All right, Jeff, good to hear your voice, great signal. Hope you got a cup of coffee, and I'm glad you're ready to go today. It's good to have you with us, and a good signal.

Any prior requests there, Jeff? Go ahead. Um...

Let me think through that one. Yes, I'll have a prayer request by the end for sure. And I did order the 8400 yesterday from DX Engineering.

It's on its way here. Well, real good. I'm excited to hear that.

Yep. All right. Well, good to hear you making some progress there and...

Got something in the mail for you, so that should be arriving whenever the post office gets around to it. They're slow. That for sure has not arrived yet, but that's okay.

No problem. If my coffee is on the machine here, I'm going to go grab it. I appreciate that, and we'll chat with you in a minute.

That's Jeff, AK6OK. All right. Any other check-ins this morning?

Please come down. all right there is keith kilo 7 november echo bravo good morning keith how you doing all right can anybody give me a relay on keith i just lost him in the mud i didn't know if he had a prayer request or not anybody any relays Okay, Keith, I wasn't able to copy the last part of your transmission. If there was a prayer request in there, just text message me, please.

All right, that is Keith, K7NEB. All right, any other check-ins, please come now. WB7 of EZL.

And good morning, Roger. Good to have you with us. I hope you have a blessed day at church today.

How are you doing? Yeah. We haven't been to this church for a while, and it's Yuma Pine, two miles into Oregon from the state line.

And it was one of the three churches that I served for many, many years. And then Daylene, let's see, well yeah, Daylene plays the organ and kind of warms up the old organ when she's there. Over.

Yeah, well she is a multi-talented lady, that's for sure. And, yeah, those old organs, they're fun. Is it actually electric?

We used to have one that we had to push the foot pedal and run the bellows to make the thing work. Yeah, well, this is not that old, but it is old as far as electronics are concerned. And we're just always relieved when it sounds for us.

The repairman who was in the church itself has recently died. And so you know what that is. That means that it would be on me to make arrangements and I'm not nearly the technician that he was.

His call was N7ACW. Keith Carlin, he was a wonderful, wonderful technician and just an amazing electronics guy. Anyway, just reminiscing here, WB7VZL.

Yeah, real good, Roger. All right, well, we'll be praying that you have a great day down there. Just a shout-out again to Michael, KN6BXX.

Michael, see you there in Carmichael, California. Do recognize your QRZ page from the past. Yep, I think we've actually talked on the radio, maybe on a different frequency once.

So, Michael, Kilo November 6, Bravo X-ray, X-ray, thanks for checking in from Carmichael, California. I used to live in Carmichael, California. and on Landis Avenue, so just off of Fair Oaks Boulevard there.

So anyway, Michael, good to have you with us, and appreciate you checking in. All right, any other check-ins to the West Coast Bible Study, please come down. Good morning, KB7, ZXN.

Good morning, Kevin, KB7, ZXN. How are you doing, Kevin? Any prayer requests?

Well, we're doing okay. No new requests for me today. Just glad to be here.

KB7, ZXN. All right, Kevin, real good. Good to have you with us.

All right, so let's see. I just saw Gene show up, K7GWR. Good morning, Gene.

Good to have you with us. Appreciate you being there. Gene just showed up on the Utah SDR, K7GWR.

And let's see. Looking for Peter. There he is, Peter, KJ7BA.

Been so busy talking, haven't had a chance to look over there and see you on Utah. So Peter, KJ7BA is there in Utah, and now Peter says good morning to everyone. Good morning to you, Peter.

Good to have you with us. All right. I think I'm caught up.

Let me -- give me a second here to just look things over. Oh, there's Dan, N6TNI. Good morning, Dan.

Good to have you with us. Appreciate you being there. That's Dan, N6TNI from North Highlands on the Half Moon Bay SDR.

I've got Phillip, got Peter. Yep. Okay.

I think we're caught up. I will continue to look over at these STRs from time to time and hopefully pick people up as they show up. But for now, it is time for us to get started.

We are in the book of Job. And we are in Chapter 3. But before we get started with that chapter, we want to open our time together in prayer.

And so, Ed, in 6XOH, if you could pray for us this morning. Really appreciate that. Go ahead there, Ed.

sure let us pray dear Heavenly Father we just come to you this morning we ask that you bless our Bible study here this morning that each person here is able to get a blessing from reading your words Lord and listening to this study. Just ask, Lord, that you continue to watch over each and every one of us. You know, I just pray that you're with Pastor Max as he brings us the bread of life as he leads out.

We just ask a special blessing on him. And, Lord, we just ask that you bless each person here as they go through the day. help them all to keep their eyes on you and be able to listen to your small voice, Lord, as you talk to each one of us, Lord, as we study your word.

Watch over us today. Help us all to be ready when you come to take us home, Lord. I pray in Jesus' name.

Amen. N-6-X-O-H. Amen, Ed.

Thank you so much for that prayer. I really appreciate that. Everybody remember Ed today.

He's going to be preaching. And, of course, Roger WB7VCL is going to be also. So we've got a couple of guys that are bringing the Word of God today to their respective churches.

All right. We are now coming to a new major section in the book of Job. And that is the discourse between him and his three friends regarding his situation.

So we have been looking at the setting and the background of the book of Job in chapters 1 to 2. In chapter 1, we saw the first satanic assault against Job. And then, of course, in chapter 2, we saw the second satanic assault against Job, and, of course, what the outcome and the results of that satanic assault was.

And so in our previous studies, we've seen the character of Job, that he was a mature and an upright man, one who feared God and who shunned evil. We saw that God even brought Job before Satan as a model example of what a Christian looks like and how he lives and behaves. And of course we saw the slander of Satan, "Well, if you take away his stuff, or if you take away his health, he will blaspheme you to your face." because he's only serving you because of all the gifts you give him.

He would never serve you just for who you are. And so Satan was challenging God's character. that he wasn't worthy to be served just for who he was, but only for his gifts.

And of course he was blaspheming Job's character and motives, that he was just a mercenary user who took advantage of God for his own selfish self-interest and self-gain. Well, God said, "Let's put that to the test." Let's see if that's true or not, and we'll put a display on before all the angels of the universe, both good and evil, as to who I am and as to who Job is and as to the reality of our relationship, the love and loyalty he has to me, and of course the faithfulness that I have to him. And so we then saw the initial response of Job to these circumstances.

He did really well. We saw in chapter 1 that when he received all this disastrous news that Satan was allowed to do in his life, he says, "...naked came I out of my mother's womb, naked shall I return thither. The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away." Blessed be the name of the Lord.

And in all this, Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. And then with the second cycle of satanic assault, we saw that his wife failed the test. She counseled him to curse God and die.

Which of course is exactly what Satan wanted to produce in Job But wasn't able to and once again Job responded really well He says shall we receive good at the hand of God and shall we not receive evil or adversity? But in all of this did not Job's then with his lips so twice were told that Job did well past the test and But here he is, bereft of all of his possessions, bereft of all of his children, bereft of the love and loyalty of his wife who is now turned against him, and then of course bereft of his health. He's been struck with boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.

And even though he passed the test, his situation remained the same. He still got this illness. He's still without his possessions, his children or his wife.

All of his servants are killed. And he's in a miserable state of affairs. Well, his three friends hear about that, and they show up to bring him some comfort.

And we will see what kind of comfort they bring. We saw last time in our study in Chapter 2, that they made an appointment together to come and mourn with him. In verse 11 of chapter 2, verse 13, they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights.

That time signature is important. And none spoke a word to him, for they saw his grief was very great. So these guys show up out of sympathy and concern for Job.

They're going to try to... bring some counsel and comfort to him and seven days pass in which nobody says anything they're just all sitting there thinking all right and joke finally breaks the silence in chapter three and we're going to read about what he has to say and about what his three friends have to say this WP 7 in the end so There are three cycles of dialogue that happen in chapters 3 to 31. So the vast bulk of the book is this dialogue that Job has with his three friends, chapter 3 to 31.

And it opens with the lamentation of Job in chapter 3, which we're going to read today. And then we see this extended dialogue between Job and his three friends in chapters 4 to 31. And we see there's three cycles of dialogue.

And in each cycle, his three friends speak, and Job replies after each one speaks. And we're going to see they all essentially say the same thing. suffering is always caused by sin and only caused by sin and therefore since job is suffering job must ascend job what did you commit out with it repent of it and God's blessing will return to you And of course Job's response is, "Well, certainly I am a sinner.

I've not knowingly practiced this, and there is no sin that I've committed that could possibly explain the disastrous circumstances I'm in as just being merely the chastisement of God." There has to be another explanation, and the problem with Job is he doesn't know what the explanation is. And so he's saying, I wish God would explain himself to me. And he turns to his three friends and he says, you're miserable comforters because you falsely accused me of some unrepentant sin in my life.

When in fact, that's not the explanation. And of course, that joke was right. We know what the explanation was.

He didn't know what the explanation was. He wanted an explanation. And sometimes you get pretty petulant in demanding one.

But the other thing we see is that he vacillates. between being really frustrated with his situation and wanting answers, and other times he responds with tremendous faith and willingness to wait on God and see what God's purposes are. And, you know, we all do that.

In our trials, there are periods of times where we respond really well. faith, trust, hope, confidence in God, even though we don't know what's going on. And then other times the circumstances really overwhelm us, right?

And we get to the point to where we are just fit to be tied. We don't know what's going on, and we start saying things that probably shouldn't be said. about our situation and wondering what in the world is God doing here and and even demanding answers out of God as though he needs to justify himself to us well what we see in the end of the book is that Job learns to trust and without understanding why.

And so he says, Okay, God, you're great. I'm sub. Whatever you decide, I accept because you're God and I'm not.

And I know that you have good intentions towards me and I'll just trust that... Those good intentions are being manifested in my circumstances, even though I don't see how. So the book of Job teaches us to trust God without understanding all the reasons behind why.

There's that big question, why? And I think the question we need to ask ourselves is, what does God want me to do in this circumstance? He wants me to trust Him, He wants me to pray, He wants me to maintain a good attitude, He wants me to continue to worship, He wants me to continue to serve, to read my Bible, share the Gospel, and let Him take care of the "why" in His due time.

That was quite the introduction in terms of consuming time. I apologize for that, but it's really important that we get the perspective of where this argument is going and what it's about. This is WV7MAX.

All right, I'm going to ask Jerry, AE7ER. Jerry, go ahead and then read for us Job's lamentation here in Chapter 3, and we'll be discussing this chapter in the remainder of our time. Jerry, AE7ER, go ahead.

All right, Chapter 3. Chapter where Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. And Job said, let the day perish on which I was to be born.

And at night, which said, A boy can see, may that day be darkened, but not God above care for it, nor his white shine on it, but darkness and black gloom claim it. Let a cloud settle on it, let the blackness of the day terrify it. As for the night, let darkness seize it, Let it not be joy from in the days of the year.

Let it not come into the number of months. Behold, let that night be barren. Let no joy shout enter it.

Let those curses who curse for days We're prepared to rouse the sciences. Let the stars in the twilight be darkened. Let it wait for light that has not.

And let it be seen breaking down. Because it's, uh... They did not shut the opening of my mother's room or hide trouble from my eyes.

Why did I not die at birth, come forth from the womb and expire? Why did the knees deceive me, and why the breasts that I should touch? For now I would have lain down and been quiet.

I would have slept in. I would have been at rest. With kings and with councils of the earth, who rebuilt ruins for themselves.

For the princes who ruined them. There were the princes who had bowed. I'm excusing.

For the princes who had schooled. Schoolers filling their houses with salt. Full like a miscarriage which is discarded, I would not be.

As infants that never saw life. There the wicked cease from raging, and there the weary are at rest. The prisoners are at ease together.

He did not hear the voice of the cat of Smashing, the snow and the grave of the grave, and the slave of the tree of Smashing. Why has light given to him who suffers, and life to the bitter of souls? Who longs for death, that there is none?

and dig for it more than for hidden treasures. He rejoiced greatly and exulted when they signed the grave. And the flag was like heaven to a man whose way is hidden and whom God has hidden down.

So my groaning comes at the sight of my feet, and my cries pour out like water. and for what fear comes upon me and what I dread befalls me. I am not at ease, nor am I quiet, and I am not at rest, but turmoil comes.

That's you, 87 years. Jerry, excellent reading. Thank you so much for that.

Well, this is the opening salvo of Job's response after seven days of reflection. Any comments on this section? Please come down with your calls.

The KB7 is at Xen. Kevin, please go ahead. Thank you, Max.

I just wanted to, you told me to wait until tomorrow to comment on chapter, section of chapter 2 first, just briefly on his wife. You know, I think there, the way I see it is she was using the counsel of despair that led her to respond the way she did. And this is something that is very dangerous.

I don't know that it necessarily speaks to her salvation. But it speaks to where her focus is. And her focus was on what's around her.

And remember just recently as we started in Colossians, Paul admonishes us to keep our focus on above, to keep our focus on heavenly things, to keep our focus on God. And that's where he would, you know, that's where our counsel should be. Sadly, this despair that it is so prevalent in our world today, and those that I think seek God and those that don't can fall into that counsel of despair, and it is very, very dangerous.

But here as we transition here into this, we go from the narrative to really understanding an interesting form of Hebrew poetry if you will but one that he expresses great anguish and discouragement which is different than despair but he still does not curse God. But one of the things, two points here, just real briefly. The first point is his language of lament.

His language that he expresses here is a legitimate biblical category of speech. It's something we see in the Word of God. We see it in the Book of Lamentations.

We see it in Psalm 22. We see it in Psalm 88, Psalm 102. Throughout the Word of God, we see lamentation in the speech of.

And in this section, the first area of texture, he talks so much about it. just the pain and the human emotion that he is enduring in his speech here your heart if you have any empathy at all your heart kind of breaks with him on that. The other point, too, is he also speaks of why asking questions.

Why wasn't I stillborn? How can I be born into such misery? Why, you know, why God?

Why God? Well, God is... Neither one of these expressions of speech, it's worth noting that God does not condemn that.

He does not rebuke him from that speech. He's letting him express that anguish that he feels. He's letting him ask these questions as legitimate questions without rebuke.

And I think that's worth noting too. It says, it's really God's silence here is also a statement from God. KB7, is that acceptable?

You know, Kevin, thank you for tying Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 together like you just did. You know, that's an excellent point. And, you know, what a contrast between the response of Job's wife and the response of Job.

Job's wife, her counsel was the counsel, as you said, of despair. There is no hope. And Job's response was one of discouragement.

It was one of lamentation. It was one of pain. But it wasn't one of despair.

He's asking questions, and as you said, it's perfectly fine to ask questions as long as it's done with an attitude of faith and humility instead of an attitude of rebellion and anger and defiance. You know, life hurts really, really bad at times. Really bad.

And in those times, Satan tempts us to, as it were, kick God to the curb, be done with him, and even start cursing him and turning our back on him and going back to the world and becoming apostate. That is never... appropriate response and it's not the response that I think a real believer will have and while we don't know the state of Job's wife certainly we can say that she was being very ungodly and she was responding independent of any faith at least at this point in her life And you know what's interesting, Kevin, is that she's not even the one who was suffering the way Job was.

Now, of course, she lost her possessions too, and she certainly lost her children. But she wasn't struck with boils the way Job was. Her trial wasn't as great as his, and yet her response is much worse.

than his. And so, you know, the thing we see here about Job is that, number one, he responded with humility. He exercised self-control.

And he didn't use his sickness as an excuse to lash out at God or lash out at his wife. And then he not only responded with humility and self-control, he also responded with sound reason. He began to reason with his wife about, you know, we don't know why this has happened, but we do know that what has happened is certainly within the legitimate bounds of the character of God.

You know, everybody is all ready to be excited when God chooses to bring great material blessings and great health into the life. But do they equally justify God when he brings trials and difficulties and hardships and suffering and pain into our lives? Because that's part of his providence, too.

And that's part of the manifestation of his love to us and his goodness to us that he would bring some pain to us. Now, most of us here have been parents. And, you know, you have seen your child grow up.

And there are times when you stand back and you really let them struggle or you even intentionally place challenges in front of them. that initially frustrate them and that seem too hard for them. And yet, what are you doing?

In your love, you're trying to bring them to the next level of maturity, show them they can overcome the challenge, and teach them to grow up. And so part of God's love to us is allowing difficulties into our lives so that we can grow up. And I think that's what's going on here.

So, Kevin, I really appreciate you making the distinction between despair and discouragement. Those are two different things. Lamentation of pain.

versus rebellion and defiance those are two different things so it's okay to cry it's okay to be discouraged it's okay to not know what in the world is going on uh and to think what if uh i were in a different circumstance those are all natural things that we go through but in those things what do we do? we turn toward God we don't turn away from him we increase our trust we don't increase our unbelief and we humble ourselves instead of shaking the fence in the face of God Kevin, excellent perspective tying chapter 2 and 3 together thank you for that alright, other comments, please come now AK6OK Jeff, AK6OK, go ahead Yes, one thing we need to remember in 3 is that he never called out God and said, I blame you for this. And we've got to be careful to do the same as well.

Bad things do happen to us and happen to our families and separation from our families and all kinds of bad stuff. We have to be careful not to point the finger at God and say, God, you made this happen, or God, you allowed this to happen. Because as I brought out yesterday, when things like health concerns come up, serious health concerns like cancer, etc., Some have an affinity towards saying, God caused this, what did I do?

Just like we're seeing here with Job. When in fact, he's preparing a testimony for somebody that cannot be argued with. And I did present this myself and a lot of you guys out there have.

This next month I've been asked to speak to 150 high school students for three days. The misery that I've been able to go through and come out the other end, you know, going into this alley of the shadow of death, but not staying there to die, but to come out the other side with a renewed perspective that you can share with others. to point them to the Lord and say, you know what, this Lord is real, and this Lord does bring us through a terrible stone.

Most of it is brought on by the enemy. Over. Well said.

Thank you for pointing that out, Jeff. You know, we don't blame God. We blame sin and Satan, and Satan in particular, because Satan is the author of sin here.

Satan is therefore the author of all of our misery, all of our sorrows. And the good news, Jeff, is 1 John 3, 8, right? For this cause, for this purpose, was the Son of God manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil.

And, of course, the works of the devil is producing sorrow and death. And we have, you know, tremendous times of something other than sorrow and death. We have a lot of blessings in our lives.

All of the credit for those blessings go to God. And all of the blame for the misery goes to Satan. And so while God certainly allows Satan, a leaf, to operate, and he has permitted evil to come into this world, nevertheless, the scripture is very clear that God is not the author or the originator of sin, that he limits and manages sins.

for the purpose of achieving his glory and the good of his people, and then ultimately he's going to eradicate sin. And in the new heavens and the new earth, there isn't going to be any sin. sickness or sorrow or pain.

And so we need to understand the moral structure of providence and where the blame goes. And you are right, Jeff. Job did not blame God.

And when we go through the valley of the shadow of death, he is with us. his rod and his staff comfort us. So no matter what deep trial the effects of sin in this world and in the Garden of Eden bring us down into, God is always there right beside us, right with us, conducting us through, ensuring that that even though we suffer pain, we don't suffer permanent injury.

In fact, the pain is actually used for good and to bring blessing into our life, to bring us out the other side, so that now you have a testimony. I mean, Jeff, you wouldn't have the things to say to those high school students that you're going to say to them to encourage them in their faith unless God had taken you through the valley of the shadow of death and so as you look back you see yeah that wasn't a good thing but God worked it for good and God's bringing good out of it and God is now equipping me to minister to others through it so in God's plan The pain he puts us through always, always, always has redemptive purposes. And it always, always works out for a higher good and a greater good than could have ever occurred had he not put us through that.

So we have to be, as Bert said yesterday, long softly, recognizing that God is the great blacksmith, and he's forging us in the furnace and with a hammer and on the anvil to be something beautiful and wonderful in the image of his son. Jeff, great perspective. Thank you for that.

All right, other comments, please come down. W7RKD. Burt, W7RKD, good to have you with us, brother.

Go ahead. Good morning, W7RKD. Woke up a little while ago.

Yeah, I took a nap. I had to get a power nap in. Could be busy today.

Anyhow, yeah. Max, I think, I can't recall exactly, but I've heard it. I've heard this process that we go through called sifting.

Is that correct? Yeah, that's correct. Sifting is a legitimate term to use where God sifts out the chaff.

and what's left behind is the weed or he sips out the impurities and what's left is pure flour. Go ahead there, Bert. Okay, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, he's coming to weed this floor. Oh boy. I hope I'm on the right I think all of the very start of the tribulation, first the tribulation in that walk with Christ, and of course outside, whether we remember those verses, some of us get to picture heads and others like me.

- Hey, you know who it is? - Just being wild. - It could just be his body bag.

- Who would it be, huh? - Uh, who's that one? - So, you know, he's a lot of, uh, painful recovery.

Too many other tribulations that I've experienced, something in my walking Christ since then. And you know, I went through a point where I thought God loved me. And I thought He didn't care anymore.

I even shunned Him. And I'm ashamed. And I will admit my sin, ultimately, Uh, I had a tattooed on my arm.

He didn't care anymore. And then a player came over and I turned my wife over to him. Again.

Over and over. And we had the guy standing there at the drawing board. Of all places now.

And then I met this woman and we got to go back in. And we got to get back in. - We checked out and we persevered as Paul told us today.

And, you know, we haven't -- we've suffered down there. But not in the intensity that it was before. I'm trying to -- trying to -- trying to -- I just want to summarize what I've expressed and where it's gotten me today.

And, you know, it doesn't matter. You know, it doesn't matter how bad the rainstorm gets relating to the northwest Washington and the Olympics out there. You know, 180 degrees.

let us know who he was - - - - across the river to be with him W7RKD yeah Bert thank you for sharing about your life and the process you've gone through of being sifted by God having negative providences happening maybe not responding perfectly in each of those situations but ultimately recognizing who God is and turning back to God you know it's often been said that no one um gets in a fight with God and wins. And there's a passage we're going to be looking at later on in the book of Job in which it says, Acquaint now thyself with him and be at peace. And you know, a lot of the reasons why we respond poorly...

is because we really don't understand who God is. We have bad theology that is our doctrine of God, his character, his nature, his purposes, his program, the way in which he deals with things. We're ignorant of all of that.

And so the antidote in my life to not responding negatively to providences is to have a better understanding of the nature of God. And that's one of the things we're going to see in this book in all of these discussions. There's a lot of discussion about, well, who is God?

And what is God like? And what does he want from us? And what is his perspective on these issues?

And how does he deal? And so it says in the book of Daniel chapter 11, the people that know their God shall be strong and do exploits. And so we have among the Christian church at large a very low view of God, a very shallow view of God, and a very incomplete view of God.

And so one of the best books Bert Ivor read was a book by J.I. Packer called Knowing God. And through that book, I became acquainted with God.

And once you understand who God is, then providential circumstances aren't nearly the difficulty that they are if we're ignorant of who God is. A.W. Tozer wrote a book called The Knowledge of the Holies.

A.W. Pink wrote a book called The Attributes of God. I read all three of those books.

And it's like, okay, now I know who God is. Now I can interpret my circumstances in light of his character, his nature, his plans, his purposes. And the bigger your God is in your mind, the smaller your problems are in your life.

And so we need a big God in order to handle the problems that we face. And that big God is revealed to us in the scriptures. Bert, thank you for sharing your life and that illustration.

of sifting and struggling. And I'm so pleased you came out on the right side, the side of faith, the side of trust, the side of patience, and the side of gratitude. You know, Bert, one of the things I appreciate about you is you always talk about how much you're blessed.

and that attitude of thankfulness goes a long way towards helping us process even the negative circumstances because we realize that even in them we have so much to be grateful for. And so instead of focusing on the pain, We focus on the blessing that God has given to us, and as Jeff was saying, the things above. All right, any other comments on this chapter?

Please come down to your call line. To that extent. To that extent.

Kevin, go ahead. Yeah, KB7 is at Xen. I really appreciate the comments of you, Bert, and Jeff as well.

They're, you know, I think very good, important perspectives. And, you know, here we see to the response of Job. you know satan was hoping that he would respond in the despair as an atheist would respond and curse god this was his whole motivation but we see job here RESPOND AS A BELIEVER IN AGONY.

AND INSTEAD OF CURSING GOD, HE CURSES THE DAY HE WAS BORN. AND HE... HE...

INSTEAD OF TURNING AWAY FROM GOD, HE TURNS TO GOD WITH THIS DEEP, DEEP ANGUISH THAT HE HAS. YOU KNOW, IT'S... IT'S...

YOU KNOW, IT'S... IT'S... IT'S...

IT'S GREAT HERE IN THE COMFORT OF OUR HOMES NOW TO... discuss some of the theological components of this, but the deep just anguish that he spared. When you're in the moment, when you have lost, in trying to put yourself in this place, we've all lost someone we love dearly.

We've all lost, like Jeff talked about, someone who faced life and death health challenges and many difficult circumstances. and when you're in that moment what do you where you turn well here he turns to God he though he's cursing the day he was born keep in mind one of the great prophets of the Old Testament Jeremiah and in 20 verses 14 through 18 that text there Jeremiah also expresses the same sentiment of cursing the day he was born the pain, the anguish that one can go through but here's another important point even in that circumstance even though we may suffer greatly or you know I pray no one suffers as Job did but even if we do through our suffering God uses us God uses you and I, even in that time of anguish, even in that period where we are struggling with the circumstance and the loss that we may be facing. God still will and can use you.

KB7, ZXM. That's right, Kevin. You know, it's those who suffer the most that God uses the most.

You know, a life of ease is not the desirable life because that life breeds presumption, it breeds self-satisfaction, and it breeds an attitude of autonomy from God. And so difficulties arise are actually blessings because they provide us with perspective on this life. We don't get our hearts all wrapped up in this life.

We're really looking toward that eternal life with God in heaven and the new heavens and the new earth. And when you read Psalm 73, you see that the prosperity of the wicked is actually their great curse. turns them away from God.

Whereas the one who's suffering and struggling, that's the one who's turning to God. That's the one who doesn't set his heart on this world. And that's the one who is really living for the things above and the things ahead.

And so, yeah, we can get to the point where we wish we were never born. And that's exactly what Job is saying here in verse 3 of chapter 3. He says, Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man's child conceived.

And then he goes on with an extended discourse about the fact that he wished he was a stilter, because it'd be better not to exist than to experience all this pain. And that's an expression of tremendous discouragement. And then he starts out there in verse 20, and he says, Why do I continue to live?

Why do I continue to have life? I wish I could die right now. And so here's a man who is in his discouragement thinking death is better than life.

And, of course, that's not a biblical perspective. Nevertheless, it's where he's at. And there are times when we all are tempted to wish we'd never been born or wish we could die right now.

And, of course, that can lead them to suicidal thoughts. And so it's important that we not go there and that even in the depths of our discouragement and our pain, that we turn to God because if you're still alive, it's because God still has a purpose for you. And that purpose is to use you greatly in the future as a result of, the suffering you're going through in the present as a trophy of His grace, as a sharper tool in the work of the kingdom, and as someone who worships better and is more Christ-like.

All right, we are way out of time. We need to stop here. What a great subject.

What a huge subject. the issue of human suffering and the book of Job wrestles with that and we have to wrestle with that too and understand it Danette would like to acknowledge Brian KJ7PWM and also Will, Ketelite 5 Foxtrot thank you both for being there on the Utah SDR and appreciate you being there with us today alright, are there any final prayer requests before we go to prayer, please come down to call time I have a praise, WB7, is it Al? Roger, give us your praise, go ahead.

I heard one of the most wonderful praises from Bert today for his dear wife of faith, over. Yeah, amen, and you know, sometimes Roger, we're down and our wife lifts us up, sometimes the wife is down and we lift her up, And, you know, the book of Ecclesiastes talks about, you know, if two are together, the one can lift up his brother. But woe to him that is alone.

And so that's why we need a husband or a wife who serves the Lord and can lift us up. That's why we need involvement in the church or with a fellowship of believers like we have here at the West Coast Bible Study. We can lift each other up.

And so, yeah, great praise there, Roger. Go ahead. Yeah, just what a praise.

to praise the Lord for our dear wives like Bert did, or... Right, amen. Let's praise the Lord for our wives who help us in our walk with the Lord.

Uh, got that. Alright, any other prayer requests, please come down. 10K, 6OK.

Jeff, AK6OK, go ahead. Yeah, I've got a story I would love to tell tomorrow. We're out of time.

But I have an unbelievable story about this exact subject that happened to me. And this is one of the stories I tell at Camp Pendleton every single time I'm down there. So we might be able to do that tomorrow morning.

Yeah, Jeff, by all means, I want you to tell that story, and you remind me tomorrow. We'll make time for it, okay? Appreciate that.

All right, any other prayer requests, please come down. All right, let's go to prayer. Our kind and gracious Father, we thank you so much for the book of Job and allowing us to look into this man's life.

and see the struggles he's going through and also see the reasons why he's going through them. And Father, oftentimes human experiences do not have a human explanation. There is instead a supernatural experience.

explanation of things taking place in the spiritual realm that we know nothing about. And Father, that's why we trust you, even when we don't understand you, and we don't understand the why. of what we're going through.

We do understand the hope of what we're going through. And if you see fit to put us in the situation we are in or have gone through or will go through in the future, then, Father, we're content with that. Father, we know the judge of all the earth will do right.

And we can say along with Jesus in Matthew chapter 11, Even so, Lord, for so it seems good in thy sight. And Father, if it's good in your sight, then it's good in ours. Because not only are we not fit to pass judgment on you, we worship you father for your wisdom for your goodness for your grace for your mercy and most of all for your love that drives and motivates what you allow us to come past come to pass in our lives and so when we see who is managing things however they're managed we can be content with that whether we're in a prison cell or whether we're in a palace, whether we're in pain, or whether we're in prosperity.

Father, we just want to worship you and trust you in every circumstance of life. And through the pain, a say, a glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And now, Lord, we have needs.

And, Lord, you already know what these needs are before we ask, but nevertheless, you still want us to ask so that we can express our dependence and so you can have the glory when those prayers are answered. Lord, first of all, as Roger W. B.

said we want to thank you for our marriage partners Lord thank you for our husbands thank you for our wives thank you for the fact that you have brought us into that marriage union and that there are there's great strength in having a husband or a wife who can lift us up out of despair and into Satan and Lord we just thank you for the role that our wives or husbands have played in our lives in provoking us to love and to good works and in bringing us to a biblical and godly perspective on the circumstances in our lives. And so, Father, may we, as a marriage partner... encourage our marriage partners in their walk with the Lord and always turn them to the Lord when they're in a time of discouragement.

Father, we just want to pray today for our brother Ed in 6th century. He's going to be preaching today. and then Father, of course, Roger and Darlene are going to go minister with music and preaching in a church in Northern California.

Lord, I just pray that your good hand would be upon all of those who are ministering the word of God today. Lord, we pray that the Spirit would own and occupy and inhabit and then employ the preaching of the word of God and the worship of the people of God to bring glory to you and growth to them Lord give Ed peace in his heart and power in his words as he shares the scriptures with confidence knowing that your truth is infallible, it is inerrant, and it is sharper than any two-edged sword. May he wield that sword with great skill and effectiveness today.

Father, we just want to give you thanks and praise. Mike W. 17WO told us the daughter.

His ex-wife is doing much better and has returned home. Father, thank you for helping her to regain her health. And I pray that she makes wise choices about the management of her life so that she brings blessing to her body.

Got some morning to do today. Praise the Lord there's no fire danger because of the rain. Lord, I just pray that you would give him freedom from pain so that he can do his outside jobs that he needs to do without being in agonizing pain in his back and his choice.

Father, I just pray for Brother Jeff, a.k.a. Kixoke, who's going to be speaking to these high school students in the future. Lord, give him wisdom and words and open hearts.

who will receive and absorb the lessons that he provides them with as he points them to God and urges them to repent of their sins and follow Jesus as their Savior. Lord, we also want to pray for our brother John at WB7 at WQK. Lord, who has a lot of pain, has a lot of mobility issues, has a lot of health struggles.

Lord you know his needs I pray Lord that you would meet him in that valley of the shadow of pain and that you would bring healing and strength and the ability Father to just carry on and to know your blessing and comfort and peace in his life even in the midst of his difficulties Lord we just want to thank you for Al, KJ722H, this is Jerry and her recovery from her cataract surgery. Thank you that she's seeing better each day. And, Lord, I just pray that she would make a race for her to get a thyroid box sooner rather than later.

Lord, we pray for Will, QI5 Foxtrot. Thank you that he's with us today on the Utah SDR. Lord, I just pray that...

as he gets the results back from his TFA test, that it would come back negative. Father, he's getting that on the 1st of June. And, Lord, I just pray that he would know the joy of the fact that nothing, no cancer is there.

Father, we just want to pray for our brother Mike, KI7RSB, and for safety in travel. on his extended trip through several states, Lord, just continue to be with him, open doors of witness for him, and bring him safely back home. Father, we just pray for our brother Phil, K6HSV, his friend Fred, dying of cancer.

Lord, I just pray that Fred would be filled with faith and joy and peace in believing as he contemplates the end of life and entering into the present. of Jesus. Father, we pray for Martha Fay.

I will. She's like my Foxtrot's wife. She's putting on vacation Bible school next week.

And Lord, I pray for the salvation of the children and their parents. And Father, give the teachers skill and wisdom in preaching the gospel to them. Father, our dear brother, Doc, W6ROJ, I haven't heard from him in a while, but Lord, we know that he's got serious health problems in his kidneys.

He's down in Stanford. The doctors are trying to figure out what's going on with him. I pray, Lord, for a good diagnosis.

and good treatment. And, Father, I just pray that you continue to bless the mission work he's involved in in establishing medical clinics in Fiji so that people can not only have their health needs met, but also hear the gospel. Father, our brother Al, KJ72QH, his church, Fern Ridge Christian Church, needs a pastor.

Lord, I pray that you would reign upon us and provide a good and godly man to shepherd the sheep of God in that church. Father, we continue to pray for Steve, the W7SJ, who has cancer. He's home now.

He's waiting on the doctors to come up with a treatment plan. Lord, I pray that you would provide him with a cure for that cancer. Father, there's no cancer that's so advanced that you can't cure it.

And, Lord, we just pray that you would have mercy on Steve. and that you give Gene a way to ministry to him. Lord, we just want to pray for the silent multitude who listen to the Westminster Bible study.

Lord, we know there's lots of folks who tune in and listen. Father, they have the Lord's grace. meet their needs, bless them, build them up in the faith, and bring them closer to Jesus.

Father, we just want to pray for Brian K.J. Sutton, PWM, and his old friend, Chris. Lord, who is hard and distant, and yet, Lord, we know that you can break that hard heart of his.

And Lord, I pray for Chris's salvation. I pray that you would help him. that you would be open to Brian's ministry.

And Lord, I pray that you would just cause him to give Brian a call, and may they be able to talk about the things of the Lord because you've gone from Christ's heart. Father, I just continue to pray for Brother Jeff, aka 6OK, and his ongoing Bible distribution, soldiers, and the installation of chapels and Navy ships. Father, thank you that Bibles are on the way, And Father, may soldiers become saved through the chapel services.

We think especially the soldiers on the USS Tripoli. And Father, we ask that you would draw each one closer to yourself. Lord, we pray for peace.

in Iraq. We pray for peace in Iran. We pray for peace in Ukraine.

We pray for peace in Gaza, Father, and other places in the world. We think of our dear Christian brethren in Nigeria who are just being constantly slaughtered by the Muslims. Lord, have mercy on our brethren.

I pray that you would destroy Islam in Nigeria. and that, Father, you would cause that evil and wicked religion and practice to be pushed back and pushed out of that country. Lord, preserve and protect your people.

Father, I just want to pray today for the wisdom and spiritual protection for our pastors of our churches. some are preaching today some tomorrow Lord I pray that you would just cause each one to know your grace and mercy and Father may they accurately represent your truth and may they bring great blessings to your people Father I just want to pray for my pastor, Dr. Jeff Black, for that you would heal him of his colitis.

Amen....MXVet Control for the West Coast Bible Study. I want to thank all the cases we checked in this morning and those who stood by to give us a clear operating frequency. Really appreciate Michael...

Kilo November 6th, Longwood X-Ray, X-Ray from Carmichael checking in today. Michael, thank you for being here, and hopefully bank conditions will be a little better tomorrow. This is WB7MAX.

We just wanted to not only thank all the stations you checked in, but also those who stood by to give us a clear operating frequency. We meet here seven days a week at 6:00 a.m. in order to read prescriptions.

understand their meeting message and application, and then pray for grace and mercy to live out what we learn and for God to meet the needs of those that are in our circle of fellowship. I'll be returning to frequency now to regular amateur use. This is WB7MX.

I'll be clear and standing by. Is that example? Kevin.

Kevin, KBS 7 Zetiksen. Go ahead. Thanks for the relay.

Yeah, thanks for the relay, Becky. I was just going to ask real quick, Max, how Jeff, your pastor, is doing there? Is he hopefully getting better?

He's not getting better at all. He's actually gotten worse. They moved him up in the queue, and so he is now going to get a colonoscopy this Thursday.

We just need to pray that he'll be sustained until then. He's a veteran, and so he's getting care from the VA. Okay.

That's always kind of slow, as those who are veterans know, which really angers me. Our soldiers should have the very best care. Right.

Instead, it seems like they have some of the worst. But leaving that aside, Kevin, thank you. Continue to pray fervently for Pastor Jeff Black because he is losing weight like crazy, and he can't...

Yeah, Kevin, thank you for that. All right, and Beck, thank you so much for that relay. Without that, I would have never known he was there.

Beck, Alpha 05 Yankee, go ahead. Oh, okay. Did you want me to say this morning's joke?

Yeah, please do. Okay. How do you make an egg roll?

Go for it. Well, the old guy went back into the doctor and he was all happy and so that's a doctor on the back and says, Hey, Doc, how's it going? And doctors, man, you're looking good.

He says, This is the best I've seen you since you've been coming. says what have you been doing he says well doctor I just took your advice said what advice was that he said we told me to be cheerful and get a hot mama the doctor said no I told you to be careful you've got a heart murmur that was a good Yeah, sometimes being hard of hearing results in different outcomes, doesn't it? I can relate to that.

That reminds me of the other guy that was hard of hearing, you know, and finally went into the doctor and... Well, the doctor just realized there was blockage in there and cleared out his ears. And anyway, went back for a follow-up a couple weeks later and the doctor says, "Everything's still good to your hearing?" And he says, "Yeah, I hear great." And he says, "Well, what does your family think about it now that you can hear?" He said, "Oh, I haven't told them yet, but I've changed my will three times." Yeah, that's good.

Yeah, when people think we can't hear, they'll say things that they would never say if they thought we were hearing what they were saying. So anyway, you know, that's one of the things I always try to do. I mean, leaving the joke aside, is say, you know, would I say this if that person were standing in front of me?

And if I wouldn't, then maybe I shouldn't ought to be saying it. So anyway, that joke has some good moral... guidance in it there.

Go ahead, Kevin. Well, Max, you know, joking aside, you're absolutely right. And that's something I worked on my whole life is try to keep that.

And sometimes I failed, but try to keep that same speech. What I would say to them personally and face to face, not to say, you know, when they're not present, and you're absolutely correct. KB7 is that extent.

Five Yankee? Five Yankee. Yeah, I'm definitely a failure when it comes to it too, but I try and always keep one rule in mind and that is what would Jesus say?

Yeah, amen. What would he say about this situation? Because, you know, we need to say what he would say.

If he thinks it's sin, then we need to say it's sin. If he thinks it's good, we need to say it's good. So...

echoing the voice of Jesus in each situation requires that we know what his mind is on those situations. And that's why it says in Philippians 2, let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. So that then the words we say would be the words that Jesus would say.

Excellent filter there, Beck. I really appreciate that. Back to you.

- Yeah, Rod, the hard part is, though, when you feel personally

========== ### Scripture Reading (KJV)

Then said Job, Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived. Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it. Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it. (Job 3:3-5)

### Study Summary

The Bible study focused on Job 3, where Job laments the day of his birth, expressing deep sorrow and questioning why he was born to suffer. The passage is a poignant reflection of Job's emotional turmoil, as he faces severe trials and loss. The group discussed Job's character, noting his maturity and faithfulness to God, even in the face of immense suffering.

Kevin (KB7ZXN) distinguished between despair and discouragement, emphasizing that Job's lament is a legitimate expression of his pain and not condemned by God. Jeff (AK6OK) highlighted the importance of not blaming God for suffering, a crucial theological point in understanding Job's situation. Bert (W7RKD) shared a personal testimony about being sifted by God, drawing parallels to Job's experience.

The study also delved into the broader theological reflections on God's providence and purpose in allowing suffering. Participants noted that those who suffer the most are often used the most by God, a perspective that underscores the transformative power of trials. Understanding God's character was seen as key to responding positively to trials, as it provides a framework for faith and endurance.

The discussion concluded with prayer requests for various individuals and situations, emphasizing God's grace, mercy, and wisdom in difficult circumstances. The closing prayer focused on seeking God's guidance and strength in times of trial, reflecting the overarching theme of the study.

Max (WB7MAX) thanked the participants for their contributions and encouraged continued prayer and Bible study. The session was marked by a blend of serious reflection and light-hearted moments, creating a supportive and engaging environment for learning and fellowship. ==========
