And so we are going to go right into our psalm. We are in Psalm 37. And Psalm 37 is a very interesting psalm.

You know, one of the great aggravations of the Christian life is to see wicked people in great prosperity and power and success, while righteous people are oppressed and vilified and murdered. And the disparity of justice there causes us frustration. and impatience, grief, a desire for revenge.

And it causes us to question the justice of God and His care for His people as we see the people of God persecuted and no consequences occurring to their persecutors. So we look at this and we become angry with the injustice of it all. And we wonder why.

We wonder how long is this going to go on. And we wonder why such a state of affairs is allowed to exist. And so we experience personally the wicked slandering our name, crashing our reputation, vilifying our characters.

And so as a result, we get really frustrated. And so all of this tempts us to wonder what God is doing. and when He's going to right the wrongs that are done to us by evil people.

And so we ask ourselves, how long is this injustice going to go on? Well, this psalm, Psalm 37, is designed to answer those questions and to deliver us from cynicism and despair. and from the sense that serving the Lord is an experience in futility.

You know, it's interesting to note that the people in Malachi's day made this statement. In Malachi 3.14, they said, quote, It is vain to serve God. What profit is it that we have kept his ordinances?

and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts. And the reason why they said that is they said, the passage goes on to say, now we call the proud happy. Yea, they that work wickedness are set up.

they that tempt God are delivered. And so the people of Malachi's day are just like David. They looked around.

They saw the prosperity of the wicked. They saw the difficulties that the righteous are in. And they thought, man, it must be useless to serve God.

Well, this Psalm 37 is designed to counteract this kind of thinking. And in this Psalm, God reassures us that we will have justice. We will have vindication.

We will have our righteousness. called out and vindicated while the wicked are going to be exposed and cut off and destroyed but that often happens later rather than sooner and so what are we supposed to do while we're waiting for the lord to act and to bring justice well we're to be patient We're to continue to serve God. We're to continue to trust him and his management of our lives and our circumstances.

So what Psalm 37 is saying, look, replace frustration with patience. Replace anxiety with trust. And replace discouragement with confidence.

And so this psalm is designed to encourage the people of God to patience, faith, and continued service to God in the face of the injustice that we see so often in front of us. So this very first verse really sets forth... this whole theme of the psalm when it says fret not thyself because of evildoers.

And we tend to fret ourselves because of the evil that's going on around us. So let's listen to the counsel of this psalm. And I'll read it.

It's a long psalm. It's 40 verses. I'll be reading out of the King James.

This is WB7MAX. And so with that introduction, let's read Psalm 32. Verse 1, "Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity; for they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord, and he shall give thee the desires of the earth. thine heart.

Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth thy righteousness as a light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him.

Fret not thyself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger and forsake wrath. Fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

For evil shall be cut off. But those that lead upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be.

Thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plot against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

The Lord shall laugh at him, for he seeth that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn out the sword, they have bent the bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slice the upright. Be a upright conversation.

Their sword shall enter into their own arms, and their bones shall be broken. A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.

The Lord knoweth the days of the upright, and shall hear them. shall be foretested. They shall not be ashamed in the evil turn of days.

And in the days of famine, they shall be satisfied. The wicked shall perish. The faith of the Lord shall give the child of lamb.

They shall consume and shall consume and shall consume when we can borrow it. When we can borrow it, the right to choose and the right to choose and the right to give He is ever merciful and living in his blood. Depart from evil and dwell forevermore.

The Lord mercy and judgement on this day. Today, after today, forever. The state of the wicked shall be cut off.

The righteous shall enter into the world. The righteous shall enter into the world. For at the mouth of the righteous is the truth.

The talk of the judge is the law. And his heart is that of God. And we can watch the righteous.

And the Lord will not leave him when he is judged. When he is judged. Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee.

We get our cut off, thou shalt see it. I have seen the wicked in great power, spreading himself like a green bay tree. green space, yes.

He passed away and he went on. Yeah, I saw him. He could not be found.

Mark the perfect man that behold the upright. The end of that man is he, his body. The transgressors shall be destroyed together.

the end of the wicked shall be gone. But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord. He is our strength in the time of trouble.

And the Lord shall help them and deliver them. He shall deliver them from the wicked and save them because they trust in Him. That is Psalm 37.

I'll be brief. That'd be 6 YSI. Verse 7 is something that I struggle with.

I think probably a lot of us do. where we see all of the stuff going on around us. I wonder why.

But it says, my version says, rest in the Lord. Another translation will say, be still. For me, a time to be still and wait patiently for him.

I fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out his schemes. And I, I, I really got to deal with this, and I just keep pleading to God. God for grace to be able to do what we're commanded here in his word W6YS yeah Dave I think we all share those exact same feelings and we are asking Lord how long are you going to let this injustice go on these wicked people flourish and prosper and prosper And you know, what God is saying to us is wait until the day of judgment.

And you know, it will be here sooner rather than later. And when we get there, we will see every wrong righted, every wicked person punished, every righteous person vindicated. And there will be justice.

And that's one reason, Steve, why there has to be a day of judgment. Because without that, justice would go unrequited and undealt with, and righteousness would go unrecognized and unrewarded. So, yes, patience, waiting on the Lord.

is something that's hard for us to do, and that's why we have Psalms like this. And it's saying to us, you've got to take a long-range view of these things. In the short term, yes, there's terrible injustice.

Maybe throughout our lifetimes there are terrible injustices. But you remember in Revelation chapter 6, the fifth seal, where the martyrs were under the altar, and they're crying out to God and saying, Lord, how long before you take vengeance on those who killed us? And the Lord says, just wait a little while.

There's some more injustice yet to be done, but in due time I will deal with that. And, of course, we see that when Jesus returns, In Revelation 19, that's all taken care of. So, Steve, we share your pain, and we are all learning patience together.

Great comment, Steve. Jeff, AK6OK, I think you had a comment. Please go ahead.

Yeah, thanks, Max. This is a great psalm of contrast, if you think about it. It says, here's what is good and here's what's not.

This is great for a nonbeliever to read, and it kind of lays it out in 40 verses, whatever the number is there. and makes it pretty easy to understand that evil is not good, and being on the side of the Lord is good. Over.

Yeah, amen. That's right. And, you know, the unsaved would do well to reflect on the fact that justice is coming.

And a lot of times they think they've gotten away with it because they didn't get caught, you know, or they were known to have done it, but there weren't any consequences. We see a lot of wickedness, for example, in our political system. And it seems like there's this two-tiered justice system where, you know, the little guy, he goes to jail if he commits perjury.

But, you know, the guy that has a lot of power and connections... In prominence, he doesn't get anything for perjury. And you can fill in the blank with every other kind of crime.

But what God is promising here is that they didn't get away with it. You know, I recall we had a discussion a couple of days ago about things getting stolen. and that the thief was never caught and the goods were never recovered.

And the conclusion that was drawn is God knows who took that stuff, and God will deal with that person. And that's exactly what's being said in this psalm as well. So, yeah, great contrast here.

You know, this psalm really breaks down into two sections. We have the counsel given to believers while waiting, in verses 1 to 8, and then we have the promise given to believers that there will be justice in verses 9 to 40. So while we're waiting for justice, what are we supposed to be doing?

Well, Steve brought out one of those verses. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Fret not yourself because of Him who prospers in the way.

So that's the counsel given to believers while waiting for justice. And the unbelievers do well to recognize the threats that are in this passage. And God is very clear about what he's going to do with the wicked.

Verse 20, but the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of land. They shall consume in the smoke, they shall consume away. So, Jeff, thanks for pointing out that this is a psalm of contrast.

Yeah, I just would like to kind of, I know I'm probably going down quite a ways here, but verse 23 and 24 says, The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he delights in his way. Yeah, Eric, really well said. And, you know, this terminology, the right hand of the Lord or the hand of the Lord, occurs constantly in the scriptures.

And, you know, it's a metaphor for the fact that God is going to have the arm of his strength and the arm of his skill and the arm of his protection. Right. used for our benefit and in our circumstance and for our situation.

You know, when you think about your right hand, for those of us who are right-handed, I know we've got some lefties on the net here, and, you know, all credit to the left hand as well if that's who you are, but most of us are right-handed. And the right hand is the hand of skill, it's the hand of strength, it's the hand we use for protection. It's, if you will, our best hand.

And what God is saying here is, I'm going to give you the best of my strength and my skill and my protection. in your situation. And so, yeah, this imagery of the right hand of the Lord in Isaiah 41.10 and also in our passage here in Psalm 37 and verse 24, thank you for bringing that out, Eric, and what an encouragement it is to know that God is using his strength in his skill for our protection and our preservation.

And today, our committee meets with the attorneys to discuss fees and a few other things regarding the lawsuit for number three. And if you recall over a year ago or so, we prayed that we would find somebody that would And, you know, Beck, sometimes we do get justice in this life through the court system. Sometimes we don't.

But justice will be served one way or the other. We will either get justice in this life or in the next, but we will get it. And what a comfort that is to know that the wicked make it away with their wickedness for a time, But that time will soon come to an end because no one escapes the justice of God, either through temporal means, such as the civil authority or maybe church discipline, or maybe the discipline of children in the home that brings justice as well, or, you know, on the day of judgment.

So I'm glad to hear that's going forward. Thanks for telling us about that, Beck, and we'll certainly be praying that that works out for you guys. All right, Kevin, KB7 ZXN, you had a comment.

Please come down. Kevin Caron: KB7 ZXN, good morning and thank you. Yeah, boy, we're wishing you the best back there with that.

I know you guys have had your challenges there. Well, and I'm just going to come back a little bit. some wonderful, important principles here.

And Steve, I think, really touched on it there. One of the primary principles is waiting on the Lord. But also, how can we...

trust and wait. One of the interesting components of this psalm, maybe you mentioned it and I missed it, Max, this is another acrostic psalm where each letter of the Hebrew alphabet, as you go through the alphabet, begins the next line of thought here in the text. And I think this is significant in that it just is a way for them to really reflect and remember and recite these Psalms and seeing them.

But also, it just helps reinforce, I think, the important principles herein. and we can and we can certainly wait on the Lord because as we see in verses I think 8 through 11 here it's really what Jesus quoted in Matthew 5:5 our blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth you know ultimately all scores will be settled and as you point out max no one's going to be getting away with anything in the long run you know we see in this world it seems like that people can lie and cheat and steal and and be corrupt with impunity and uh uh it is the the good to silence those that are faithfully serving god that suffer that are persecuted that uh as you point out, sometimes imprisoned and unjustly accused and victimized. But the strength is in that meekness.

Meekness does not mean weakness. Meekness is simply maintaining that self-control, by the strength of God, the spirit of God within them. And I also, I think you pointed to this too a little bit, but this really does have some eschological implications to it, this whole principle of this because of that.

And we see that both here for Israel and past events where, you know, God promised the land of Canaan and they came in and possessed that. Two... future events.

You pointed to Revelation I think 19 there. We see this also in the promise of Romans 11, you know, verse 26. And so there are some definite etiological uh uh implications in this text but we can trust in this and i love the perspective that the psalmist gives us here too and that we can also trust in in these things because we know the the the uh the corruption is limited these guys seem like they're they're um THEIR WICKEDNESS IS JUST RULING WITH IMPUNITY, BUT IT'S VERY TEMPORARY.

AS THE GRASS GROWS, AS WE HAVE THE VIVID SCENE NOW OF THESE WILDFIRES, MANY OF THESE THROUGH THE GRASSLANDS OF EASTERN OREGON, VAST FIELDS OF GRASS JUST GOING UP IN FLAMES AND THROUGH One day they're here, the next day they're not. And that's going to be the way with the wicked. Judgment will come, and all scores will be settled justly by our Lord.

KB 7, is that acceptable? Yeah, thank you for that perspective. Yes, the evil that the wicked do is temporary and it is limited.

Appreciate you pointing out verse 11 there, Kevin. and makes you inherit the earth. And that is exactly as you said is echoed in Matthew chapter 5 and verse 5 where Jesus in the Beatitudes quotes this.

And so, yes, Kevin brought out that this passage has eschatological perspective. And that is it looks forward to the new heavens and the new earth when we will inherit the kingdom in all of its fullness, all of its justice, all of its righteousness that God has provided for us. And so God is saying to Israel, she'll have the land and she'll receive her promises.

And to the people of God, that they will have the land and they will receive the promises ultimately in that final state. So, Kevin, thank you for bringing out those passages and those perspectives. All right.

Yeah, in the NASB in Versa 3, it says, trust in the Lord and do good dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness for a footnote says feed on his faithfulness which kind of goes along with verse 7 being patient and waiting for an impatiently I have problems being a patient patient in the situation that I'm in I want things to move on faster Yeah, copy that. Good comment there, Will. Appreciate that on verse 3.

Yep. Yeah, the King James says, "Trust in the Lord and do good, so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed." It could also be, as Will said, cultivate the land. and God will take care of you.

And the idea there is that, you know, while you're waiting on justice, what are you supposed to be doing? Well, do your work, you know. Go to work, earn a living, you know, feed your family, carry on with life.

Don't sit there and stew and do nothing because the wicked are doing evil. Carry on with your responsibilities. You know, I'd like to point out the verbs that are used here in Psalm 37.

Verse 1, threaten not. Verse 3, trust in the Lord. Verse 4, delight thyself in the Lord.

Verse 5, commit thy way to the Lord. Verse 7, rest in the Lord. Verse 8, "cease from anger." These are all commands to take action or not take action, depending upon what the command is.

And the point is, is that while we're waiting for justice, it's an active waiting. It's a waiting that is regulated by the commands of the Word of God. So we're not to be fretting.

We are to be trusting and delighting and committing and resting. And we're to cease from anger. So we're not to fret.

We're not to be angry. We're just to trust in the Lord, delight yourself in the Lord, commit your way to the Lord, rest in the Lord. And, you know, so this is an active waiting.

And that's, I think, one of the things Will was trying to bring out here is that we've got things to do. while injustice is winning the day in the short term. And that is keep up a good attitude, keep up a good focus, and don't go where we don't belong.

And that is a place of anger and constant worry and anxiety. Will, thank you for bringing out that comment. All right, any other comments, please come now.

Thank you for that. Mark was just saying this word, wait, is the Hebrew word kabar, and it conveys the idea of twisting strands together. And so the idea here is that what are we doing while we're waiting?

While we're going back and we're thinking about waiting, all of the times in the past where God was there for us, where God helped us, where God delivered us, where God gave us justice. And as we sit there, we take the strands of memory, both from our personal experience and from the Scripture, and we wind them together in our thoughts. And we say, okay, God was here for us at this time, and God was there for David at that time.

And God protected Isaiah at this time. And then, you know, when my wife was going through a circumstance, God was there for her. And so we're taking all these memories and we're winding them together.

And what that does is it creates a really strong rope, okay? And so the way we gain strength while we're waiting is by wrapping all the memories together that we have of God's past dealings, both in our life and in the life of biblical characters. And that gives us something strong to cling to while we're waiting.

It's a rope of hope, if you will. that we wrap our hand around, we wrap our heart around, and it gives us strength and patience and hope while we're waiting for justice in this situation that we are in. So, Mark, great comment there.

So he's just saying to fret not, trust in, delight thyself, commit thy way, rest in the Lord, cease to anger. Those are all strands. that we wind together while we're waiting for God's justice.

Mark, thank you for that. There's lots in Israel's history for them to look back on and to draw hope from. Roger, W7VZL, come forward.

Yes, I was just thinking of the stewardship emphasis in the latter part of this psalm. and verse 21 takes the the negative of course in the area of stewardship the wicked borrow he borrows and does not pay back but the righteous is gracious and give this is kind of uh similar to what I was hearing from Pat, which I've not been in the loop at all until that reveal. And then verse 26 reminded me of Deuteronomy 28, verse 12, that all day long he is gracious and lends.

So the stewardship emphasis is all built upon God's graciousness in this promise in Deuteronomy. The Lord will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend, and you shall give to many nations, and you shall not borrow.

So when God, when he opens up the storehouse, his people, in fact, they know it, actually, for being lepers. And there is quite a history of God's people in the area of being blessed to be able to lend. Dr.

Emancius. Yeah, Roger, well said. Before I comment, and I would like to acknowledge Mike, W7TWO.

Mike, we've seen you there for a while on the Utah SDR. Thanks for being with us. All right, back to Roger's comment.

Yes, you know, our behavior in this world and in this life needs to echo God's behavior. Is God generous? Is God giving?

Does God bless? Absolutely He does. And so we need to echo that in our lives.

We need to be imitators of God as dear children. And that means that we, even though we're surrounded by lots of injustice and greediness and selfishness, we don't fall into that ourselves. We continue to be like God in that we are generous, we're kind, we're compassionate.

We see needs and we meet those needs. And so twice it says here, the righteous shows mercy and gives in verse 21. Verse 21.

In verse 26, he's ever merciful and limp. So the idea there is that God gives us resources, and those resources certainly are to be used to meet our own needs first. But then, if we're able, we need to meet the needs of those around us.

And so in Christianity, there's an ethic of giving. And there's an ethic of showing compassion on others and striving to meet their needs. You know, John 3, 16 says, God so loved the world that he gave.

And so Christians are givers because our God is a giver. And so unlike the wicked... who are greedy and selfish and cruel and extract out of the poor.

We're just the opposite of that because our God is the opposite of that. And, you know, when you live by Christian principles, God blesses and multiplies. And if you have some excess as a result of that, then be sure to use that to bring some blessing into the lives of others.

This wasn't just meant for a particular point in time. This is for us today. And so many times as our walk, well, as our walk as believers, we know and we grow to understand that our faith is a daily walk.

These principles that God reveals to us, in his word are for us to apply and live daily. They're not just something to look back on or maybe look back on a point in our life where, okay, there's a time where I exercised faith. Well, those are good to have, but we are called daily to apply these principles.

And these verbs are very important verbs that we should take to heart on our daily walk with the Lord. KB 7 is that example. Yeah, you know, faith is not something we do once and forget about.

Faith is an ongoing exercise of trust. And it's the nature of the Christian life that we don't do something just once and then forget about it. I mean...

There are certain ordinances like baptism that we do once, and we're not to repeat those again. There's others like the Lord's Supper we're to do over and over again. Well, it's the same way with we have to renew our trust every day.

We have to renew our delight in the Lord every day. We have to renew our faith in the Lord every day. So, yeah, Kevin, thanks for pointing out the fact that this waiting is an act of waiting.

It's a constant reapplication of the promises of God to our circumstance and our situation. All right, our time is gone. I just want to point out the summary passages of this psalm.

Notice verse 35. I've seen the wicked in great power and spreading himself like a green bay tree, yet he passed away. and lo he was not yea I saw him but he could not be found mark the perfect man and behold the upright for the end of that man is peace verse 38 the transgressors shall be destroyed together the end of the week but the righteous salvation of the righteous is of the Lord and he is their strength in time of trouble so just this contrast between the outcome of the wicked and the outcome of the righteous yeah in the meantime he's like a green Bay tree and we're all grass but soon he'll be turned into firewood and we will flourish so be encouraged let's take a long-range view of justice and wait on the Lord, and he will bring it to pass.

You know, the world shouts into their ears with social media and public school and all sorts of corrupting influences and boy, do they ever need to read the word of God and meditate on that and let that be the voice that speaks in their minds rather than the voice of... of the common cultural consensus.

So what a great passage. And, yeah, they can expect the power of God more through the word of God in their lives. And, boy, today they need that.

You know, the thing about him, Jeff, is he's 85 years old. And I'm thinking, how much longer is he going to live in these lies and not be prepared to face either civil justice or justice? eternal justice.

You know, the arrogance and the deceit that was there is just breathtaking. And, you know, he's been caught in perjury before Congress by Rand Paul several times. And it's like, why isn't this guy getting charged?

I don't know, but I hope justice does come over. And I do too, and it makes all of us Christians wonder God, when you're going to do something about this, I know this comes up a lot in our minds. And not just him, but just look at Congress right now.

Just the whole thing is a massive plea in our state of California here. Yeah, yeah, politicians are going to have a lot to answer for. And, you know, as we look on the injustice that they perpetrated, the wickedness that they do, you know, we say, Lord, how long?

And he says, well, just wait a little while. I will deal with them in due time. And you know what's amazing to me is how God uses the actions of the wicked to accomplish his purposes in spite of themselves.

And, of course, the classic example of that is Satan inciting God you know, his people put Jesus on the cross. And what he thought was his greatest victory was actually his greatest defeat. And, you know, these guys think they're getting victory, but really all they're doing is setting themselves up for their own defeat.

Very true. Good thing for us to remember. Boy, you want to stay on the right side of the wall.

All right, Max. And by the way, if you're going to want some good entertainment, get on YouTube this morning and look up the squirrel at the Detroit game last night. There was a squirrel ran loose in on the baseball field for probably 45 minutes.

ran all over the field while the game was going on, total distractions, and by me it took about 25 guys to go get that thing rounded up over. That's really funny. You know, Jeff, one time I was at a shooting range, you know, and we're out there blasting away at the targets, and in a doe, a deer came walking out, walked right across in front of all the targets.

And, of course, we held fire, right? And this silly thing is out there eating and whatnot. And finally we had to chase the stupid thing off.

It was insane. It's like, is this deer suicidal or what? You know what?

What's so funny about this, all the cameras were focused on the squirrel. And every chance he had to run off, nope, he made a U-turn and ran right out in the middle of the field. He was getting fed by the guys that are chewing on sunflower seeds.

It's too good. Yeah, that's hilarious. Well, God provided some entertainment.
