Alright, any other check-ins? Please come now 5 Yankee 5 Yankee, good, good to hear your voice, go ahead We're 31.1 out here.

How cold are you? Uh, we are at 36 degrees, so yeah, it's cool. Okay, thank you.

Yeah, hey, Beck, do you think you can do some scripture reading for us today? Yes, sir, I can. Thank you.

All right, real good. So if you could be ready for that, that'd be great. Look over Job Chapter 4.

All right, any other check-ins this morning? Please come now. KB7, ZXN.

KB7, ZXN, good morning, Kevin. How you doing? Good morning.

well good morning max praising God today he gave me 65 years around the Sun or 65 times around the Sun I should say so made it through another one so praising God for that and looking forward to today of worshiping and our great Lord KB 7 zed accept Well, happy birthday, Kevin. Sixty-five years, yep. And sure appreciate you being here.

So it sounds like you were born in 1960. I was born in 1955. So yeah, just five years older than you.

So anyway, praise the Lord, Kevin. That's a good age, and glad that you've made it that far with God's blessing. And, you know, it's amazing.

As I sit here and count up the years, I think, you know, it doesn't matter. I've got eternal life. I've got an infinite number of years yet to go.

So what an encouragement that God's preserved you, saved you. and has given you good health and life up to this point. And may your remaining years be used for his glory and for the cause of his son and kingdom.

Good for you, Kevin. Thanks for being there. Well, amen and thank you, brother.

I'm just so grateful for his mercies and his grace. and that he's been able to use me in some small part, you know, in his kingdom there and to help grow it. But, yeah, to him be the glory for all that is good in my life and throughout all.

But anyway, looking forward to the net today. KB7 is that extent. All right, real good, Kevin.

Praise the Lord for that. All right, any other check-ins this morning? Please come down to your call sign.

WB7VZL. And good morning, Roger. WB7VZL, good to have you with us, brother.

How you doing? Yeah, just celebrating Kevin's birthday with you both on the side. Over.

Yeah, copy that. So how'd the preaching go yesterday? Well, actually, I had the opportunity to listen to another preacher, and it was wonderful.

I just played violin with the congregation, a viola actually, with a trumpet. which I don't really like the combination myself, but she loves to have me try to play along with, try to equal her sound in a sense. We praised the Lord together.

My wife found out that the organ still works. Did a beautiful job, as usual. So that was wonderful.

And we had a sad, we had an amazing, well, I mean, the napkin was dark. I better not share that story, but it was quite an amazing story. Maybe after the dad, over.

Yeah, copy that. Okay, real good, Roger. Glad things went well.

Hey, I got two favors to ask you. One is that we're going to read some large sections of Scripture today. We're going to read all of Job chapter 4 and all of Job chapter 5.

because that's Eliphaz's answer to Job, and we need to view that as a unit. It's a single-thought unit. So I've got Beck reading Chapter 4, and I need you to read Chapter 5 for us.

Can you do that? That's like, what, 27 verses? Well, I think my transmitter will continue to work under that load.

It's made out of World War II parts, so to speak. Over. Okay.

All right, well, if you start to overheat, let me know, and I'll continue on with the reading myself. So anyway, appreciate you doing that. The second request I got of you is that I'm going to be up at CPAC Saturday morning.

And I need you to run the net for me Saturday morning, which means, brother, you got to get up early and be on the radio at 540 to start taking check-ins. Beck has volunteered to run the SDRs. And if you could handle the check-ins and the traffic, I would be deeply, profoundly appreciative.

Can you handle that for me on Saturday morning? I certainly am used to being lazy and late, but yeah, when the time comes that I need to do that, I'll make it happen. I'm not going to be lazy.

I'm going to be a good man. Yeah, well, whatever. What's happening at Sea-Tac?

Yeah, well, it's a ham swap meet, and it's also my wedding anniversary. So we're going to be leaving Friday morning right after the net. We're going to spend Friday night up there in Cannon Beach with my lovely bride of 51 years.

And so we have these ups and downs as our trials go on and on and on. And so this book is designed to help us avoid such fluctuations. And like Abraham, be strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully persuaded that what God has promised, he's able also to perform, as it says in Romans chapter 4.

And so here he is. He needs some encouragement. He needs some direction.

He needs some of the promises that God brought to him. He needs to be strengthened. But his three friends that show up don't strengthen him.

They, in fact, tear him down. And that's what we're going to be seeing today. Okay.

And so basically these three friends have some really, really limited understanding of theology. Their premise is simply this. All suffering is caused by sin.

And that's true. Job is suffering. That's true.

So the conclusion they draw is, therefore Job has sinned, which is false. Now, the point is that the conclusion is false because it assumes that the one suffering is the one who has sinned. And it forgets the possibility that the one suffering may be suffering as a result of someone else's sin.

They are broken in pieces from morning till evening. They perish forever with no one regarding. Does not their own excellence go away?

They die even without wisdom. Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee, over to you, Roger. Alright, thank you.

I was blessed to hear how similar the New King James was to NASB. This is NASB, Chapter 5. This is WB7VZL.

"Call now, is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn? For vexation slays the foolish man, and anger kills the simple.

I have seen the foolish taking root, and I cursed his abode immediately. His sons are far from safety; they are even oppressed in the gate, neither is there a deliverer. His harvest the hungry devour, and take it to the place of thorns; and the schemer is eager for their wealth.

ZXN. Kevin, KB7ZXN, please go ahead. Well, KB7ZXN, here's a perfect example, I believe, of good theology in the wrong hands.

And it's used as a weapon against the wounded, if you will. You know, Job finally opens his mouth. Job opens his mouth in chapter 3 with great anguish.

And I'd be very careful. to criticize him and his response because his response has been really uh within the boundaries of of god's acceptance and the the extraordinary pain he not only emotionally and and uh in his heart, but physically on top of it. And the level of loss is just hard to imagine all at once here.

And yet God does not rebuke his response. that this is the source of your trouble. And instead of saying, "This is why you're having these problems," say, "Well, it's possible that you could be having these problems because of this or this or this or this.

What do you think?" And it would have given an opportunity for there to be a productive conversation about the situation instead of an immediate offense. And so pride, I think, causes people to think they know more than they do and it makes them ready to make pronouncements that did they know all the information? they would not make those kind of pronouncements.

So this is why we need really skilled pastors. This is why we need really skilled counselors. Not everyone is competent and qualified to engage in that activity, and we see that these men weren't.

And so thank you, Kevin, for pointing out. the way that these guys mishandled this situation. When people think they have a part of the truth and they think it's the whole truth, they can easily wind up uttering an untruth.

And these guys did have part of the truth. can really impact us. And then, you know, sometimes God allows things for other reasons.

You know, I think of the man in John chapter 9. You know, he's crippled by the pool of Bethesda, and you know, no death, no loss. So yes, sin is always the cause of our problems, but you know, it may be because of the sin in general, the fallen world we live in.

It may be because of the sin *Humming* . *Ding* *Siren* so Thank you. Thank you.

========== ### Scripture Reading (KJV) <blockquote> Job 4:1-5:27 (KJV)

1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, 2 If one assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking? 3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands. 4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. 5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. 6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways? 7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off? 8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. 9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. 10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. 11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad. 12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof. 13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, 14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. 15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up: 16 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying, 17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker? 18 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly: 19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth? 20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it. 21 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom. 22 Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God. 23 Doth thou know the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth? 24 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee? 25 Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are? 26 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart? 27 And he said unto man, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

### Study Summary

The Bible study focused on Job 4 and 5, where Eliphaz, one of Job's friends, responds to Job's suffering. Eliphaz's premise is that all suffering is caused by sin, leading him to conclude that Job must have sinned. This misunderstanding highlights the friends' lack of theological understanding and their tendency to tear Job down instead of strengthening him. The study emphasized the importance of skilled pastors and counselors who can handle such situations without making presumptuous pronouncements.

Eliphaz's argument is based on a partial truth: that sin can lead to suffering. However, this partial truth can become an untruth when applied incorrectly. The study pointed out that suffering can have various causes, including someone else's sin or general sin in the world. This was illustrated by the example from John 9 about the man at the pool of Bethesda, emphasizing that suffering can have multiple causes.

The discussion also included personal reflections, with Kevin sharing his gratitude for God's mercies and grace on his birthday. Roger reflected on his preaching and playing the viola with the congregation, emphasizing the importance of handling theology with care and not using it as a weapon against the wounded.

The study concluded with a reminder of the importance of understanding the full context of suffering and not making presumptuous conclusions. It highlighted the need for skilled and competent counselors and pastors who can handle such situations with care and wisdom, ensuring that they do not add to the pain of those who are already suffering. ==========
