Good morning, Keith. How you doing? Alright, real good, Keith.
We got you checked in. Appreciate you being there. Alright, any other check-ins please come now.
Kilo India 7, Romeo, Sierra Bravo. Kilo India 7, Sierra Romeo Bravo, KI7RSB, that is Mike. And Mike, how are you doing with your travels?
Come back to me. Well, we're doing good. We're still.
We've been here a week now in partner. When today is our last day, we're going to get up and hit back home tomorrow morning. And we're going to stop off for a couple of days at Goldberg Station.
Do some ham radio from there and then we're going to head on back. We love you. Alright, real good.
Sounds like things are going well for you. And we got you checked in and we continue to pray for safety in your travels. And real glad for you.
So, Mike, thank you for being there at KI-7RSB operating remotely. Alright, any other check-ins please come now. So you said in the after you said you have a friend off now, if you have a date.
Yeah, I sure do. The addition is, you know, we've got Jeff AK6OK on the list there, but we want to be sure and pray for his grandson Noah, N-O-A-H, just like the Noah in the Bible, Noah and the ark, and his girlfriend, just for their repentance and return to the Lord. They're off in the weeds right now.
And they need some God to get a hold of them and to turn them back to himself. So that's Jeff, AK6OK, his grandson Noah and his girlfriend. Appreciate that.
Copy? Copy that. Thank you for that, Jerry.
Appreciate it. Okay, WB7MAX here, Net Control for the West Coast Follow-Up Study, looking for check-ins. Please come down.
Okay, little Mike 5 Fox, cut. And there's Will, KM5F. Good morning, Will.
How are you doing? Oh, doing better. I may be listening only for a few minutes.
I'm going to go ahead and get back to you. Okay, good. I'm going to go ahead and get back to you.
Okay, good. I'm going to go ahead and get back to you. Okay, good.
about a week because we've got some company and they're downstairs where my radio is. So I'll be using the SDRs on my computer, KM5S. Copy that.
Understand, Will. I'll pick you up off the SDRs and check you in that way and know that you'll be a listener because you've got company. Head in 6XOH has got company.
So, yep, understand. Got to have a quiet house. And you know, that's the thing, my ham radio room is down the hall from our bedroom, nevertheless.
I am noisy enough so that there's no way my wife could ever sleep through the night, which is good because we want her awake and listening, right? Yep, got the look there. All right, any other check-ins, please come now.
Mark, KJ7PVT, good to hear from you, brother. How are you doing? All right.
yeah copy that glad you were here yesterday and able to listen in and uh yep uh bank conditions are pretty good right now so able to copy what you said and appreciate you being there mark um yeah we're in the book of joe As you're aware, we're going to be looking at Chapter 2, verses 1 to 10 today, Job Chapter 2, verses 1 to 10. So all of you might want to open your Bibles to that and be prepared for that. All right, I see Brian, KJ7PWM.
Good morning, Brian. Good to see you there on the Utah SDR. All right, let's see.
Who else do we have? All right. WB7VZL.
All right, there is Roger, WB7VZL. Good morning, Roger. Good to have you with us.
How are you doing? Quite good. Well, good.
I'm glad to hear that. The net would also like to acknowledge Gene, K7GWR. Gene, good to have you with us as well.
Why don't I... What's going on here? Give me a second.
All right, Gene, I got you written down. For some reason, your call sign didn't show up on my list for a minute there. So I got Gene, K7GWR listening in off of the Utah SDR.
Okay. Any other check-ins? Please come now.
All right, I'm just looking over my STRs, and I think I've got OKF7UOQ. There's Joe. Joe, good to have you with us.
I haven't seen you in a little bit, and so glad that you're back. Joe, we are in Job chapter 2, the book of Job, Old Testament. So I appreciate you turning there and joining us.
That's Joe, KF7UOQ. All right, any other check-ins, please come now. Alright, this is WB7MX.
We're going to start our Bible study. Oh, there's Carol, KK7TPO. You guys checking in at the last minute on the SDRs.
Carol, KK7TPO, see you there. Alright, real good. We want to include everyone on the net here.
All right, so, yep, okay, I think we got everyone now. All right, this is WB7MAX, net control for the West Coast Bible Study. We are in the book of Job, Chapter 2.
verses 1 through 10. And what we saw in chapter 1 is that God allowed Job, his faithful servant, to be put through a very severe test. And we saw that the reason for that was for the glory of God, for the good of Job, and for the defeat of Satan, and for the blessing of the people of God all down through the centuries following who have access to the book.
And in this book, we're given a little behind-the-scenes peek at the dynamics that oftentimes inform what happens to us in our personal lives. All we see is what's happening to us in our personal lives we don't have access to, the behind-the-scenes activities in the spiritual realm. that are the source of the things that happen to us in our lives.
But we're given books like Job and books like the book of Revelation, which help us to see that behind every physical event that occurs in our lives, there is a spiritual dynamic at work there in which God is working out his purposes. He's saving his people. He's destroying the works of the devil.
He's building his kingdom. And he is proclaiming and revealing his glory. through all that's being done.
So oftentimes we just have to trust. I was thinking a minute ago about Jerry, Al and Jerry, KJ7QQH. Jerry has one bad eye, and she had cataract surgery on the other eye, and so Al was having to be her guide dog, hold her hand, right, and lead her around because she couldn't see there for a while.
She's doing better now, but she just had to trust Al. And when he held her hand and said, you know, go this way, don't go that way, it's because he knew there was something there that she couldn't see. And that's the way it is in our life.
God is, as it were, holding our hand. He's guiding us through difficult circumstances. And he's saying to us, this needs to happen or you need to experience that.
And we're going, "Why? I can't see the reason for that." And it's like, "You just have to trust me. I'm telling you this is the path I have for you." And in the end, when fully you can see and look back, you'll be glad for the way in which I led you, including the difficult circumstances that occurred in your life.
And so adversity is something that God plans for us, and it's something that He leads us into and out of. I think of Jesus telling the disciples to get in the ship and sail across the Sea of Galilee when He knew there was a storm coming. And He's asleep in the ship, right?
The storm comes. and they're about to drown, and they wake him up, and they say, Help, Lord, we perish. He rebukes the wind and the waves, and they get safe to the other side.
Well, he purposely led them into a storm, sustained them during the storm, and brought them out of the storm. And all of that, as they look back on it, is praise the Lord for that experience. It revealed to us who Jesus was.
the weakness that we have, and the fact that we can always rely on His love, care, and power to get us through the storms of life. So this thing plays out over and over again, and we're going to see that in Job's life. You know, you'd think that when he goes through this terrible experience in chapter 1, that he'd come out the other side and that'd be it.
Well, no. It happens again, only worse. And so just because we've gone successfully through a trial doesn't mean we're not going to have another one.
We're going to learn about that today. Well, I've rambled on here long enough. We need to open in prayer.
Steve, W6YSI, could you open in prayer for us this morning, please? Sure. Let us bow before the throne of grace.
Father, we just want to thank you, praise you, worship you, because you're worthy and because we're a needy people. Lord, we bow before your word this morning once again, the word knowing that there is manna from heaven, that we need it. need to understand.
I'm thinking of this marvelous book he's given us right now, the book of Job. And in the 28th chapter, God is saying to us, "Where can wisdom be found?" And where is the place of understanding? Then again, at the end of this chapter, He's saying to the man, Man, he said, behold, fear of the Lord.
That is wisdom, to depart from evil, to understand him. O God, help us this day, that we might truly fear you. in a righteous manner with the understanding that we need to have peace in our hearts here.
Oh God, if you can just depart some people. Oh Lord, we look at ourselves and we see that there is wickedness in our hearts. And that we need to have that justice.
We ask, O God, that thy word today be at work in our hearts. We ask these things in Jesus' name. Amen.
Amen, Steve. Thank you so much for that prayer. Really appreciate that a lot.
Okay, back out on Popeye's Yankee. You want to read for us today? I'm kind of springing on this, just knowing you at the last second.
Can you read for us back over? Yeah, no problem. What do you want me to read?
Okay, I want you to read Job chapter 2, verses 1 through 13. That's the entire second chapter of Job. If you could read for us, Beck, I'd sure appreciate that.
Sure. Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee. And again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord.
And Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord. And the Lord said to Satan, "From where do you come?" Satan answered the Lord and said, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it." And the Lord said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant job?" that there is none like him on the earth, and blameless and upright man, and who fears God and shuns evil, and still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him. Oops.
Hold on. My computer messed up. And destroy him.
I'm trying to find where I was. Without cause. I'm sorry.
Verse 4. So Satan answered the Lord and said, skin for skin. Yes, all that a man has, he will give for his life.
But stretch out your hand now and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse you to your face. And the Lord said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life. So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and struck Job.
with painful boils from the sole on his foot to the crown of his head. And he took himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself while he sat in the midst of the ashes. Then his wife said to him, Do you still hold fast to your integrity?
Curse God and die. But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from the God, and shall we not accept adversity?
And all this Job did not sin with his lips. Now when Job's three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, each one came from his own place, Eliphaz and Timante, Baladad and Shuite. and Zophar and Naama, Masite, for they had made an appointment together to come and mourn him and to comfort him.
And when they raised their eyes from afar and did not recognize him, they lifted their voices and wept. And each one tore his robe and sprinkled dust on his head towards Haman. So that they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him.
And they saw that this grief was very great. I'll file for five Yankee. Back to that.
That great reading, thank you for that. Really appreciate that. Well, this is quite the narrative.
Any comments on this section, please come down with your call time. Is that a 10-8-6-0-K? Alright, we had a double there.
First of all, we'll go with Mark, KJ7PVT. Mark, go ahead. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you. yeah mark thanks for making that connection for those who were unable to hear mark uh mark was talking about how that when job's friends showed up um It says in verse 12 of Job 2:12, "And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, they knew him not.
They lifted up their voice and wept, and they rent everyone his mantle and sprinkled dust on their heads." And so the idea here is that because Job is sitting in the dust, because he's covered with boils, because his head is shaved, because of clothing is ripped and of course he's covered with these stores he's almost unrecognizable and then mark connected that with Isaiah chapter 52 and it says of Jesus In verse 14, "And many were astonished at thee: his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men." And the fact that because of the effect of sin, Job was brought very low. And even his appearance was distorted and corrupted. And that is a foreshadowing of Jesus and how that he was beaten beyond recognition.
People couldn't even recognize Christ's face because of the thorn of crowns and the blood and the beatings. and the dehydration and all the things he was experiencing there on the cross. And the parallel between these two events is that sin causes suffering and sin causes disfigurement.
And it's going to be a wonderful day when sin is entirely removed from our experience. And you know, all of us have suffered a degrading of our physical appearance because of the effects of sin. We wrinkle, we wind up walking a little stooped over, maybe we stagger a little because we got a bad hip or whatever.
All of that's going to be fixed in the resurrection. But for now, what we see in our passage is the work of Satan. And the work of Satan is one of killing and stealing and destroying all those who are impacted by his work.
And we see that in the life of Job, and we see that in the life of our Lord Jesus. Mark, KJ7PVT, thank you for making that connection. Any follow-up there, Mark?
Go ahead. Thank you. Thank you.
Yeah, so Mark was saying, I didn't get it all, but he was saying that Job was brought right to the edge of death. And I think that's exactly true. All right, Jeff, AK6OK, we've held you up for a minute here.
You had a comment. Jeff, please go ahead. Yeah, it's interesting that in 2, the same thing happened when Satan came to the Lord and the Lord said, "Have you considered my servant Job?" So this sounds like round 2.
which is really interesting. It's almost word for word identical, over. Yes, it is round two.
It is identical and it's like, "Okay, Satan, I've proven my point. My servant Job loves me for who I am, not for what I have given him," because that was the slander. And so Satan says, oh, no, you know, he hasn't been tested enough yet.
Let's turn the heat up, and then he will curse you to your face. You wouldn't let me touch his body last time, just his possessions and his children. And so God says, "Okay, we'll take this to the next step, and we'll prove you a liar a second time." One of the things we know is that Satan is a liar and the father of it.
His name "devil" means "flanderer." And so that's what he does. He falsely accuses us of all sorts of things. and God is saying in essence standing up for his servants defending us and saying not true and you know if God be for us who can be against us and that's the good news who is he that condemns you know it is God who justifies and so God's looking at his servant he knows who he is he knows his character he knows his maturity, he knows his commitment he knows his loyalty and so so He is basically saying to Satan, look, you lost.
And Satan goes, oh, well, let's step up the heat. And God's saying, okay, we'll see how it goes the second time. So, yeah, Jeff, this is round two, no question about it.
And what it tells us is that just because we had a severe trial doesn't mean we're not going to have another one. But just as God sustained Job through the first trial, God is going to sustain Job through the second one as well because he will not suffer us to be tested above that which we are able, but will with the testing provide a way of escape. And that's the encouragement, that whatever God puts you through, his grace will carry you through.
Because you don't go through this stuff alone. And if God allows some hardship and difficulty to come into your life, he also increases the level of grace that you need to get through that. And it's just like when Paul prayed and asked God to take out the thorn of the flesh.
God says, I'm not going to take it away, but I'm going to give you a whole bunch of grace to be able to deal with it. And of course, Paul said, yes, that's the case. When I'm weak, then I'm strong because the less capacity I have to deal with this, the greater the capacity of God in dealing with it that is revealed in my life.
Jeff, great comment. All right, other comments from the passage. Please come down.
ZXM. Kevin, KB7ZXM, please go ahead. KB7ZXN, well I should just sit here quiet because you made a couple of my points already there, Max.
Very well said. And great comments and points there too. You know, it is interesting.
This is round two and we see here, you know, as this council reconvenes, if you will, I God again points out, have you considered my servant Job? And, you know, but one of the things that points out here too in this text is the, it goes from the external to the internal, if you will, to the physical, personal. And he lost everything around him everything that god had blessed him with if you will uh as far as uh family and and and uh uh fortune but uh now he's attacking him internally physically but uh uh One of the points, too, it's important, I think, to know that even God here makes a point that his suffering was without cause.
It was not by anything that Job had done. that brought this on and in the ancient world and even in the world today so many times people will think that suffering and uh it's synonymous with it must be something you've done it must be karma it must be well you know sometimes we we do reap what we sow and that is a principle of god But suffering does not equate to cause of our own doings. And so this is a factor as we go forward here in understanding.
But as you pointed out, 1 Corinthians 10, 13. God puts limits on this suffering, and he does not put a burden on beyond what he can maintain here. And the other thing, I'm glad you mentioned Isaiah 52, 14, and also Isaiah 53, 4, actually 1 through 12, but Isaiah 53, 4 are also in this, in that there is one...
that suffered greater there is one that was marred greater and and and he gave himself a ransom for us but joe's faithfulness he went from uh the most uh blessed man as far as uh what he had now he's lost everything and not only that he's cast away sitting at the garbage dump if you will with a shard of broken pottery scraping these abscesses and sores on his body from head to toe and in the ash heaps he's an outcast in his own land now even his wife says look enough is enough curse God and be done with it and you know and it's hard to be too critical of hearth when you consider About what the loss is she and that's how many would react I mean she lost everything she lost her family. She lost her home. She lost now she's losing her husband and and and she's at her breaking point, but God but job here and One thing the devil doesn't recognize, and you touched on this too, Max, is God's grace.
You know, what the devil doesn't recognize is Job is faithful not because of what God does for him, but because who God is. And that's how God's grace works in his people, is we recognize who God is. And even here, through all of this suffering, which he did not bring on himself, he recognizes he's faithful to God for who God is.
KB7, is that acceptable? Yeah, Kevin, you made several really good points there. And I think that, you know, you mentioned Job's wife and her response.
And I think that that's really important to observe, after he goes through all of this, verse 9, Then said his wife to him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die. But he said to her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh.
What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God? and shall we not receive evil?
And all this did not Job sin with his lips. And so, you know, the difference between Job and his wife is that she responded with emotion and feelings He responded with principle and with theological perspective. He was objective and rational.
She was subjective and short-sighted. And this really exemplifies the two kinds of responses that people display in the face of negative providential circumstances in their life. Job was operating on the basis of truth.
and she was operating on the basis of feelings. Anybody want to make any comments about these two different reactions, where they arise from, and which of them we ought to exercise when we're facing great negative providences? Please come now if you're called.
All right. AK-6OK. That's AK-6OK.
Go ahead. You know, Max, I'm looking at Haley's Bible Handbook about this passage. So interesting.
Talking about the three friends. Friends. and their perspectives on what happened here and they all tried to explain away in human terms uh job is uh suffering and god is just and would not allow a person to suffer without reason therefore job must have done something wrong bad to deserve this and um Before his friends came, Job refused to blame God.
The Lord gave and the Lord taketh away. May the name of the Lord be praised. And, of course, where he said, shall we accept good from God and not trouble?
But the more Job defends himself against the logic of his friends, the more he adopts their approach and feels... his own argument, "I'm suffering, I know that I've done nothing to deserve this," and the logical conclusion would be that, therefore, God must be unjust. But Job never quite draws that final conclusion.
Rather, it is, "Therefore, God has him some explaining to do." I think that's well said. And there's a second half to my comment. Go ahead.
Yeah, Jeff, that is excellent analysis of how this conversation unfolds, the arguments that are used, and the responses that are given. Really well said. Go ahead there, Jeff.
The second half is in 2011 I had throat cancer. And when I went to the oncologist the first couple of times, he explained to me, we are going to do chemo and we're going to do radiation. We're going to bring you right to the point of death and then bring you back.
I was not concerned because I knew the Lord would make it work out one way or another. Either I would be healed or I would go to heaven. And that's exactly what happened through seven weeks of radiation, which was difficult.
Oh man, I don't want to see anybody go through all that. And then the chemo and everything. And a lot of things happened to my body that have not come back.
For example, I've lost about two-thirds of my teeth. But you know what? I can eat soup.
I'm just grateful to be alive. But is that not kind of similar to what's going on here? What was the reason for the cancer?
Well, I didn't do anything wrong to deserve that. But I'm a blessed man, and I have a story to tell now that not many people have. And I've died three times.
I've got quite a story. and I've been through cancer, and by the way, I'm fully healed of cancer. I've had heart attacks.
I've had strokes. And doggone it, I'm still here, over. Yeah, amen.
And that's what God does. A lot of times, Jeff, He brings us to the brink of death and allows tremendous suffering to come into our lives so that we will have a story to tell. of his glory so we will have the opportunity to demonstrate a genuine saving faith which would rather die than give up our love for god and our faith in god and we see that with job here you know later on in the book he says though he slay me yet will i trust him and we'll get to that passage uh eventually But the bottom line is here, he didn't understand what God was doing, and he was suffering tremendously under God's providences.
But at the same time, he wasn't about to abandon his faith in God, nor his belief in the principles of God's justice. and of God's wisdom and of God's righteousness in the way in which he was dealing with him. And you really see that in his reaction here in verse 10 when he says to his wife, What, shall we receive good at the hand of God and shall we not receive evil?
And all this did not Job sin with his lips. And what he's saying here is, look, we've received a great deal of good from God, and we deserve none of it. And if we receive some judgment from God, which we deserve far more of than what we actually have because of our sins, Is this to be looked upon as something strange or abnormal?
And so rather than cursing God, as his wife counseled him to do, we should be cursing Satan and sin, because that's what has brought all the misery into the world. And we should curse our own folly and our own sins, which subjects us to the chastisements of God. But to curse God is ridiculous.
God has given to us far more goodness than we deserve. He's given us far less misery than we ought to have because of our sinfulness. And if he does then give us a little bit of misery, should we be surprised?
Should we not justify God in saying this is less than what I deserve? I remember my dear brother Roger, WB7VZL, asked me, how are you doing? He says, better than I deserve, right?
And the point he's making here is what he deserves is a place in hell because of his sinfulness. If he has anything better than that, no matter how great the suffering is, is still better than what he deserves. And so he has this attitude of thankfulness even in the face of negative circumstances.
So the point is this. Faith and reason and sound theology will carry us through. and give us a right perspective and a right response, which is something that emotion and feelings will never do.
And so Job's wife here forgot her theology. She was just reacting emotionally, and Job corrects that and expresses a proper perspective here. And so, Jeff, you know, AK6OK, you look back at all your suffering that you went through, you know, the near-death experiences, the heart attacks, the strokes, the cancer.
And what was God doing in all of that? He was refining you. He was bringing glory to himself.
He was taking you to the next level of faith and trust and maturity. And now here you are, able to give glory to God and praise to God in a way you never could have had you not gone through those circumstances. And so that's the blessing is that God means these things for good.
to us and for his glory and he means these things for the defeat of Satan and his lies and slander and that's just how we process the terrible things that happen to us alright any other comments anybody wants to make or any follow up please come now QQH Al KJ7QQH go ahead looking again at verse 9 I was just noticing that it looks like Job's wife was in on the test in order to but he remains of his misery he just had to curse God and die so how I didn't swear at that. Yeah, well, you're right. She was being tested here, too, and she failed the test, bottom line.
Her counsel was, you need to turn on God. You need to hate God. You need to curse God or reject God.
And that's the response that an unconverted heart has. You know, when people are saved and they go through misery, you know, they cry, they question, but they never reject God. They don't understand what God is doing.
They cry out in anguish. We see that in the book of Psalms constantly. Right.
But you never see them going apostate. You never see them turning their back on God. They just humble themselves under God.
And they wait on God for deliverance. But they never accuse God of doing wrong or evil. And basically what Job's wife was doing here is she was accusing God of being evil.
And it's like, we don't want anything to do with this God. If this is what God's going to do, we're done with him. That's what Ted Turner did, you know, who was a multi-billionaire, head of CNN.
I think I told you his story the other day, where he was raised in a Christian home. His sister got cancer. He prayed she would be healed.
She didn't get healed. She died. And at about 20 years of age, he turned his back on God and cursed God and cursed God his whole life.
And now he's dead. Whereas I believe his sister is in heaven. In any event, Job corrects his wife.
And, you know, there's a time when we have to correct our spouse when they have bad theology, when they have stinking thinking, when they're saying things that are completely out of harmony with God's truth. and with reality and uh joe did that he did he wasn't mean he wasn't nasty he wasn't vindictive uh but uh he did say you know you're acting foolishly in this situation here's the theological and rational perspective we need to have on this providential circumstance so uh yeah back to you i'll go ahead yeah that's right for her and she failed it well we hope she repented Obviously, they continue to be married, because at the end of the book, he has a bunch more children. He has another seven sons and another three daughters.
And we'll talk about that when we get there. So, you know, a lot of times, people in the midst of anguish will fail. We see Peter doing that, right?
He denies the Lord. I know not the man, right? And then the cock crowed and he went out and wept bitterly.
And that's what I believe happened with Job's wife. You know, after he corrected her, she repented and got right and continued in the marriage and continued in the faith. and I trust that we'll see her in heaven.
So, you know, under tremendous emotional duress, under tremendous physical pain, people can go off the rails. And if they do, you know, the solution is not to affirm them. The solution is to gently say to them, "That's not the kind of thinking you want to have in this situation.
That's not the direction you want to go." and give them sound theology, give them rational reasoning and logic, and lead them out of those false conclusions that Satan wants them to arrive at. And even though Job was suffering tremendously, he still thought of his wife and ministered to her in the midst of his own suffering. So think of Jesus being on the cross, right?
And even though he's undergoing tremendous suffering, he's ministering to the thief on the cross. He's ministering to his mother, providing for her care in her old age. And that's what Job is doing here, too.
So in many respects, the sufferings of Job reflect an echo, the sufferings of Christ, as Mark KJ7PVT brought out, and are a foreshadowing of a just man suffering unjustly because of the sins of others, and yet still ministering in the face of his own suffering to the needs of those that are around him. All right, other comments? Please come down.
Thank you. Okay, we had a double there. I heard Mark, KJ7PVT.
Mark, go ahead. Yeah, Mark well said. Yeah, Mark was just saying that Job was right with God, but perhaps his wife and children were more invested in the riches.
because Job's making sacrifice for their sins, and of course we know that his wife didn't respond well. And you know, that's true, Mark. It takes great maturity to be able to handle great riches and maintain godliness.
Wealth is far more of a temptation than poverty. Right. and it's far more difficult to be able to maintain a sound, humble spirituality and walk with Jesus and keep our focus on the right priorities.
When we're wealthy, then it does when we're poor. All right, there was another station on top of Mark that had a comment. Another station, please come now.
As an example. W7RKD. We've got Kevin and Bert.
Okay, we've got Kevin and Bert. Okay, thank you for that. Bert, W7RKD, you go ahead.
I tried getting in there with Marco. Yeah, I'm reminded, I try to remind myself this. Humility is really important in our walk with Christ.
We just got done reading this out of what Apostle Paul says, and he reminds us. just the job is reminding us um through Colossians 3 12 therefore as the elective God holy and beloved put on tender mercy kindness humility meekness long suffering inside I was talking with Danny earlier uh He didn't mean no suffering. He didn't mean short suffering.
He said long suffering. Yeah. You know, we suffer, well, you know, from day one, I believe.
And we're walking that way and we find our hope in Christ. The suffering is not as great as it was. But we saw a bunch of stuff, you know.
and uh, releasing the one thing that's new is that, uh, the amount of fuel that's on the RRT, the fuel that's on the RRT, the fuel that's on the RRT, that is going to be the fuel energy that's being put into the 42-horse. And if you're taking any fuel out, um and that's how I tell you what's good. I don't know if it's better than Kim, but, you know, more to come.
But I'm going to do it with joy. I'm going to do it to welcome my father. You know, because I know my reward all right Appreciate that, Bert, W7RTD.
I lost you somewhat in the mud there, but, yeah, Bert was tying, you know, this situation with Job to Colossians 3 and verse 12, where it talks about that we should practice long-suffering. And the idea is that suffering is a part of our lives. We have to suffer long.
But Bert was saying that our blessings are so much greater than our sufferings. And that's something to be thankful for. Beck, Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee, can you fill in any blanks there on what I said about what Bert had to say?
Go ahead there, Beck. No, sir. You pretty much got the gist of it there.
Okay. I cannot further it. Roger?
Okay, thank you for that. Bert, sorry I wasn't able to hear everything, but thank you for reminding us that our blessings are greater than our suffering. Okay, we're way out of time.
I know Kevin had a comment. Just save that for tomorrow. We're six minutes over the time when we should be starting prayer.
Don't mean to cut anybody off. It's a big subject, and we'll return to it tomorrow. Okay, WB7MAX here.
Any final prayer requests before Jerry leads us in prayer? Please come with your call time. Is that X-raying?
Zedek Sin, you had a prayer request. Go ahead. Yeah, I just ask us all to be in prayer for Steve today.
I know he's going through quite a bit right now. And if you think of it, just keep him in your heart today in prayer. KB7, Zedek Sin.
Yeah, thanks for that. So Kevin was saying we should pray for Steve, W6YSI, going through a lot, dealing with his mom and other things as well. So let's pray for Steve, W6YSI.
Copy there, Jerry, AE70R? Say again, please. Okay, so Kevin, KB7ZXN asked us to pray for Steve, W6YSI, and just all the issues he's going through in his life.
Copy? Check out. All right, Jerry, go ahead and lead us in prayer, please.
Father, please, our Father in heaven, we pray for this morning for another day, and we ask you this day for your mercy as we go through our activity. As we start W70. WCW traveling to pick up an excavator.
We ask for safe travel for him. John W7WQK. Pain, mobility, and health issues.
Please release. Al, W7WQA. - Hi, Kiki.
We are at the University of W.E.W. 12 and you'll see us today. We'll come by there.
- Hi, David. It's me, I think that. - Great for wisdom and treatment options.
- My experience at my RFC, they see a problem with the senior coach in the federal system. and the church is preaching to you. His own son is dying this morning.
Christ our neighbor, passed away on the island of Jacob. Your parents are alive. His wife is sitting on vacation by his church, teaching the church.
His own son is teaching you. He said the salvation you need is here to be seen. I'm going to tell you.
God, let me say this, I will tell you. Christ is the Savior, the salt of our sins, that's going to continue up at the service. And we pray for salvation to be done for the city of Jesus.
All right, Debbie, say the name of Jesus. Pray for the salvation of David and of Francis. May the mercy of the Lord come to the face of John, and the mercy of the Lord.
Yeah, this is just the beginning. Yeah. and also autumn autumn um You think you will like Good night.
and some of the like. Please, indeed, keep us all well in touch and may I say to you, Jesus, amen. Amen.
This is WB70. Jerry, A70R, thank you for that prayer. This is WB70, may I ask for net control for the West Coast Bible Study.
Now, we'd like to acknowledge J.R., K6LBP. J.R. has been with us forever.
I've seen him on the... Utah SDR way back in the beginning of the net, but I keep omitting, acknowledging his check-in. JR, thank you for being with us, and appreciate you pulling up a chair around the roundtable.
All right. This is WB7MX. I want to thank all the stations who checked in this morning and those who stood by to give us a clear operating frequency.
We meet here seven days a week at 6 a.m. in order to read the scriptures understand their meaning message and application, and then pray for grace and mercy to be able to live out what we learn and for God to meet the needs of those that are in our circle of fellowship. I'll be returning this frequency now to regular amateur use.
This is WB7MX. I'll be clear and standing by. Let's see.
Dave, I see you there now on the Utah STR. Thank you for that. All right.
Sometimes I don't pay attention to things the way I should. Forgive me for that. All right.
I am clear and standing by. Beck, you got a joke for us today? Yes, sir, I do.
What did the horse say after he tripped and fell? What did the horse say after he tripped and fell? I tripped over my shoe?
Help, I've fallen and I can't giddy up. Help, I've fallen and I can't giddy up. Yeah, that's good.
Yep. And anyway, those who have horses for sure get that. All right, thank you, Beck, for the good laugh.
All right, any other comments anybody wants to make, please connote your call time. Roger, please go ahead. I wanted to share with you what I was able to barely, but I was able to hear, Beck, incredible metaphor about Job.
He made a tremendous experience as if he personally has been involved with temporary and quenching and sharpening and examining the process of making a steel blade with an edge that can be retained. So he elaborated with great, wonderful... detail of what kind of like a blacksmith shop who's famous for making sure the farmers have decent blades for plowing but anyway he i was very impressed we got to hear that again from himself but it was the metaphor he applied it to himself that god is like the blacksmith shop and he is the blacksmith and tempering us.
Over. Yeah, amen. And, you know, that whole metaphor, the blacksmith, you know, we find that in 1 Peter, in chapter 1 there, where Peter says, the trial of your faith being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire...
might be found in the praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. And so, yeah, the blacksmith heats metal up. He beats it into a sharp edge.
He quenches it to temper it. And it has to go through a tremendous molding and forming and shaping under pressure and heat. in order for it to be a useful tool.
And so God, as it were, is the great blacksmith, and he forges us through circumstances and through instruction and through the work of his spirit into the image of his son. And that's a process. It's an ongoing process, and it's a fiery process.
But in the end, we come forth as pure gold. So, Roger, great metaphor. Certainly echoes the scriptures, and it certainly applies in our lives.
Back to you there, Roger. Yeah, well, it's all back. So, I mean, birth, that was birth.
that metaphor so yeah when you can communicate with him you can share and affirm him in that scriptural parallel too but yeah it was very interesting it was almost as if he's done that and he said I want God to do this to me and he didn't use the phrase bring it on but He is very, very strong in the sense that he trusts God implicitly with shaping him and tempering his life for heaven. Over. Yeah, Roger, thank you for telling me that that was Burke.
I didn't hear about two-thirds of what he said. And that was the part I missed. So thank you for that relay and that further illumination.
Yeah, Bert's metaphor is a really excellent one. And you're right. You know, we can trust ourselves into the hands of our loving Savior to form us and shape us as he sees fit.
And, you know, we want that because what do we really want? We want to be like Jesus. We want to be done with sin.
We want to bring more glory to God. And we want to be more useful in his work. Well, all of that progress is achieved through this fiery trial that we experience.
And, you know, Roger, I know you look back on your life, and you've been through a bunch of fiery trials, and each of them took you to the next level of maturity and understanding and ability to minister to those who are going through those same kind of things. It reminds me of what Paul says in 2 Corinthians 1, where he says that God comforts us in all our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any tribulation. by the comfort with which we ourselves were comforted when we went through it.
So the sufferings of Christ abound in us, but also our consolations and comforts from Christ also abound. And so whether we're afflicted, it's for the benefit of those that we're ministering to, and whether we're comforted, so that we can extend those comforts to others as well. So, yeah, our sufferings have a big impact, not only on us, but also for the benefit of those that we minister to.
Back to you, Roger. Thank you. Yeah, well, when I heard what Jeff has been through in 2011, I was blown away.
And I feel like I don't even have a candle to what he personally has been through. So that was quite a revelation for me, over and out. Yeah, well, you know, God has a unique path for each of us to walk in.
And every one of those paths is different, but every one of those paths involves suffering in one way or the other. And the reason for that is because that's the path our Savior walked. And, you know, it says in, let's see, I'm looking for the passage here.
Yeah, here it is. Hebrews 5.8, speaking of Jesus. Jesus.
As though he were a son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation and to all them that obey him. And so I've said it before, I'll say it again.
God has only one son without sin, but he has no sons without suffering. And it's a path of sufferings. was the way in which Jesus was brought to maturity as a man, then we can't expect that we're not going to need suffering to bring us to maturity as men as well.
So... Yeah, you know, your suffering is different than his. It's different from mine.
But it's the perfect suffering we needed in our circumstance, given our personal challenges, to either take us to the next level of maturity or equip us for the next stage. active service or the next level of understanding of the scriptures that we need in order to be more effective servants in the kingdom. And so, you know, we look at others and we say, well, I haven't suffered like they have.
And they look at us and they say, well, I haven't suffered like he has. Because, you know, the suffering that's tailored for us is not as great to us as it is to others who are watching from outside. Because we know the grace.
We experience the grace. All they see is the suffering. They don't see the grief.
And so, yeah, everyone suffers greatly. Everyone receives great grace from God to go through it. And every single time, without exception, it's worked together for our good.
And that good that it's worked together for is to make us more like Jesus. Back to you, Roger. Yes, Wes, I really, really appreciate your sharing.
And in the case of suffering with making room for Autumn, as of late, it was my wife that was the hero. She basically gave up her closet to another closet and what she went through was a tremendous purifying experience letting her especially know how self-centered we can be. Yeah, she was the one that really suffered through that and she's the hero.
But of course the Lord gave us grace. But what is rewarding for both of us is to have... such productive contact um yeah well yeah I'm going to let somebody else share with you but this has been extremely wonderful blessing and I love that passage in Hebrews that you highlighted thank you WB7 of Israel look forward to tomorrow All right, Roger, real good, yep.
WB7MAX here. Yeah, you know, there's nothing like suffering and ministry to reveal to us, you know, the selfishness of our heart and to bring us to repentance over it. And, you know, you think about Paul pouring out his life as a drink offering and using up, spending up his life in the service of others.
AND THAT'S WHAT WE NEED TO BE. AND OFTEN TIMES WE WANT TO LIVE OUR LIFE FOR OURSELVES. AND, YOU KNOW, I THINK OF SO MANY THINGS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO THAT MINISTRY PROHIBITS ME FROM BEING ABLE TO DO, NOT BECAUSE THOSE THINGS ARE BAD, BUT BECAUSE I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO the work of ministry if I were doing those things.
And, you know, somebody said to me one time, Max, never let the good be the enemy of the bad. And so we have to make priorities and we have to ask ourselves, what's the best way I can use my time for God and His glory, His kingdom and His people? And what that means is neglecting a lot of things that are like completely legitimate and useful, but things that aren't...
they get in the way of doing something that's even better. All right, Roger, WB7VZL73 to you. Have a great day.
Say hi to Dailene for us, and we'll chat with you tomorrow. This is WB7MX, and I am standing by. Mark, KJ7PVT, go ahead.
I can hear you some. Yeah, go ahead there. Let's talk.
Yeah, I lost you there for a second. I turned my amp up. Let's try again, Mark.
Go ahead.
========== ### Scripture Reading (KJV)
Then said Satan unto the Lord, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thine hand; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord. And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy servants were fighting in the house; and suddenly there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. (Job 1:9-22 KJV)
Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life. So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes. Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die. Then said Job, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this Job sinned not with his lips. (Job 2:1-10 KJV)
### Study Summary
The Bible study focused on Job 2:1-10, which details the second round of testing Job undergoes, this time directly affecting his physical well-being. Satan challenges God again, arguing that Job's faith is merely a result of his material blessings. God allows Satan to test Job's integrity further by afflicting his body with severe boils.
Job's response to this suffering is a testament to his unwavering faith. Despite his wife's emotional plea to curse God, Job remains steadfast, recognizing that all blessings and trials come from the Lord. This contrast between Job's theological perspective and his wife's emotional reaction underscores the importance of maintaining faith in the face of adversity.
The study also touched on the broader themes of suffering and refinement, drawing parallels with passages like Isaiah 52:14 and 53:4, which describe the suffering of the Servant of God. The group discussed how suffering can serve as a refining process, much like a blacksmith refining metal, leading to spiritual maturity and a deeper understanding of God's purpose.
Participants shared personal testimonies, with Jeff (AK6OK) recounting his experience with cancer and Bert (W7RKD) discussing the blessings that come from enduring long-suffering. The study concluded with a reflection on Hebrews 5:8, which highlights Jesus' own experience of suffering and obedience, and 2 Corinthians 1, which speaks of comfort in suffering.
The discussion emphasized that while suffering is a part of life, it can also serve to strengthen faith and equip believers for ministry. The group acknowledged the importance of maintaining a theological perspective in the face of personal trials, and the comfort and strength that can be found in God's presence. ==========
