purpose. You know, I mean, God could give us the victory every single time we encounter spiritual warfare. But you know as well as I do that he doesn't.

And so sometimes these defeats, God uses them in a positive way. It increases our humility and our self-distrust and increases our faith and trust in Jesus as the one who can and will forgive us. Sometimes these defeats are to correct us for presumptuous sins and neglect of the means of grace.

Sometimes these defeats put us in a position to achieve even greater victory later on because of the lessons we learn from them and because of the growth that we have as a result of them. God doesn't just cause growth through victories. Oftentimes our defeats are the cause of reflection and reorganization of our priorities and reestablishment of our lives in a better way so that we do better next time around.

Sometimes a defeat is designed to prepare us for a more effective ministry. Those who have struggled and fallen understand the struggles and the falls of others. Of course, that's never a justification for sin, but it is the fact that God brings good out of every circumstance in spite of the evil that is in it.

our failures are designed to keep us from self-confidence and putting our confidence in our procedures and our policies. We need to put our faith and trust in God. Sometimes we don't know why we have to think.

And that's David's situation in our psalm today. David and the people of God have suffered a pretty significant military defeat in their battle with the Edomites. And David's thinking, well, what's this about?

You know, here we are, we're serving God, we're being faithful to God, not conscious of any personal sin, not conscious of any national sin. And yet we went to battle and we got clobbered. And we are wondering, you know, what's going on here?

God, are you displeased with us? He's conscious of no sin or any transgression. All he knows is that the battle is of the Lord, and the Lord has allowed them to be defeated in the battle.

And David's thinking, well, is God displeased with us? Now, we know from the narrative that they went back to the battle again, and they finally won the battle. And you can read about that in 2 Samuel 8, 13-14, and 2 Chronicles 18, 12-13.

David and his generals did eventually have the victory, but in the process, they suffered some defeat. So the lesson in this psalm is simply this. What do you do when you're serving the Lord and you suffer a significant defeat in your ministry, in your spiritual warfare, whatever's going on?

Maybe, you know, you suffered a defeat with a sin that you've been having victory over and then suddenly, boom. You fall into that again. Well, what this psalm tells us to do is don't stop fighting.

You know, get up and fight again. Don't get mad at God as though he's done you wrong. Don't compromise your principles to try to get some kind of a victory.

And don't surrender and join the other side. And so what you do in your defeat is you go to God, you pour out your heart, you plead for victory, you renew your faith and trust in God, and you wait on him to bring the victory and the triumph, and he will. So that's the lesson of our psalm.

That's kind of the background of what's going on here, some of the personal applications that flow out of it. All right, Jeff, AK6OK, if you could read for us Psalm 60, I would appreciate that. Go ahead.

You bet, Max, and good morning, everybody. You know, I've been through this many, many times with what we do with Bibles. And by the way, just for your information, everybody, 50,000 Bibles were unloaded yesterday, and another 10,000 are being unloaded today at our warehouse here.

And it wasn't without some issues, and I'll explain that later, but good praise going on here. Let's read Psalm 60, verse 1. You have rejected us, O God, and broken our defenses.

You've been angry with us, now restore us to your favor. You've shaken our land and split it open sealed the cracks for the land trembled You have been a very hard on us making us drink wine that sent us reeling But you have raised a banner for those who fear you a rallying point in in the face of attack. Verse 5.

Now rescue your beloved people. Answer and save us by your power. God has promised this by his holiness.

I will divide up Shechem with joy. I will measure out the valley of Shechem. Gilead is mine and Manasseh too.

Ephraim, my helmet, will produce my warriors and Judah, my scepter, will produce my kings. But Moab, my wash-patient, will become my servant, and I will wipe my feet on Edom, and shout in triumph over Philistia. Who will bring me to the fortified city?

Who will bring me victory over Edom? Have you rejected us, O God? Will you no longer march with our armies?

Oh, please help us against our enemies, for all human help is useless. With God's help, we will do mighty things, for he will trample down our foes. There you go, Max.

Good morning. Thank you, Jeff. AT6, okay, for that reading of Psalm 60.

All right, are there any comments on this psalm? Please come down to call time. Let me just get to it.

Let's see. Yeah, that's in verse 7, verse 6, I think it is. Just a second here.

Yeah, I'll have to get back to you on that. Yeah, okay, here it is. Yeah, the city of Shechem is west of Jordan.

Okay, so Jordan River runs from the Dead Sea. Strike that, from the Sea of Galilee down to the Dead Sea. and so the River Jordan runs between those two, and Shechem is west of Jordan.

Succoth is east of Jordan. Gilead is the whole region east of Jordan from the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea. It's where Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh dwelt.

And of course the other half of Manasseh covered the region west of the Jordan. Ephraim was just to the south of Manasseh on the west side of the Jordan. And Judah was the region to the west of the Dead Sea where Jerusalem was and the government of Israel resided.

The point is, Ted, is that verses 6 and 7 describe the land of Israel which God had given to them. And God says, all these places are mine. They belong to me.

I'll give them. and measure them out as I see it fit Israel's mind of sovereign over it. So that's the idea there.

Back to you, Ted. Oh, yeah, I like that. Yeah, that's interesting.

And, you know, a lot of times, you know, I struggle also with a lot of things with my own pride and self-awareness. I try to be aware of it. but yeah with other things I struggle with and sometimes I think I'm really walking pretty well uh yeah sometimes I can start thinking I'm doing so well I you know and it can turn into pride pretty fast and that's why I think God allows me to call to bring me down a notch or two and say, "Well, you know, I have to give glory to God." And I like where it says, "Through God we will move valiantly, for it is He who shall kill down our enemies." So I always have to go to God every day, and depending on His grace and power, and uh might to uh cast down all these uh evil attacks uh and always remember him and not just me walking in my own strength and uh my my own uh big ego it can turn into an ego trip that's the danger uh so i always i always Thank God for His grace and power to live the Christian life in the Holy Spirit.

I've done that. I've gone down that road." And thank you for sharing that. Yep, we need to maintain our humility, and sometimes falls are designed just to produce that.

Please come down. AK6OK alright we had a double there first of all we'll go with Joe KD7WBV Joe go ahead I was looking at 3 and 4 There's a couple things here. For those that fear me, you know, the Bible says in Proverbs 8, 13, and just the definition for that, the fear of the Lord is a evil pride.

"Arrogance is an evil way to throw a vows" It's definition And then you look at Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Where Solomon said, "Let us hear the conclusion of the matter" Fear God, and the commandment, for that is the whole speech of man. So we see some things coming together, and you look at Isaiah, and the Song of Solomon, and which chapter, and the words that I've raised up, children and they felled against me. And so you have to kind of go look back and see how God dealt with these children.

Probably an easy example is like Melchizedek in Daniel chapter 5. Like the Lord said, "Hey you, way over there, guess you." Come here, sit down. You know, you're kind of talking about judgment.

You've shown your people hard things and made us drink the wine of the Son, and I think we need to break that out, because we have children today that are running amok in church, running amok in the marketplace and on the streets. So I think it would be good to break this down. And as far as the banner, I'm curious to read about that in Revelation 14, chapter 14, verse 6.

You know, where it says... The angel says, "Everlasting gospel." So the banner is the gospel. Well, I'm scared.

So there's a lot here to dive into. 87w. Joe, thank you for bringing out all those Scripture passages.

There's a bunch of them. they they all address the issue here yeah verse 4 you know it says I was given a banner to them that fear thee that it may be displayed because of the truth so a banner was a flag or a symbol on a pole that the troops rallied around in battle. It told them where their comrades were, where their commander was located.

It reassured them that the Army was still fighting and going forward. So that's what a banner was. And the banner is what the troops look to for encouragement.

It's what they look to for orientation. It's what they look to for guidance for their next move in the heat of battle. Now, in our context, the banner is not a literal flag or a visible symbol.

Rather, the banner is the Word of God. The passage says this to be displayed because of the truth or in the face of the truth or because of the truth, this banner is being displayed. So the banner under which we rally, as Joe well said, is the Word of God.

And of course for Israel that was the Old Testament, the Old Covenant and all of its promises around which they rallied and to which they looked for orientation and encouragement in the battle. And so because of the truth of God's promises contained in the Old Covenant, that was their banner that they looked to. Israel took courage and hope in the battle that God would fight on Israel's behalf.

And so what we do in our battles is we look to our banner, which is the Bible. And Joe brought out a number of passages that address that. the spiritual battles that we face and that we fight.

And the fact that people aren't looking to the Bible is the reason why there's so many problems in individual lives and families and churches and even in our nation. Joe, KD7WBV, great comment. Thank you for that.

All right, the other comment we had coming was Jeff AK605. Jeff, please go ahead. wait on God in faith, and trust God for the decisions that he makes.

And so crisis turns the Christian toward God. Crisis does not turn the Christian away from God. A crisis causes us to double down.

on our faith in God and in our prayers to God and in our trust to God. It doesn't cause us to throw up our hands and walk away. And that's how you can tell if someone really is a genuine Christian or not.

The fake Christians in crisis get mad at God and walk away from God. The real Christians in crisis draw near to God, humble themselves before God, and redouble their prayers, their faith, their trust, and their walk. So, Jeff, you know, your life's been an example of doing exactly that, doubling down, drawing near, increasing trust, continuing to cling.

And that's pleasing to God because without faith it's impossible to please God. He who comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those who what? Diligently seek him.

And so that's what we see here is diligent seeking of God even in the face of perplexities and even in the face of defeats. we still keep going toward God. A great comment there, Jeff.

The The - Yeah, Mark, good copy, copy all. Yeah, you know, the question is, has God cast off His people? And the answer is, God has not cast off His people, which He foreknew.

And so, you know, God knows who His people are. God is faithful to His people. And while it may appear, based on circumstances, that God has cast off His people, we have some pretty strong promises here.

For example, Jesus said, Lord, I'm with you always, even to the end of the age, in Matthew 28 and verse 20. He says in Hebrews 13, 5, I will never leave you nor forsake you. And then God has not cast off his people, Romans 11, right?

And so what we have is the covenant faithfulness of God. Now, look, when we look at our circumstances, it may appear, that God has cast them off. Now, had God really cast off David, had God really cast off the armies here in Psalm 60 in this battle with the Edomites, God had not cast them off.

What God was doing is allowing them to struggle. Okay, now look a lot of us are parents right? We've raised kids We know part of a kid growing up as letting him try and fail and struggle And it's like dad help me.

No, you can figure it out Just keep going and you know, you let the kids struggle you let him cry you let him suffer some defeat Because that's how he learned that's how he grows and finally he overcomes it and it's like looky there. I You know, by sticking with it and by being faithful and trying again and again and again, you've got to figure it out. Good for you.

And it builds confidence and it builds maturity. Well, that's how God deals with us. So what we cannot do is judge God based on our faulty perception of the providential circumstances that happen in our lives.

The written word of God will give us guidance in those situations. But what that demands is that we've got to know what it says, right? I mean, Daniel was reading Jeremiah.

He was reading his Bible. And that's how he knew. And so the better we know our Bibles, the more God's going to use His Spirit to bring those words to our memories, so that we go, oh, okay, this is what God says about this.

So by all means, read your Bibles, and that is your banner. That's your instrument by which you're going to guide your way through difficult circumstances. All right, Roger, great comment.

Biophysical therapy will provide relief from pain. and increase mobility. Pray that his need for a wheelchair will be met.

Pray his antenna can be put back up. Next, 885Y, we pray for continued healing and resolution of his double vision. Pray for full restoration of the tearing in his right ear.

Their neighbor Nancy needs healing from terminal cancer. The owner also needs salvation. Lord, reach her, touch her heart, bring her to you.

We pray for healing for Sandy's cold, for the lawsuit against her property developer to be successful. Just Black. Just Black Pastor.

Lord, have mercy on this man. Yes, severe ulcer and colitis. We pray for healing through the medical system.

And the doctor says, you know, it's like you never had cancer. Your body's perfectly clean of any sign of any cancer at all. So they'll continue to monitor him over time.

But what a wonderful report and what a great answer to prayer. And he went from having brain tumors. to having no cancer at all.

That is just wonderful, brother. KB7ZXN. Yeah, Kevin, he had a tumor in his brain the size of a ping pong ball, as well as a couple of others, and he had a spot on his lung.

And they did surgery and took out the one tumor. They used gamma radiation to do the others. And then they put him on immunotherapy, something that strengthens his immune system.

And, you know, the cancer all went away through that immunotherapy and the surgery. So just praising the Lord for that. You know, I had always understood malignant melanoma was like a certain death symptom.

And, you know, for him to be completely healed is just a source of just overwhelming joy and gratitude and thanksgiving. It's just an amazing outcome that, frankly, I was praying for, but, you know, was thinking, ah, this is it. But God did exceedingly abundantly above all that was asked or thought.

Yeah, I don't know exactly what it was, but what it was is that it was something to stimulate his immune system so that he would produce more white blood cells, more T cells. And so it was his own immune system. And that seemed to have worked really well in this situation, over.

Well, absolutely. Yeah. And I've heard similar type of approaches where, you know, different, you know, different No, Kathleen Warren is my neighbor that fell a couple of days ago and broke her neck.

I didn't hear her mentioned in the prayer list. Oh, copy that, copy that. Yeah, we prayed for her that day for sure, but I'm not sure I got her on the list.

Thank you for reminding me of that. Yeah, she was life flighted to Eugene. to save her from paralysis.

We prayed about that yesterday, and I don't think I got that on the list to pray about today. I apologize for that. I will get that on.

Is there any news about her? Over. No, I didn't want to contact Michael because I know that he's...

and I don't get sleeping well, and he just had three strokes himself and having a hard time. I wanted to give it a couple of days before I gave him a poem. Yeah, copy that.

No worries. Okay, thank you for that reminder. I'm not sure why I didn't get that on the list for today, but somehow I overlooked it.

So we prayed for her when you gave the request. But we will put that on the list, and we'll be sure to pray for her tomorrow. And we can pray for her right now.

Father, we just pray for Kathleen Vaughn. Lord, she broke her neck. She had to be life-flighted to Eugene.

Father, have mercy on Kathleen. Pray that you would... restore all of her functions.

Lord, may the nerves not be permanently damaged, and Lord, may the physicians have wisdom in not only bringing healing to the bones in her neck, but also to all those nerves. Lord, just be with her husband who had some strokes. Father, have mercy on him.
