Oh, that coffee is good this morning. I'm glad to hear that, especially with the cup you're drinking it out of, right? Yeah.

Now I gotta check my blood pressure, see how it's affecting me. Yeah, copy that. So you have high blood pressure?

Oh, I do fight that. You know, it's just because I'm wired that way. You know, my blood pressure is fine when I get up in the morning, but by the time I get to the office, it's rocking and rolling.

Yeah, I copy that. I'm the same way. It goes down at night when I'm asleep, and during the day it pops right back up.

So, anyway, you know... I think different people have different levels that they normally operate at. And they want to try to get me all panicked and, "Oh, you got to go take your blood pressure medication." You know what?

The side effects of that medication are such that and the ineffectiveness of that medication are such that I don't think I'm going to go down that road. I'll just try to manage it with diet, exercise, sleep, all the things that we're supposed to do. And, you know, casting all my cares on the Lord and reducing that level of anxiety.

So anyway, each to his own. Everyone gets to chart their own course of medical treatment for their own life. firm believer in that but uh yeah i am i have to deal with that as well jeff go ahead yeah well after the three cardiac arrests back in oh six uh they they monitored my um all my all my vinyls very very closely so i take my blood pressure three times a day and report back to them and all that kind of stuff.

So just trying to keep it where it belongs, keep my heart good. Yeah, copy that and good for you. Do you find the blood pressure medication seems to work pretty well for you?

They do. One problem with me is in the morning it's really strange. I wake up at 4:30, something like that.

Blood pressure is normal. By the time 5 o'clock, 5:30 hits and I'm heading down here, it can go up, way up. Where I have to sometimes take a nitro or a rescue mat to get it back down.

That is pretty good. When I get home, it's low. It's up all over the map until I get home and I relax.

Oh man, it drops like a rock. Well, I'll copy that. All right.

Well, you know, our lives are in the Lord's hands, and I'm glad you're managing it and, you know, doing the best you can with it. All right. CB7MA, X-ray net control for the West Coast Model Study.

I didn't realize why. I just woke up. I overslept by an hour and a half.

I don't know why I woke up early but I looked at the clock I had an hour to go and turned over and he cuddled up alongside me we both went back to sleep until I he woke me up later I was oversleeping sorry about that I'll see you later and 7bke Well Jim, I am really glad you slept in. That is good. You sleep is how our body heals.

And I'm sure Bobby was wondering, "Where is my food?" But it sounds like he's doing better after that spite of illness that he has had. So praise the Lord for that. All right, Jim, N7BKE, we got you checked in.

Thank you for being here. All right, any other check-ins please come now. All right, this is WB7MAX, and we are in Psalm 54.

We're going to get started with that today. Before we do, and while we're all assembled, I want to read to you a text message from, let's see, where is it here? But I'm...

Oh, there it is. Okay, from Doc, W6RLJ. Doc, as you know, was a combat medic in Vietnam.

He got very sick. He was a regular... on the West Coast Bible study here.

He got very sick, and we prayed for him every day for months. And he wrote me this text message. I thought it would be useful for us all to hear it.

He says, to a very special Christian group, good morning. And he's talking to us. He says, "During the dark times it has been so comforting to know you and the group have had me in your prayers.

Hospital time for me was approximately six weeks, plus three weeks in private hospitals and five at Stanford-attached military hospitals. In the middle of the night many times I would review Bible promises, searching for security that God always provides. Yet we as humans keep searching for even more as it sits on right in front of us.

The med team came up with an answer and a name. I have multiple myeloma, a form of treatable cancer. that is detrimental to the kidneys.

That's why Doc was having all these kidney problems. It's treatable and provides a positive outcome over a long period for an extended life. I am in treatment doing much better than I was, and I thank a great God for that blessing along with a thankful heart and for your continued prayers.

None of us know the future, but we do know that whatever God has planned for us is better than an alternative that does not include what God has in mind for our lives. So that's Doc's message of gratitude to the West Coast Bible Study for praying for him during all those dark times. that he was in the hospital, didn't know what was going on, and finally got good treatment, proper diagnosis, and now has a good prognosis.

And so Doc did check in with us this morning by voice on the radio. And, Doc, we appreciate you being here. We appreciate the update.

And we just need to really praise the Lord for the answers to prayer that God has provided for Doc with reference to his multiple myeloma in the diagnosis and treatment. Doc did mention to me that the medical clinic in Fiji is under construction now. So that is also an answer to prayer.

So they're making some progress down there. Of course, those things never go perfectly smoothly, but the medical clinic in Fiji is proceeding. So, lots to be thankful for there.

All right, having informed the group, now that we're all assembled about that long-standing prayer request and need, I do want us to turn to our Bible study. And I'm going to ask Beck Alfa, Alfa 5 Yankee, if he would open in prayer for us this morning. Go ahead there, Beck.

Yeah, thank you. Let us come to the Lord in prayer. Dear Father God in heaven, As we start our new day, may we come to you with open minds to your guidance so that we receive clarity and thought of wisdom that we may need.

Please let us use that in our decision-making process and that we make choices that lead us in the direction of your Spirit. and meaningful outcomes, and that outcomes that we share can be with others. And we pray that others that do not know you, hear your name, and are filled with your Holy Spirit and believe in you.

We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen back thank you so much for that prayer really appreciate that all right we are in Psalm 54 today and I want to provide you with a little bit of background to this poem you'll notice if you look at the heading it says to the chief musician on Negan off that's kill all of David it says when the Zephyr came and said to all Does not David hide himself with eyes?

Well, the heading to the psalm gives us the setting and background to this psalm. And if we're to understand this psalm, we have to give attention to the historical setting that provided the framework for it. So this story is in 1 Samuel 23, verses 1 to 13.

And in 1 Samuel 23, 1 to 13, we have the story of the people of Goliath. So, Keliah was a town, all right? And the Philistines were assaulting the town of Keliah.

And God said to David, you know, go down there and beat back the Philistines and deliver the town of Keliah from them. And so, David went down with his men. and they fought against the Philistines and delivered the men of Keliah from the Philistines.

And so David was living in the town, and Saul heard he was there, and David prayed to the Lord and asked, you know, are the men of Goliath going to deliver me over to Saul, or are they going to defend me? And God said to him, they'll turn you over to Saul. And so even though David had done them good and delivered them and defended them, God made it clear they're not going to defend him.

So he took his soldiers and he left. And then after that, we have in that same chapter, 1 Samuel 23, in verses 14 to 18, the specific reference to the heading of our psalm, and that is the Ziphites. Now, David didn't do anything for the Ziphites like he did for the men of Peliah, but he didn't do anything against them either.

He was just, like, neutral. But they... called up King Saul on the phone and said, "Hey, we know where David's at.

Pop down here and we'll deliver him into your hands." And so that's what the Ziphites did, right? And they didn't do it just once, they did it twice. And so what we have is the men of Goliath returning evil for good, and we have the men of Ziph doing evil to David when he never did them any harm.

So that is the background to this psalm. And so time and again... People betrayed David.

People were disloyal to David. People were ungrateful to David after he had done them good and engaged in treachery against him. And what happened to David oftentimes happens to us.

Here we are doing people good. And when the time comes that we need some ministry or protection or for them to defend us, Not only are they nowhere to be found, but they wind up stabbing us in the back. Other times there's people that we've never done anything to, and yet they're actively slandering us and trying to take the side of those who are trying to harm us.

So that is a real difficult situation to be in where you feel the betrayal. And what you find is that people are happy for you to serve them and be loyal to them. But when the time comes to reciprocate, they're nowhere to be found.

We see Jesus doing this when he goes to Israel in his incarnation, right, in his first coming. He went about doing good. He healed people, cast out demons, taught the people the word of God.

And in his hour of need, they all said, oh, crucify him, crucify him, even though he had done them good. And so even the Roman government, which he never did any harm to, they went ahead and nailed him to a cross. So as it happened to Christ, so it happened to David, so it happens to us.

People that we served and sacrificed for will return evil for good. People to whom we have done no harm have little contact with will return out of just orneriness and depravity of heart, work at achieving our personal destruction. But the good news is that such traitors and persecutors, such ungrateful and disloyal people are known to God, and they're under his control, and he's able to frustrate all the evil they purpose and plan against us, and that's what happened to David.

We know that Saul never did get a hold of him, and all of those who sought to oppose him were frustrated in their efforts to tear him down. Jesus triumphed against those who opposed and betrayed him as well. In his resurrection from the grave and his ascension to heaven, to sit on the right hand of God to reign and rule.

So this is a psalm that we then would pray. when we've been betrayed by those who would have no reason to betray us. All right, so that's the background to Psalm 54.

I'll go ahead and read this Psalm, only seven verses. And let's start reading Psalm 54, verse 1. I'll be reading out of the King James.

It says in verse 1, Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength. Hear my prayer, O God, give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul.

They have not set God before them. Selah. Behold, God is my helper.

The Lord is with them that uphold my soul. He shall reward evil unto my enemies. Cut them off in thy truth.

I will freely sacrifice unto thee. I will praise thy name, O Lord, for it is good. All right.

Well, while you're thinking about that, you know, I think that one of the things that's really painful to us is betrayal. And, you know, we've all been betrayed by people. But we will never be betrayed by the Lord Jesus Christ.

And that's the comfort and the encouragement that we have. for us, God is front and center. He's right in front of us.

We are focused on Him. We are looking at Him. He's the central organizing principle of our life and all that we say and all that we do is related to Him.

The wicked, of course, think God doesn't even exist. Not only is he not in front of them, he's not even in their universe of awareness or in their frame of reference. And so you have God-centered people and you have people who God is not at all in their thoughts.

as it says, I think, in Psalm 9. So this is a question we need to ask ourselves. Where is God in my life?

Is he in front of me? Is he front and center? Is my focus on him and pleasing him and serving him?

Or is he absent from my thoughts? Now, the world will put all sorts of things into your mind to drive God out of your mind. You know, the counsel of the ungodly, the entertainment of the ungodly, the vanity and busyness that can come in and God gets pushed out.

So let's keep checking in with God and looking upon God regularly throughout the day and keep Him always in front of our minds. All right. Any other comments on this passage, please?

Go ahead. Growing their shoes. I think we've got our neighbors' car alarms turned out, so this is zeroing in on the first four, five of the topics, and that's our helper and our best ally, and this is Eddie.

He'll delimit us before our enemies, and then just cut them off in our pursuit, and it's true. That's a comforting thought to be told over. Amen.

Well said, Al. Yeah, verse 4, Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

And so he's looking around and he says, you know, I'm not by myself. God is there and he's going to help me. And he's also going to help those who help me.

So there were some upholding David's soul. And so that's what we see in verse 2 here. Hear my prayer, O God, give ear to the words of my mouth.

And so that's an acknowledgment on David's part that, number one, God doesn't have to listen. Number two, God can listen. And number three, God is gracious to listen.

And so to say those kinds of things as we pray is certainly an acknowledgment of those issues regarding who God is, who we are, and what our standing is in relationship to all of that. Okay, any other comments on the passage? Please come down to your call site.

Yeah, we'll see the same verse tomorrow in verse 1 of Psalm 55, KM5S. Will, thank you for looking ahead and pointing that out. Notice Psalm 54, verse 2, Hear my prayer, O God, give ear to the words of my mouth.

Notice Psalm 55, in verse 1, Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not thyself from my supplication. So there it is. Excellent point, Will.

And right in our passage, we have, All right, that was Tom, Whiskey Whiskey 7 Tango. Tom, go ahead. Go ahead.

Well, I was going back to verse 1 and then, uh, verse 1, I'm reading out of the answer to my turn. All right. He's asking God, he says, "Save me, O God, by your word and being judge and vindicate me." He doesn't have any friends.

He's asking God to use his strength. Yeah. Yeah, use his strength.

Yeah, turn out his strength. Strength and power. So he's going to God and laying himself before God, prostrating himself before God, asking him to forgive him.

Yeah. Lord, save me by thy name. Judge me by thy strength.

Hear my prayer, O God. Give ear to the words of my mouth. Now, Tom, thanks for that comment and observation on verse 1.

Okay, any other comments, please come now. Thank you. All right, well, we have a few minutes left, about three minutes.

I want to comment on verse 7. Verse 7 says, For he has delivered me out of all trouble. And my eye has seen his desire upon my enemies.

So David now is looking back over God's past deliverances. He is expecting that he will have a present deliverance. and that God sees his enemies, they're known to him, and God will deal with them.

And so when you look back over your life, I mean, most of us have lived a few decades. Has God delivered you out of all trouble in the past? Indeed, he has.

Had he not, you wouldn't be here with us. And so, you know, one of the grounds upon which we can have hope regarding our present circumstances is a reflection on the way in which God has dealt with us in our past circumstances. And as the psalmist says, truly the goodness of God endures continually.

Goodness and mercy have followed us all the days of our life. God has prepared a table before us. in the presence of our enemies.

He has anointed our head with oil. Our cup runs over. These are all signs of God's deliverance of us.

So here's David in a tough situation, feeling completely betrayed and wickedly attacked for no reason whatsoever. And what is he doing here? He's thinking about, well, You know, in the past, God has delivered me.

He's delivered me out of all my troubles. He's going to deliver me out of this batch of trouble as well. So understand that you're not in this by yourself.

Understand that God knows your needs. understand that God saw what they did and are doing and plan to do and understand that they're going to go down to defeat you know it says in Revelation 17 14 these shall make war with the Lamb but the Lamb shall overcome them for he is Lord of Lords and King of Kings and they that are with him are called and chosen and faithful so we're with Jesus Jesus is with us Any war against us is a war against Him, and anyone who wars against Jesus always goes down to defeat. And thus, anyone who wars against Christ's body, anyone who wars against Christ's bride, anyone who wars against Christ's people is also going down to defeat, because we are in union with Christ, and His triumph is our triumph.

So be encouraged. that when you've been betrayed by people, you just turn that over to the Lord. When you've been attacked for no reason by people, you turn that over to the Lord.

As Will said, ask Him to hear your prayer, spread out your situation before Him, commit it into His hands, remember his past deliverances and praise him for what he's going to do for you and then have that peace that passes all understanding because you cast your care upon him you know he cares for you and therein lies your peace going forward All right, any final comments before we close this study in the Bible and go to prayer?
