All right, we are going to get started with our Bible study. This is WB7MAX, Net Control for the West Coast Bible Study. We're in Job chapter 30 and 31.
And we saw that Job in chapter 29 was talking about how he used to be before these calamities came upon him. And he talked about the respect and honor he had in the community he was in. He talked about the ministries that he engaged in, the benevolence that he showed, the upright conduct that he had.
And now in chapter 30, he contrasts his present position with his previous position. You know, it's kind of like Roger was mentioning yesterday. He looks around at those young guys in the gym, right?
And he looks at himself and he's saying, "That's who I used to be. You know, young and strong and full of vim and vigor. And now we're old men." And so Job is saying, "This is who I used to be.
someone who was highly esteemed as Kevin brought out he was probably a king and very wealthy and respected and very benevolent to all of those around him and now in chapter 30 he's talking about how he's been wiped out and how he's His possessions have been decimated. His health has been decimated. His reputation has been decimated.
And then in chapter 31, which is his final argument, and he talks about his character. And he basically says, this is who I am. This is what I have done, and this is what I have not done.
And so this brings a conclusion to these three cycles of discussion with Eliphaz, Zophar, and Bildad. We've looked at that from Chapter 4 all the way up to Chapter 31. It's been quite the journey.
and tomorrow, God willing, we'll look at the new perspective of Elohim. The fourth individual shows up on the scene, and he has a different answer for Job than this repetitive false accusation that Eliphaz, Zophar, and Bildad have. have lodged against him.
So it's going to be interesting and exciting to see what Elihu has to say. And then, of course, God shows up. And we're going to hear a long discourse from God in chapters 38 through 41.
So... It's going to be interesting to see how this whole thing comes to a conclusion. But before we get started with our Bible reading today, we want to open in prayer.
And so, Jerry, 8E7ER, could you open in prayer for us today, please? And let us pray. Our Father in heaven, we give you thanks for another day.
We begin with a letter of praise to you. giving thanks for the many blessings we receive. Please open our hearts and minds for what we hear and read today, and help us fill the life-saving day.
For those that help obtain your troops today, give us faith, Travis. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Our Lord and Savior.
Amen. Amen, Jerry. Thank you so much for that prayer.
May the Lord be pleased to grant each of those requests. All right, so we're going to start out our reading with Beck Alfalfa, 5 Yankee. Beck's going to be reading for us Job chapter 30.
And so, Beck, please go ahead. And then when Beck finishes, we'll switch right over to Jeff, AK6OK, and he'll be reading chapter 31. So you two gentlemen go ahead.
Start out, Beck. Sure, thank you, Pastor Max. Good morning, everybody.
This is about Job's wealth and now poverty. But now they mock at me, men younger than I, whose fathers I disdain to put with the dogs of my flock. Indeed, that profit is the strength of their hands to me.
Their vigor has perished. They are gone from want and famine, fleeing late to the wilderness desolate and waste. Who plucked mallow by the bushes and blue-tree roots for their food?
They were driven out from among men. They shouted at them as a thief. Stand by for a second.
Sorry about that. I had to clear my throat. Verse 6.
They had to live in the clefts of the valleys... In the caves of the earth and rocks, among the bushes they braid, under the nettles they nestle. They were sons of fools, yes, sons of vile men, they were scourged from the land.
They were scourged from the land. And now I am their taunting song, yes, I am their byword. They abhor me, they keep far from me, they do not hesitate to spit in my face.
because he has loosed my bowstring and afflicted me they have cast off the restraint before me at my right hand the rabble arises they push away my feet and they raise against me their ways of destruction they break up my path they promote my calamity they have no helper They come as flood breakers under the ruinous storm. They roll along. Terrors are turned up upon me.
They pursue my honor as the wind, and my prosperity has passed like a cloud. And now my soul is poured out because of my plight. The days of the affliction take hold of me.
My bones are pierced in me at night, and my gnarly pains take no rest. By great force my garment is disfigured. It binds me about as the collar of my coat.
He has cast me into the mire, and I have become like dust in an absence. I cry out to you, but you do not answer me. I stand up, and you regard me.
But you have become cruel to me. With the strength of your hand, you oppose me. You lift me up in the wind and cause me to ride on it.
You spoil my success. For I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all the living. Surely he would not stretch out his hand against a heap of woods, if they cry out when he destroys it.
Have I not wept for him who was in trouble? Has not my soul grieved for the poor? But when I looked for good, evil came to me.
And when I waited for the light, then came darkness. Our heart is in turmoil and I cannot rest. Days of affliction confront me.
I go about mourning, but not in the sun. I stand up in the assembly and cry out for help. I am brother of jackals and a companion of ostriches.
My skin grows black and falls from me. My bones burn with fever. My heart is turned to mourning and my foot to the voice of those who weep.
Auf, auf, auf. 5 Yankee, over to you, Jeff Ace. Keetik doke.
Okay, and good morning, everybody. Here we go with chapter 31, Job's final protest of innocence. I made a covenant.
This is a NLT, by the way. I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at young women for what is God's above chosen for us, and what is our inheritance from the Almighty on high. Isn't it calamity for the wicked and misfortune for those who do evil?
Doesn't he see everything I do and every step I take? Have I lied to anyone or deceived anyone? Let God weigh me on the scales of justice, for he knows my integrity.
If I have strayed from his pathway, or if my heart has lusted for what my eyes have seen or if I'm guilty of any other sin, then let someone else eat the crops I've planted. Let all that I've planted be uprooted. If my heart has been seduced by a woman or if I have lusted with my neighbor's wife, then let my wife serve another man.
Let other men sleep with her. For lust is a shameful sin, a crime that should be punished. It is a fire that burns all the way to hell.
It would wipe out everything I own. If I'd been unfair to my male and female servants when they brought their complaints to me, how could I face God? What could I say when he questioned me?
For God has created both me and my servants. He created us both in the world. Have I refused to help the poor or crush the hopes of widows?
Have I been stingy with my food and refused to share it with orphans? No, from childhood I've cared for orphans like a father. All my life I've cared for widows.
Whenever I saw the homeless without clothes and the needy with nothing to wear, did they not praise me for providing wool clothing to keep them warm? If I raise my hand against an orphan, knowing that judges would take my side, then let my shoulder be wrenched out of place. Let my arm be torn from its socket.
That would be better than facing God's judgment. For if the majesty of God opposes me, what hope is there? Have I put my trust in money or felt secure because of my gold?
Have I gloated about my wealth, all that I own? Have I looked at the sun shining in the skies or the moon walking down its silver pathway and secretly enticed in my heart to throw kisses at them in worship? If so, I should be punished by the judges.
for it would mean I had denied the God of heaven. Have I ever rejoiced when disaster struck my enemies or become excited when harm came their way? No, I have never sinned by cursing anyone or by asking for revenge.
My servants have never said, He let others go hungry. I have never turned away from a stranger, but have opened my doors to everyone. Have I tried to hide my sin like other people do, concealing my guilt and my heart?
Have I feared the crowd or contempt of the masses so that I kept quiet and stayed indoors? If only someone would listen to me. Look, I will sign my name to my defense.
Let the Almighty answer me. Let my accuser write out the charges against me. I would face the accusation proudly, and I would wear it like a crown.
For I would tell him exactly what I've done. I would come before him like a prince. If my land accuses me and all its furrows cry out together, or if I have stolen its crops or murdered its owners, then let thistle grow on that land instead of wheat and weeds instead of barley.
Job, words are ended. Back to you, Max. Man, that's a mouthful.
Yeah, Jeff, AK6OK and Beck, Alpha 5 Yankee, thank you both for those excellent readings. Really appreciate that. All right, well, these are quite the statements.
Any comments on Job chapter 30 or 31, please come now with your call sign. ZXN. Kevin, KB7ZXN, please go ahead.
KB7ZXN, good morning. I'll get things rolling here. Well, yeah, with 30, we see probably one of the most dramatic contrasts, well, in this book.
certainly, maybe in the Bible except for maybe one other and in that we see in Job's reflection in 29 him reflecting on his life as it was and the dignity that he had the reverence that others had toward him the recognition of his wise and fair and sound judgment, his graciousness to others, and all that it led to. You know, that there was, you know, they would wait upon his words like spring rain. They would, the women would be playing harps.
Those in need and vulnerable people. were taken care of and considered. And now, the contrast is, as you go through many of the same categories, it's mockery and disdain toward Job.
And here we see the same person who once was a glorified, dignified, reverented king, now being mocked and ridiculed. And not only is the top the bottom and the bottom the top, now everything is upside down, the effect that it has. You know, this is his identity now.
And he's recognizing that all that he was, and he still is internally, now, socially and communally, his identity is identified. as the worst of the worst. And those very young people that used to praise Him now sing mocking songs about Him.
And those that—and what really hurts is even the lowest of the lowest now are kicking dirt in His face, so to speak, socially. This has real consequences. He is hurt by this, as you could understand.
If you have done your best and you've lived right and you know that your heart has been faithful to God, And yet everyone around you sees you in the worst possible light. That causes deep pain. And I think part of the pain that we see here toward the end of this chapter is the silence of God.
He still doesn't lose faith, but it added to all this upside-down identity of him now from everyone around him. God is still silent, and we see that reflected here in this text as well. KB7, Zedek Sin.
Yeah, Kevin, good analysis. Before I comment, Danette would like to recognize Brian, KK7VIP, and also Carol, KK7TPOC, both there on Utah. Thank you for being with us this morning.
All right, back to Kevin's comment. Kevin, great analysis of the passage. I really liked what you said when you said everything is upside down.
What an accurate characterization. the situation here but job used to be on the top now he's on the bottom used to be respected by everyone now he's treated with contempt by even the most contemptible of people in society and we see that in chapter 30 in verses 1 through 9 where he talks about the character the maturity the wisdom the experience of his critics And he's saying, even the worst of the worst now think they're superior to me. And, you know, this is kind of what we call piling on, you know.
It's like when someone is down, everybody gathers around and kicks them. And so, yeah, he's experiencing a lot of pain. And, you know, he's waiting on someone, namely God, to show up and vindicate him.
and yet as as you said Kevin you know he's facing the silence and so we see in chapter 31 in verse 35 he says oh that one would hear me behold my desire is that the Almighty would answer me and then my adversary had written a book surely I would take it upon my shoulder bind it as the crown to me I would declare unto him the number of my steps as a prince would I go near unto him. And so he's saying, I'm ready to defend myself. Here is my defense.
This is who I am. This is how I behave. And yet it seems like his words fall on deaf ears.
Nobody believes him. Everybody's taking up the lies and the slander and repeating them and intensifying them. And this is a cry of anguish for justice, because gross injustice is being done.
There is a complete rejection of the true facts about Job as to his history, character, conduct, reputation. And just because something bad has happened to him, it's like, "Oh, now we'll just forget who this guy has been for the last, you know, 80 or 100 years, or however old he is." and let's pretend like he's a completely different person because something bad happened to him. So, Kevin, good analysis.
Thank you for that. All right, any other comments on the passage, please come now. Roger, please go ahead.
Yeah, I think this is probably the roughest way to go that the devil did his best on this turning against you or seeing you in this state of affairs from before. We can probably suffer better if we're in a different setting, but it's the same setting And the people that did respect him now are saying, this is terrible. The comparison is similar to Paul as he deals with the Corinthian church.
In chapter 4 of 1 Corinthians, we see, Paul writing, he says, "For I think God has exhibited us apostles last of all as men condemned to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to the world." and to men. We are fools for Christ's sake, for you are prudent in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong." So here we are talking about the Christians in Corinth, the church he founded.
But now they are turning against him, so to speak. "You are distinguished but we are without honor. There we go.
But to this present hour, we are both hungry and thirsty and are poorly clothed and are roughly treated and are homeless. Verse 12. And we toil, working with our own hands, when we are reviled, we bless, When we are persecuted, we endure.
When we are slandered, we try to conciliate. We have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now. I wonder if Paul had read Job.
I'm sure he had. Over. Yeah, and what a perfect illustration, Roger, of exactly what Job is experiencing here.
As Kevin said, everything's upside down with Paul and the Corinthians. They think they are superior to him, the apostle of the Lord Jesus. They think they're wiser than him.
They think they're more honorable than him. And they treat him with contempt like dirt under their feet or the refuse that you would wash off a plate after dinner. And of course, not only did Job experience this inversion, where those who should have respected him were mocking him, not only did Paul experience this inversion, where those who should have respected him were treating him with contempt, The supreme example of that is our Lord Jesus Christ and how that He was the perfect man.
And everyone should have been falling before Him, giving Him honor, listening to His words, pointing to Him as the example to follow. you know all the things that happened to job there and joke chapter 29 all of those should have been applied to the Lord Jesus and yet he was treated like a common criminal he was whipped he was crucified he was utterly rejected and changed Job talks about being spit on here. And so, yes, oftentimes the judgment of the world is the exact opposite of what it ought to be because of the foolishness and the pride and the self-importance that people assign to themselves while treating those who are truly honorable with contempt.
So, Roger, thank you for pointing out that parallel passage that expresses what, you know, the leaders of the people of God often experience. You know, also, Roger, we can see this the way children treat their parents with contempt, right? Or grandchildren treat their grandparents where, you know, instead of following the fifth commandment, which is honor your father and mother, they trample all over their father and mother with all sorts of false accusations and wicked slanders.
So this thing that Job is experiencing, I think many of us have probably experienced it ourselves. And when we do, where is our appeal? We're not going to get justice from people.
Paul wasn't getting justice from the Corinthians. Job wasn't getting justice from Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar. And Jesus certainly didn't get justice from the Sanhedrin.
and sometimes even not from his own apostles. We get our justice from God, and we have to ultimately, finally appeal to him. Lord, you know.
And so I'm casting my case into your lap, looking to you for judgment. And as I said previously, one of my favorite verses there is in Romans chapter 2. In the early verses there where it says, The judgment of God is according to truth.
Sadly, the judgment of people is very seldom according to truth because either they don't have all the facts, They don't care about the facts, or they have some nefarious agenda other than achieving justice in the situation. Roger, great comment and great parallel passage. Thank you for that.
All right, other comments, please come now. Is that a K6? It's a K6, okay, go ahead.
wonderful text and I just just spot on and and max I really appreciate you pointing out what what we see or hear when we look at Christ you know one of the things as you read God's Word and and throughout the Old Testament is is we we soon realize every page there is Christ being talked about or represented or pointed to. It's for our benefit that we would know who Jesus, our Savior, is. And here we see a typology that's just impossible to miss.
You know, here, like I said, I believe, you know, job or job ab the king is now uh the one that was highly revered and and loved and and now being mocked and attacked and and and despised as the worst of the worst but what did we see and with our lord and savior as he connected his ministry so many times he was revered everyone looked forward to the coming of the messiah but when they came and and now at the end he finds himself on a cross totally being rejected by those he loved and came to save and mocked into the nth degree. And it is heartbreaking. But, you know, one of the considerations of this too is, you know, Lucifer Satan is gonna go after he goes after the royalty here he went after the most exalted there is no man like Job even God says in his own words and yet This is who Satan goes after.
And but one of the things, too, as we recognize as we are children of the king of kings, the king of kings, is that we are, in a sense, royalty, too. Peter admonishes us. We are of a royal priesthood.
And so, likewise, we're going to be attacked. We're going to suffer. And the suffering church that we have talked about, the suffering of the church, is because of those same attacks.
But one of the wonderful things as we move forward here, as dark as the attacks of Satan, as dark as the discouragement can be in the reality of the lost. One of the promises of our Lord is, as you point out, judgment of God is just. and things will be made right once again.
And the glory of God will be known to us like never before. And, you know, one of the great hopes of Christ's return is just that very thing that we know. that Jesus, the Lord of Lords, and the King of Kings, make all things right.
Those who attacked him, those who despised him, those who diminished him in any way, will for eternally ever regret, lest they repent and turn away from their sins. but I'll comment on chapter 31 a little bit but that's a good comment too you had too on chapter 31 and that has some significance as well there Jeff KB7 is that extent yeah thank you for that Kevin and you know a lot of the Christian life is about patience You know, they that wait on the Lord will renew their strength. And, you know, Job is having to be patient, waiting on God to show up and to vindicate him.
That is mainly going to happen on the day of judgment. It happens sometimes in this life. I have seen it happen in certain circumstances.
But it's not very often that those who falsely accuse turn around and repent and offer... asked for forgiveness. And of course that's ultimately what did happen in the life of Job when God showed up and spoke and declared His mind on this matter and really told Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar that they had done evil and spoken evil of God.
So anyway, we're going to have that vindication. Did Jesus have His vindication? He absolutely did.
Did Paul have his vindication? He absolutely did. And Job did as well, and we shall also.
But we have to be patient. And the problem is while we're waiting for vindication and having to endure these slanders, we tend to run out of hope. We tend to get cynical and bitter.
And we tend to think, well, there's no justice now, so there's not going to be any justice ever. We can't think that way. The Bible is full of examples that those who wait on the Lord ultimately find their vindication not only in time but also in eternity.
And that is the patience of the saints. you know there's a passage there in Revelation chapter 1 let me just turn to that for a second John of course has been exiled to the Isle of Patmos and he says in John in Revelation 1 in verse 9 he says I John who also in your brother and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. So here is a fine apostle.
He's preaching the word of God. He's giving testimony of the saving faith of Jesus. What's the result?
He's in tribulation. And he's having to be patient in the midst of that tribulation, waiting on God to bring him through it, to bring him out of it, and to vindicate him with reference to it. And so we have to recognize that this is the normal course of action in the Christian life, is that you're going to be treated with injustice.
People are going to falsely accuse you. Folks are going to pile on, and what you have to do is keep your eyes focused on Jesus. He's our compass.
He's our lighthouse. He is our North Star. He's the sixth point of reference.
by which we navigate through this ocean of negative providences and false accusations and people turning against us without a cause. And so we just patiently endure. You know, I like what John says there about I'm your companion in the patience.
of Jesus Christ. So don't give up hope. Continue to cling to Christ.
Continue to follow him. Continue to do the right thing. Even though your reputation is trash in the eyes of men, it isn't in the eyes of God.
And he says, well done, good and faithful servant, while everybody else is thrown off. So that perspective from the book of Job helps us to navigate through the set pool of false accusations and people turning against us and betraying us, dabbing us in the back, all those things. We just keep focused on Jesus.
We just keep going forward. Alright, WB7MX here looking for any final comments on our passage. Please come now.
AK6OK with one more. Jeff, AK6OK, please go ahead. You know, one thing I don't see in all of these chapters is anybody coming to his rescue.
Not a single brother comes back to him and says, "No, this is a righteous man." Yeah, well, we're going to see that Elihu does that. And he vindicates Job to a certain degree. But basically, when we get in the next chapter, 32 through 37, Elihu says two things, basically, right?
He says, whatever the reason God senses affliction, it's not Job's place to question God, demand of God an answer, or to accuse him of injustice. He just simply needs to trust God, even though he doesn't understand God. So he has a word for Job, and it isn't, Job, you're a terrible sinner.
It's, Job, the way you are reacting could be improved. Because Job is, at times, is saying, you know, is God just or not? And I need some justice here.
And Elihu is saying, okay, that will come in due time. In the meantime, humility befits you, trust befits you, and faith in God befits you, even though you don't have what you need, which is an explanation, number one, and justice, number two. And then the second thing that Elihu says is that God's purpose and affliction is to do men good.
It's to save them and enlighten them. And really, he gives an extended expression of Romans 8, 28, right, which is, you know, God works all things together for good to those who love the Lord. And so he really kind of hammers Eliphaz, Zophar, and Bildad for not providing an adequate answer to Job.
And so he does have some partial vindication from Elihu. And, of course, then when God shows up, we see his assessment of the whole thing in chapter 41. Job is finally defended.
But here's the deal, Jeff. It takes time to get to that destination. And during that time, we have to trust and not lean on our own understanding.
Back to you there, Jeff. Go ahead. Yes, certainly understand.
We'll read that in the coming chapters. Great job, everybody on here today. And it is awesome Sunday, don't you know?
Yeah, amen. All right, we are out of time. We have the Vintage Military Radio Network that follows our net at 6:50.
So we need to have time for prayer. I'll be closing in prayer today. It's my turn today.
So anyway, are there any final prayer requests that anybody wants to bring to our attention? Please come down with your call plan. All right, let's go to the Lord in prayer.
Father, our hearts are really grieved as we see how Job's being treated. A man of honor, a man of integrity. A man of sincerity, a man of faith, a man of generosity and selfless service to others has a calamity and everybody piles on and falsely accuses him.
Lord, we see that happening to our Lord Jesus. He went about doing good. Never sinned against you, never sinned against any man.
And yet... People seek false accusations on him, and he had to patiently bear them. Not only for the three years of his ministry, but also, and especially upon the cross, where we read of the horrible treatment and mocking and hitting and scorn and injury that was done to him there.
Father, we recognize the servant is not above his master. And if they have persecuted and falsely accused and slandered Jesus, they're certainly going to do it to us. As was said on the net today, the more we serve God, the higher profile our impact is for God.
the greater the assaults are going to be. So, Father, help us not to be discouraged. Help us not to throw in the towel because the going is rough.
But, Father, help us to just reinforce our faith in you and our trust in you and our belief in you and your promises. And help us, as Paul says to Timothy, to endure hardness as good soldiers of Jesus Christ. And Lord, we pray that we would look past our circumstances to our Savior, not only as our example, but as our vindicator.
And that on the day of judgment, we will have our justice. And, Father, just be patient until then and just keep doing the right thing, even though everyone around us is doing the wrong thing. Father, we just also want to bring before you today the needs that we have in our group of fellowship here.
Father, we think of Roger at WB7DZL. His sister Candy and her friend May are traveling to Kenya on Mondays. that's tomorrow and Lord we just pray for safe journey and successful ministry among the deaf Father give them physical strength these are not young girls these are women who are dealing with all of the issues of older age And yet, Lord, I pray that you would give them supernatural strength.
I pray that you'd protect their health. I pray, Lord, that as they arrive, that you would give them wisdom in how to minister to the deaf and in seeing that ministry move forward there in Kenya. And, Father, may those deaf kids become saved and to trust in Jesus.
And may you give them hearing ears, Father, so that they can hear your voice in the scriptures and through those who minister the word of God to them. And so, Father, just give Candy and Mae protection, safety, strength, wisdom, courage, and faith. and success in their ministry.
Father, we want to pray for our brother George K2KJX. His wife Sue is having thyroid surgery on Wednesday the 17th, just a couple of days from now. Lord, I pray that you would be with Sue.

========== ### Scripture Reading (KJV)
**Job 30:1-31:40**

1 But now they that are younger than I have me in derision; whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock. 2 Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished? 3 For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste. 4 Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat. 5 They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;) 6 To dwell in the cliffs of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks. 7 Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together. 8 They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth. 9 And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword. 10 They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face. 11 Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me. 12 Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction. 13 They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper. 14 They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me. 15 Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud. 16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction are come, the nights of my sorrow are established. 17 My bones are pierced in me in the daytime: and my sinews take no rest. 18 By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat. 19 He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes. 20 I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not. 21 Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me. 22 Thou liftest me up to the wind, thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance. 23 For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living. 24 Howbeit he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction. 25 Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor? 26 When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness. 27 My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me. 28 I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation. 29 I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls. 30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are dried up within me. 31 Therefore am I troubled at the thought of my flesh: for it shall have no rest, because of mine affliction.
**Job 31:1-40**
1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; how then should I look upon a maid? 2 For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? 3 Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity? 4 Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps? 5 If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit; 6 Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity. 7 If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands; 8 Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let mine offspring be rooted out. 9 If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door; 10 Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her. 11 For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges. 12 For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase. 13 If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me; 14 What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him? 15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb? 16 If I have denied the poor his desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; 17 Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof; 18 (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and she hath been to me as a mother.) 19 If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; 20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; 21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: 22 Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone. 23 For I was afraid of calamities: I knew I was not innocent: I was afraid of all continuance of evil. 24 If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; 25 If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much; 26 If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness; 27 And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand: 28 This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above. 29 If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him: 30 Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul. 31 If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied. 32 The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller. 33 If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom: 34 Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me? that I kept silence, and went not out of the door? 35 Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book. 36 Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me. 37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him. 38 If my land cry against me, and the furrows thereof weep, and make me to bear the reproach of the husbandmen. 39 If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life: 40 Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

### Study Summary
In Job chapters 30 and 31, Job contrasts his past and present, reflecting on how his life has changed from a position of honor and respect to one of mockery and disdain. In chapter 30, Job laments the loss of his former status, noting that even the lowest members of society now mock him, a stark reversal from his former dignity and influence. This chapter underscores the theme of unjust suffering and the silence of God, as Job cries out for justice but receives no answer.
Chapter 31, on the other hand, is a powerful declaration of Job's integrity and character. Job lists his actions and promises to God, affirming his righteousness and his care for the poor and widows. He vows to maintain his integrity and trust in God, even in the face of his current afflictions. This chapter serves as Job's final protest of his innocence, emphasizing his commitment to living righteously and his readiness to face God's judgment.
The study also highlighted the transition from the arguments of Eliphaz, Zophar, and Bildad to the partial vindication of Job by Elihu, who encourages Job to trust in God's purpose in his affliction. The group discussed the parallels between Job's experience and that of Christ, noting the unjust treatment and the need for patience and trust in God's timing.
Participants also engaged in prayer for various individuals and situations, reflecting on the themes of suffering, patience, and trust in God's ultimate justice and vindication. The study concluded with a reminder of the importance of maintaining integrity and trusting in God, even in the face of unjust suffering. ==========
