All right, well, I'll continue to check the SDRs in case people show up, and we will go from there. But for now... We are in Colossians chapter 3 verses 1 through 11.

That's Colossians 3:1 through 11 today And we're kind of in a new section of the book of Colossians And we said that this book was divided into two halves So we've got the doctrinal dissertation in chapters 1 through 2 and then we have the practical application in chapters 3 through 4 and And so it's not that there was no application in chapters 1 and 2, and it's not that there's no doctrine in chapters 3 and 4, but we're talking about the predominant emphasis of each section. And so here we're told to maintain our focus on Heaven and the Word of God. mortify our sins on earth, manage our personal relationships properly, husband, wife, parent, child, employer, employee, and then continue to practice the basic disciplines, praying without ceasing, walking in wisdom, speaking with grace.

So lots of wonderful things here by way of personal application. to our lives that we're going to be looking at in chapters 3 to 4. All right.

Well, let's get started with prayer. Jerry, 8E7ER, if you could open in prayer for us today. I would appreciate that.

Go ahead. Yes, right. I thought it was good.

Thank you for being here. And I pray that we may know the light of the new year. We also ask your blessing.

And our Bible study now, and that, Amen, Jerry. Thank you so much for that prayer. May the Lord be pleased to grant each one.

All right, we have our scripture reading now. Jeff, AK6OK, is going to read the scripture for us. And so Jeff, if you could read for us please, Colossians chapter 3 verses 1 to 11.

Go ahead there, brother. All right, Max, and good morning, everybody. It's a gorgeous Friday.

Boy, look at the miracles that are going to happen today. I'm going to read out of the New Living Translation this morning, because old Jeff can understand that a little bit better. Living the new life, starting with one.

That you've been raised... to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand. Think about things of heaven, not the things of earth.

For you died to this life. and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

So put to death the sinful earthly things lurking within you, having nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. don't be greedy for a greedy person as an idolater worship things of this worshiping things of this world because of these sins the anger of God is coming you used to do these things when your life was still part of this world but now is the time to get rid of anger rage malicious behavior slander and dirty language don't lie to each other for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and its wicked deeds but on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know of your creator and become like him in this new life it doesn't matter if you're a Jew or Gentile circumcised or uncircumcised barbaric and civilized slave or free Christ is all that matters and he lives in all of those how about that a man all right Jeff real good reading thank you for that All right. Any comments on this section that Jeff read to us?

Please come down to your call sign. 8K6OK, Jeff, please go ahead. You know, I can always respond with OK, but I've always wondered what you would say when I did.

I love the thing about verse 2. Think about the things of heaven and not the things of earth. Every night before my wife and I turn in, we pray, and that's one of the prayers that I make sure I seek in there.

Help us to keep our minds on things of heaven and not in the middle of the night when you're sleeping, let your mind get off to things of the world, meaning concerns you have, challenges you've got going on in life boy when you're sleeping you got to get rid of that stuff and start thinking about things of heaven because the war has already been won over amen well said Jeff thank you for that you know there are two realms there's the visible realm which are the things of this earth and then there's the invisible realm which are the things of heaven And the things of heaven, the invisible realm, is just as real as the visible. And we see John in the book of Revelation seeing that invisible realm and how real that is. And so it's really important for us to be spiritually minded, the Bible says to be.

carnally minded, that is, earthly minded as death, but to be spiritually minded as life and peace. And, you know, you're so right, Jeff. The anxiety goes away and the peace comes when we see the things of Earth from the perspective of Heaven and the perspective of Heaven is the primary frame of reference within which we're operating and by which we are evaluating what's going on in our lives.

And you know, everything in our lives is a part of that spiritual warfare, the conflict between the Kingdom of Christ and the Kingdom of Satan, between the invisible and the visible. And as we saturate our minds with that heavenly perspective, and the things above and the things ahead and the things that are invisible, and the presence of Christ and His Word, and those things then dominate and give us that peace, give us that confidence, give us that hope and that certainty so that the anxiety flows away. Because if you realize God is working everything together for good, even the bad things that happen, man, that's a heavenly perspective and that's a perspective that brings peace.

Jeff, that's a great way to end the day and to settle your mind for the night so that you can wake up in the morning refreshed and trusting in the Lord. All right, great comment there, Jeff. Any other comments, please come down.

WBC. WBC. Okay, Roger's awake actually.

WB7VZL, go ahead. Yes, it was refreshing to be made very much aware of Galatians 3:28 in this passage. That was serendipitous, I guess.

I didn't expect it this morning, Olin. Yeah, Galatians 3 and verse 28 says, There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And then, of course, our passage in Colossians 3 says, And verse 11 says there's neither Greek nor Jew circumcision or uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bond or free, but Christ is all and in all.

And yeah, that's one example, Roger, of the tremendous parallels between Ephesians and Colossians. A lot of verses from Ephesians are virtually copied word for word into Colossians. And we would expect that because, number one, Paul wrote Ephesians and Colossians at the same time when he was in prison in Rome.

And number two, the needs of each church are in many ways very similar. You know, Roger, if I were to walk into your church and look around and analyze everything going on, and then I went into another person's church and looked around and analyzed everything that's going on, there would be some differences, for sure. But there would also be a ton of similarities.

And so what we see is those similarities being expressed by Paul to the believers in each of these churches because they both have identical needs and identical issues that they're dealing with. So it's not that Paul was too lazy to come up with something new. It's that the need was exactly identical and the same.

So thank you for pointing that out. AK6OK. AK6OK, go ahead.

Come on, you guys, wake up out there. Hey, this weekend we had a guest speaker, and Priscilla Shire, you know who she is anyway. She was talking about Revelation 4 and this.

kind of dovetails into what we're talking about. Let me just read a little bit of it here. After I look, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven, and the voice I first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, Come up here.

And I'll show you what may let's take place after this You know that really spoke to me and it's about the same thing. We're talking about right now Get your mind in the side of heaven And it goes on to talk about the who is sitting on the throne. And it might be something you guys want to read.

Verse 1 through, I think it's 8. If you want me to read that, I can. Max, you know doggone well what that says.

Over. Yeah, copy that. And I want to correct myself before I get to your comment there, Jeff.

The passage that Roger had us look at was in Galatians. And somehow in my mind I was thinking it was Ephesians, and I was drawn off the parallels between Ephesians and Colossians. And so I just had a slip of the brain there.

I want to acknowledge that. And Galatians was not written at the same time that Colossians was. Nevertheless, the point I made still stands, and that is the needs of the Galatians church were very parallel with the needs of the Colossians church.

And so I just set the cause there, and I apologize for that. Anyway, getting back to Jeff's comment, yes, Jeff, you know, the beautiful thing about the book of Revelation is that the word throne occurs dozens of times in the book. Right.

virtually every time that refers to the throne of God. And in fact, Revelation is written from the perspective of the throne, of the enthroned God. And so when the voice called John to come up to heaven, what was the first thing he saw?

Verse 2 of Revelation 4. And immediately I was in the Spirit. And behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.

And then we have this wonderful description of the person who's sitting on the throne. And it inspires us with awe, with reverence, with humility, with joy, with confidence, with assurance. Because when you look at God sitting on the throne, ruling and reigning and running everything that's going on in this world, then you recognize that we don't have anything to fear.

Everything's in control. The plan is working out. And God is bringing to pass his purposes and his plans, his decrees.

for the salvation of his people and for the accomplishment of the spread of his gospel and, of course, the glory of his name. So, yeah, I would encourage anyone to read Revelation 4 and 5. And while there is some interesting visual symbolic images there, nevertheless, the main idea is really clear.

And that is we have an enthroned God. We have an exalted glorified Christ both of them are sitting in the throne running and ruling the universe and therefore we have nothing to be afraid of and so in our passage here in Colossians where It says that we are to See things which are above where Christ sits on the right hand of God there's no better declaration of Christ sitting on the right hand of God and in those last few verses in Revelation chapter 5. So let's be throne-centric Christians.

How about that for a term? Throne-centric. Have our lives focused on the throne.

Jeff, what a great observation. Thank you for tying those two passages together. All right, any other comments, please come now.

QQH Al, KJ7QQH, go ahead Yeah, copy that, that's in the Sherman on the Mel in Matthew chapter 5, I believe it is. Let me just turn there for a second. But yeah, the whole idea about laying up treasures on earth versus laying up treasures in heaven demonstrates the difference between being earthly-minded and worldly-minded.

I mean earthly minded and heavenly minded is what I meant to say. And so yeah, this is Matthew chapter 6, Matthew 6:19, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust is corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust is corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal." Now here it is, verse 21, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." So the question is, is that, you know, you look at folks who have no interest in Christ, no salvation.

They're living their lives for themselves. They heap up millions or billions of dollars, and then they die. And they leave it all behind, and they lose it all, and they wind up in eternal poverty and in hell where they can't purchase a drop of water for the tip of their tongue.

Whereas those who loved and served Christ, invested their lives in His cause and kingdom, served His people, proclaimed His word. When those people get to heaven, they are rich with rewards and with, of course, all the blessings of eternal life. And so the question is, what's our value system?

Now, we all have money. I have money. I'm grateful for the money that I have.

But it's not the object of my trust. I recognize it's the stewardship that he used to share in the kingdom of God and serve his cause and purposes. And, you know, when I die, that's not going to be left behind.

And so we don't set our hearts on it. We don't set our affections on it. We don't invest our lives in focusing on it.

It's a tool to be used for the cause of the kingdom. And praise the Lord, some of the godliest men in the Bible were very wealthy. You think of Job.

You think of Abraham. You think of King David and Solomon especially. And yet, money is not the evil.

It's the love of money which is the evil. And what we need to do is love Jesus and not money. Affirm Jesus and not money.

So thank you for putting out that passage. We need to keep that priority. We need to keep that focus.

of not setting our affections on the things down here, but setting our affections on the things above, and use the things down here for the things above, and as we do, we'll lay up treasure in heaven. You know, Al, I had a guy say to me once, he says... You can't take it with you, but you can send it on ahead.

And that's so true. Every dollar we give to the Lord's cause and kingdom is a dollar that's sent on up ahead and laid up in heaven. And while we have to be balanced, you know, we don't give away the house payment.

Nevertheless, there is that balancing. stewardship. Al, thanks for pointing that out.

All right, WB7MAX here, net control for the West Coast Model Study, looking for callmen, please come now. KB7, is that a consent? Is that a consent?

Kevin is in there. OK, is that extended? All right, Kevin, I got you on Utah.

Go ahead. Boy, the band's kind of gone downhill on us there. Wonderful comments, though, and spot on.

You know, this text here, as we come into-- chapter 3 really is the hinge of all that Paul has brought in understanding in the first two chapters and really what it means in our day-to-day life. How do we apply this? And he launches into such a powerful and positional way for us.

He begins really kind of paralleling the position of Christ himself at the right hand of God in Psalm 110 verse 1. But then he gives us two imperatives, in fact, to keep seeking the things above and to set our mind. And these are critical things because to keep seeking the things above comes from a position of not seeking the resurrection, but we are in his resurrection, in the resurrection of Christ.

And we are not, as you point out, not to be so focused on heaven that we're of no earthly good, but the point is is that our perspective is from the heavenly point of view and as we set our mind that is that we are to look at uh you know the temporal challenges the day-to-day life through the perspective of who we are in christ and and and and those things from above and um I never something about the WWJD always bothered me of what would Jesus do and I think the real question is what would Jesus have us do well this explains that right here what would Jesus have us do as we operate from our position here on earth we look at it from the heavenly perspective it is our uh... you know uh... are paid if you will our foundation perspective on how we address problems you know how we address conflict how we dress up circumstances and challenges and temptations well we first of all need to look at it as as uh...

you know, from our position here in Christ, and He's all authority, and are seeking things above, but we set our mind in that relationship as we address the challenges and temporal problems here from the perspective of we are... you know, our state is set. And in light of that, let us go forward, you know, with that frame of reference.

And again, this is not a suggestion by Paul. This is a present imperative. This is a continuous action, something we need to do day by day.

KB7, is that acceptable? Yeah, Kevin, good copy on Utah. Thank you for that.

Yeah, and thank you for pointing out the present imperative there. Keep on seeking. Keep on setting your mind.

Keep on seeking the things above. Keep on setting your mind on the things above and not on the You know, Jeff was saying every night when he goes to bed, he prays that, Lord, you know, keep our minds focused on things above. And it's a constant battle.

It's a constant process because the world wants to grab our minds and set our affections on the things it wants us to focus on. And, you know, you see that battle going on in Psalm 1, right? Blessed is the man who walks not.

and decals to be ungodly or stands in the way of sinners or sits in the seat of the Lord. But, verse 2, his delight is in the law of the Lord and in his law that they meditate day and night. So the world wants our attention.

It wants our mind. It wants our thoughts. Jesus wants our attention, our mind, and our thoughts.

And we have a choice to make every day, every moment of every day. Where am I going to focus my mind? And we're going to focus it on the Lord.

We're going to focus it on His Word and what He wants us to do. And, yeah, you know, you referenced that book. There was this novel that was written by Charles Sheldon back in the 1800s.

He wrote a book called In His Depths. what would Jesus do? That was the big question.

I read the book as a young Christian. You know the problem with that book, Kevin, is that they never looked in the Bible to see what Jesus would do. They just prayed and they discussed and they, and really it was preaching a social gospel, right?

Mm-hmm. and divorced from the Word of God. So, yeah, what would Jesus have me do?

And how am I going to find that out? Well, I'm not going to go by my feelings. I'm not going to go by what other people tell me.

I'm going to look in the Bible. What does the Bible tell me Jesus wants me to do? And that's what I'll do.

So, yeah, the book is a poor book. And the thesis of the book is that human reason, divorced from the Scriptures, in order to decide what Jesus would do and then follow in his steps. And, of course, you know, it's biblical concept to follow in his steps, but the steps that we follow in are the directions that he gave to us.

Kevin, great comment. All right, other comments. Please come down.

Okay, go ahead, John. You know, one other thing that this brings to mind, if you -- right now we're in the middle of a governor's election in California. Just look at the ads.

And as you look at the ads on television, radio, whatever, I'm starting to notice something really interesting. It's that candidates talking about their benefits, they're talking about how horrible everybody else is. Wow, what a perspective.

Are we electing people because they're not as bad as the people they claim are worse than they are? Wow, we've sunk to all new lows. And this is precisely what this is talking about here in Colossians 3.

Get your mind out of this garbage dump and get it on things of heaven. uh start paying attention to who Jesus is over yeah amen and uh that's the thing about uh you know the politics of destruction it's not about what I'm gonna do that's good and wholesome and positive it's about how evil and horrible this other person is and uh You know, as we live the Christian life, we need to ask ourselves not, what is this other person doing, but what am I supposed to be doing? And, you know, that verse 5 through 11 that you read to us, Jeff, put to death your remaining sins.

whether it's fornication or uncleanness or covetousness, whatever it is, he gives quite the list here. Anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communications out of your mouth. Don't lie.

And so there's a lot of things we need to turn away from. And one of the reasons it's hard to turn away from this stuff is because the world normalizes this. The world practices it, and the world even glorifies it.

And so you see especially lying going on during these political campaigns. And I remember it was a long time ago, probably... 25 years ago, there was a campaign where just before the voting took place, like two or three days before, some horrible allegations were lodged against one of the candidates.

Criminal allegations. And the guy was ahead, and he wound up losing the race. Well, after the race was over, it turned out all those allegations were completely false.

And the person who lodged those allegations was confronted. And his attitude was, well, he lost the election, didn't he? That was the whole idea.

And he was just brazen in justifying his lies and slander because it enabled the other party that he wanted to win to win the election. And that's the kind of evil methodology that the world practices. I will do evil if I can get the outcome I want.

Christians need to repudiate that with every fiber they're being. We need to be people who are honest. We need to be people who are upright.

We need to be people who do the right thing, irrespective of the consequences that are going to flow out of those choices because short term, it might cost us a great deal to do the right thing or say the right thing. But in the long term, God will reward that, and God will provide us with blessing because of it. So we've got to put off the things that go along with the old life, and we've got to put on those things that go along with the new life.

And so notice verse 10, And you were put on the new man. which is continually renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created Him. So what we're trying to do is image God in our speech and our behavior, our conduct, our choices, the way we treat other people.

as opposed to the world. A great comment. Thank you for that.

All right, another comment. Please come down. And, Max, in contrast to what I just mentioned, Those candidates who are on the other side, they're talking about their benefits.

As you just mentioned, half of them are lying through their teeth. There's a candidate right now that is promising everybody the entire world, I'm going to make your gas prices lower, I'm going to make your power prices lower for your house, and I'm going to lower taxes on you. And when it's absolutely impossible.

As voters, we have to really wade through this mess. And, you know, I don't think any candidate, I've never heard the word Jesus come out of their mouth. Dover?

Yeah, I copy that. And that's the whole problem is, you know, on our national motto, it's in God we trust, right? And then in our Pledge of Allegiance, it's one nation under God.

And yet, you don't see candidates hardly ever acknowledging the fact that, you know, as a candidate, I'm under the authority of God. I have to carry out the will of God in my office because that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. And if my people, which call upon my name I shall humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways and will I hear their prayer and will bless their land and so while we mouth the word you know may God bless our nation or one nation under God or or in God we trust, how seldom do people self-consciously understand that, believe that, and carry that out, especially in the leadership of our nation.

So, yeah, you're right. You have to sift through all of the statements, try to have determination of who's lying and who's not. and uh I guess my attitude, Jeff, about elections is this.

I try to vote for the person who best represents God's will and God's ways in civil government. And while no candidate perfectly does that, and a lot of them do it tough, very poorly, it's better than housing someone who is self-consciously a hater of God and self-consciously wants to destroy everything God stands for. So that's the choice we face.

Jeff, thanks for being responsible about taking those things through and trying to figure out which candidate would best represent God's will and God's ways. All right, any other comments? Please come in.

You got an exam? Yeah. KB7, is that extended?

All right, let's talk to Max. Max, that extends in there. It's talking about putting on the new man which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.

So the idea there is that we need to gain some knowledge, okay, by nature because our minds are darkened and depraved. You know, we believe we're ignorant and we believe lies. And so if we're going to be renewed in the knowledge of God, that demands that we really expose ourselves to the scriptures because there's no place that we find the knowledge of God like we do in the Word of God.

So there's a passage in Job. I don't know the exact address, but it says, Acquaint now thyself with him and be at peace. And the better acquainted you are with God, the more at peace you are at, the more you see sin for the evil it is, the more distasteful it becomes to you, and the easier it is to turn away from it.

All right, another comment. Please come down. Kevin, KB7ZXM, please go ahead.

Got you on Utah. Yeah, very good, Max. Boy, the band's tough, but I sure appreciate the comments from you and Keith, or Jeff and Al and others there.

Yeah, you know, one of the things here too I like, because you really kind of keep perspective. As we look at things from the positional, you know, as pointed out in Philippians, as you just looked at, you know, we are citizens of heaven now. Our citizenship has changed.

we have been freed from the bondage of sin. We are living in Christ. And of course, the first two chapters really expound on what the significance of that and what that looks like.

But as we look in our daily life and as we deal with others and candidates, politicians, You know, some of the jokes regarding politicians and all that are really a lot of truth in them. But the point is, as we look at people that are lost, we also look at them with an understanding that they also are eternal beings. And though they are lost, although they are perpetuating some of the ugliness of sin and greed and hunger for power and all these ungodly things, by the discernment of God's Word and the Spirit in us, we can recognize that.

can recognize that we were too once dead in our trespasses and sins and we were once lost and we were once you know not focused on the things of God and looking at things from a heavenly perspective. And so as we go forward with that understanding, it really even convicts us more to seek the salvation of the lost. Even with the resistance, even with the attacks, even with the violence, you know ridicule whatever may come and the disdain toward us sometimes.

The understanding that God gives us in that is that as God has restored His grace upon us and now we are looking forward to the glorification in Christ because we're already resurrected in Him a new creation. We can certainly continue to recognize that there is a lost world out there that needs God, that needs that salvation, that also can be free from that same bondage that we were once lost in. KB7 is that example.

Yeah, amen. And what a transformative work salvation is. It takes us out of the kingdom of darkness where our citizenship used to be and brings us into the kingdom of heaven where our citizenship now is.

And if our citizenship is in heaven, we're risen with Christ, then we need to set our affections on his cause and his kingdom. And that's described here in this phrase, the things which are above. And, you know, I think of that passage in the book of James where it talks about the things beneath, the things above.

And it talks about... the wisdom that is earthly and sensual and devilish, where ending and strife is and confusion and every evil work. That's the earthly wisdom.

The wisdom that's from above is pure, peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruit, without partiality and without hypocrisy. And so we have the wisdom from beneath, we have the wisdom from above, The results they produce are radically different from each other. And so we live in another realm.

You know, Jesus said, my kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight? And so he wasn't here to establish a political kingdom.

He wasn't here to raise an earthly army. He wasn't here to use physical methods. to advance his cause and his kingdom, but rather it's invisible, it's spiritual.

The weapons of our warfare are not physical, but they're mighty through God with the pulling down of his stronghold. So, yes, Kevin, since we're risen with Christ, let's take those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God, exercising authority and power, and bringing blessing and advancement to his people. And so we died with Christ, and we now have his life in us.

And when he appears, then we will also appear as beings of people and children of those and induct into his heavenly kingdom. By the way, in that way... I would like to acknowledge Dave, KU7WKI.

Dave, I've seen you there for quite a while, and as the conversation has progressed, I keep forgetting to check you in. Dave, KU7WKI, thank you for being with us. All right, any other comments on the passage, please come down.

- Yeah, I'll be at the KU7WKI. - Roger, please go ahead. I have been impressed in the past about verse 5 at the very end at which amounts to idolatry how the NASB puts it.

All these characteristics which you have highlighted already, uh, oftentimes we grew up you know thinking about it we read the older testament about all those people that they were just worshipping these statues and inanimate objects and then we have passages in Isaiah for example that you know that God can't speak and they can't do anything why do you worship them well here Paul says we make ourselves into God. We're idolatry. I guess the greatest God that we worship, if we have those characteristics of verse 5, is ourselves.

So that was a dimension that I remember thinking, wow, that's right. I guess I'm making myself as a God, over. Yeah, amen.

Whatever the highest source of authority is in your life, that constitutes your God. The nature of God is that he's the highest authority in the universe. And so when we make our fleshly desires the highest authority and we obey them rather than the God who sits on the throne...

then what we're really saying is that these carnal sinful desires are of a higher authority in my life than God is. And thus I become an idolater. And so an idol is anything that has greater authority and greater command over you than God does.

And so idolatry is not just bowing down and worshipping a statue, as you said. It's putting our own sinful carnal desires in front of and ahead of and above God himself. And so I remember that last verse in 1 John chapter 5 where he says, Little children...

keep yourselves from idols. That's 1 John 5 and verse 21, the last verse in that book. Rule children, keep yourselves from idols.

And it's like, you know, an idol is anything that's more important to us than God. And it's a legend Thank you for bringing that out and for us to think of ourselves as idolaters. We don't have little gods that we bow down to, or that are statues or whatever.

But all of us have been guilty of idolatry. All of us have broken the first commandment, "I am the Lord thy God, thou shalt have no other gods before me." and we have broken that and we need to repent of that and ask God for forgiveness in relationship to that and see our sins for what they are what they are is they are replacing God's vision of authority in our lives and that's a poor subjection All right, we are out of time. We need to stop here and go to prayer.

Al, KJ7QQH is going to lead us in prayer. Are there any final prayer requests that anyone has before Al leads us in prayer? Please come down if you're caught on.

========== ### Scripture Reading (KJV)

Colossians 3:1-11

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

### Study Summary

The Bible study centered on Colossians 3:1-11, with a focus on the importance of setting our sights on heavenly things and mortifying earthly sins. The passage calls believers to seek things above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God, and to set their affections on heavenly matters rather than earthly ones.

Jeff emphasized the importance of Colossians 3:2, encouraging the group to think about heavenly things, a practice he personally applies by praying for heavenly focus before sleep. Roger noted the parallel between Colossians 3:11 and Galatians 3:28, highlighting the similarities in Paul's writings and the need to understand the context of his letters to the churches.

Al referenced Matthew 6:19-21, discussing the importance of laying up treasures in heaven rather than on earth. He stressed the need to set affections on heavenly things and not earthly possessions, reinforcing the theme of heavenly focus.

Kevin discussed the application of Colossians 3:1-11 to daily life, emphasizing the need to seek heavenly things and set the mind on them. He highlighted the importance of understanding our position in Christ and the need for continuous action in seeking heavenly things. John related the passage to current political campaigns, emphasizing the need to focus on heavenly things rather than earthly politics and the importance of honesty and integrity in political discourse.

Max focused on gaining knowledge of God through scripture to be renewed in the image of God, referencing Job and the importance of being acquainted with God. Kevin also discussed the importance of recognizing the lost state of others and seeking their salvation, highlighting the transformative work of salvation and the need to set affections on heavenly things.

Dave noted that idolatry can be self-worship, linking to 1 John 5:21, emphasizing the need to avoid idolatry in all forms. The group's discussion centered on the major themes of heavenly focus, the mortification of sin, and the application of these teachings to daily life, including political discourse and the need to maintain a heavenly perspective.

The study concluded with a prayer led by Al, covering various topics including work, health, and salvation. WB7MX thanked participants and encouraged continued participation, and the group shared some light-hearted jokes to conclude the meeting. ==========
