So anyway, good to hear and appreciate you being there, Brian, and good signal today. All right. Any other check-ins this morning?
Please come now. Thanks for watching! Our passage today is going to be Ephesians 5:1-7, so you might turn there in your Bibles, Ephesians 5:1-7, and we will be looking at that.
Well, I see Dan, N6T and I in North Highlands, California. Good morning, Dan. November 6, Tango, November, India.
All right, there is Dan. Okay, all right, any other check-ins and/or prayer requests, please come now. *Rain* *Rain* This is WV7MX, that controls the voice across Bible study.
We've got about a minute to go before the Bible study begins at 6 o'clock. Any more check-ins, please come out. WV7MX, WV7MX, good to hear your voice, brother.
How are you, how are you, Leslie? We're just listening today, no new prayers. Okay, I think I had a double there.
Beck picked you up, but I'm talking to Steve right now. Steve, W6YSI, how are you doing? Yeah, good morning, Brother Max, and good morning to Beck there.
Anyway, no problem on the double. Yeah, we're just running behind the power curve a little bit these days, but we're here and looking forward to the stay. And here we go, W6YSI.
Copy that, Steve. So I'm going to ask you to read this morning. You can turn to Ephesians 5:1-7, Ephesians 5:1-7.
And I'll check with you in a minute if you can do the reading for me. Alright, back to Beck, ALFALFA 5 Yankee and his wife Sandy, W7SAB. How are you guys doing, Beck?
Good morning, Steve. We're doing pretty good, Pastor Max. We're just going to be along for the ride today, Roger.
Copy that. Got you down as listeners. No worries there, Beck, and appreciate you being there.
WB-7, he's at Elm. And there's Roger. Good morning, Roger.
How you doing? Hey, better than I deserve, and both Beck and you are well over 20 over. Yeah, copy that.
We have a great band today. I'm hearing everybody really well and had a couple of new check-ins today, so that's great. Roger, good to have you with us.
Okay, any other check-ins this morning, please come now. All right, just give me a second to look over my SDRs here, make sure I haven't missed anybody there on Utah. Think we've got everyone there that's listed.
And Half Moon Bay, let's see who is there. And, yeah, we got Dan, Peter, yep, Phillip. And, alright, I think we've got everybody checked in.
Alright, it is 6 o'clock. It's time for us to get started. This is WB7MAX, a net control for the West Coast Bible Study.
We are looking at Ephesians 5:1-7 today. And in this section, Paul continues to talk about how we live out the salvation that God has provided us with. So we look at Ephesians 1, 2, and 3, those three chapters, in which Paul set forth a lot of teaching and doctrine about salvation.
And now in chapters 4, 5, and 6, he's talking about how we apply that and live that out in our lives. And so we saw in chapter 4 and verse 1, he's talking about our walk with the Lord. To walk with the Lord means to have fellowship with him.
It means to follow him. It means to live with him and for him and strive to be like him and to echo his message and to live out his teachings. Well, this walk is described in quite some detail.
We are told how we're not supposed to walk in chapter 4 and in verse 17. It says, This I say therefore in testifying the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not. like unsaved people walk, that is, people who are not Christians.
And then he talks about how we are supposed to walk. And we see that specifically in chapter 5 in verse 2, it says, "And walk in love, as Christ also loved us." So that's what we're going to be talking about today, is our walk with the Lord and what it means to walk in love as Christ walked, and that's kind of the focus of our section in chapter 5, verses 1-7. And then in the following sections.
We're going to see how he talks about walking in the light, and then we're going to see how he talks about walking circumspectly. So some interesting exhortations and encouragements there that give us some guidance as to how we're to conduct ourselves. One of the things about being a Christian is that we no longer have our own will.
Our will is given up to the will of Christ, not my will, but thine be done, is the attitude of our heart that Jesus himself expressed in the Garden of Gethsemane. You remember that was his attitude. Father, don't do what I want to do.
Do with me and in me and through me what you want to do. So we're disciples, and disciples are followers. and a follower is someone who does the will of the one he's following.
So we're striving to be like Jesus and to live for Jesus and to walk with Jesus. And so that's the focus of our section today. All right.
Before we get started, we're going to open our time in prayer. Ed, N6XOH, if you could open in prayer for us today, I would sure appreciate that. Go ahead there, Ed.
All right. Sure, let us pray. Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you this morning.
We ask that you bless our Bible study, that each person here can gain a blessing, that you touch each heart here, that we can carry this that we learn through this precious Bible of ours, to walk in our life that we can be close to you. Watch over us today. Be with Pastor Max as he leads out, as he brings us the bread of life.
And just, Lord, I just ask that your Holy Spirit will descend upon each person here. Watch over us all. Lord, help us all to be ready when you come to take us home.
I pray in Jesus' name, amen. In the name of Jesus. Alright Ed, real good.
Thank you for leading us to the throne of grace and thank you for those requests. May God be pleased to grant each one. Alright, Steve, W6YSI, if you could read for us please Ephesians chapter 5 verses 1 through 7.
That's 5:1 to 7 there, Steve. Okay, Ephesians 5 and I'll be reading again the American Standard. "Therefore, imitators of God, as beloved children, and walk in love just as Christ also loved you, and himself up for us, offering a sacrifice to God with a fragrant aroma.
Do not let immorality or any impurity or greed even be named among you as is proper among saints. There must be no filthiness and silly talk or coarse jesting. If you're not fitting, you're rather giving a thanks.
Lest you know with certainty that no immoral or impure person or covetous man who is an idolater is an inheritance of the kingdom of Christ in God. that no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
Therefore, not be partaker of sin. And I stop after verse 7. WB6Y, sir.
Steve, great reading. Thank you for that. WB7MAX here.
All right, any comments anybody wants to make on this section, please come down to the call sign. YSI. Steve, W6YSI, go ahead.
Therefore, that very first statement, it just, I've read that so many times and talked to people about it. We want a really high bar, therefore. "Imitators of God as beloved children." Wow.
Yeah, Steve, that's a really profound statement there. "Be you therefore imitators of God as dear children." Well, you know, you think about kids, right? And they're little copycats.
You know, I remember I raised four children. They're all adults now. My youngest is like 37.
But, you know, when you're a kid, monkey see, monkey do. You know, whatever you say, however you behave, they look at that and they copy that. They say your words and you see them engaging in your actions.
And so that puts a lot of pressure on you as a parent to set a good example and to say things that you want your kids saying. And so that's who we are. We're children of God.
And so we look to our Heavenly Father. And we say to ourselves, "Well, how is he behaving? That's how I need to behave." And of course that demands that we become acquainted with and spend time with our Father and understand His speech, understand His thinking, understand His behavior.
And to the degree that it's appropriate that we would copy that. Now, obviously, there's some things about God we don't imitate, because He's God and we're humans, right? But in terms of His moral behavior, we certainly want to copy that, and of course, that's the focus of the remainder of this passage.
So... You know, when we talk about someone being godly, we see this is a godly man or this is a godly woman. What we're saying is they are like God.
This is a person who's imitating God in their character, in their conduct, in their speech, especially in the area of morality. So, Steve, good comment and good observation, and let's be imitators of God as his children. looking to the example of our Father, and walking in His footsteps.
Alright, other comments, please come down. Kevin, KB7ZXN, go ahead. KB7ZXN, and Steve, I appreciate you noticing that right off the bat, because really this might be the most audacious command in the Word of God.
TO IMITATE GOD, YOU KNOW, AND TO CONTEMPLATE THAT. WHAT A UNIQUE, TALL ORDER. YOU NEVER SEE THAT IN THE PAGAN WORLD, CERTAINLY NOT IN THE WORLD OF THE GREEK GODS THAT THEY WERE SURROUNDED WITH, OR THE ROMAN GODS, DEPENDING ON WHAT REGION YOU WERE IN, BUT TO BE IMITATORS OF GOD.
AND, MAX, I APPRECIATE YOU MENTIONING CHILDREN, BECAUSE THAT'S THE IDEA HERE. as we would imitate, you know, maybe our father or our parent, that we would, because of love, again, we love, you know, we have a loving parent, we hold them in the highest, and we would want to emulate that. as they do.
And you're right, so many good memories of that with our own children and I'm sure us as children as well. So I think that's a beautiful picture. He's calling us to walk in love and in light and in wisdom.
And really what he's talking about is the sacrificial love. of our Lord and Savior. And to imitate, it's not the outwardly things, it's not a list of rules, if you will, as we've talked about before.
It's not a list of rules rules or rituals or things, outwardly things, but it is what comes from within us. And he certainly calls out some of those internal things that we need to certainly be turned away from because we could not walk in lust or sexual immorality and still be with imitating God. We cannot be walking in greed and be, you know, have a heart of greed and be imitating God.
And we certainly can be, you know, having crude talk around us as part of our lifestyle. and be imitating God. And sadly, a lot of those three characteristics are certainly accepted by the world and sometimes even celebrated by the world, you know, greed and focus on money.
And then he goes on into more of the internal things, like covetousness, which is kind of the – The accepted sin, if you will, in our culture, in fact, marketing exploits it quite heavily. But again, it's listed amongst those. So yeah, I think 1 John 3, 16 and Romans 5, 8 all kind of express this sacrificial love that we're to have as our Lord had for us.
KV7 is that accepted? Just a second. All right, got my STI shut down there.
Sorry about that. Okay, WB7MX here. Kevin, good comment.
You know, and that's the thing, okay? Verse one, "Be therefore imitators of God "as dear children," right? What does that mean, verse 2, walk in love?
What does it mean to walk in love? Well, in the same way Christ loved us and gave himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God. And so you're right.
John 3, 16 and Romans 5, 8, thanks for pointing those out, because what we see in the example of the Father is that he was willing to give his Son for us. And since he gave us the gift of his son, we give him back the gift of our life. As it says in Romans 12, 1, I beseech you, therefore, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, wholly acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
So it's a logical thing that if God would give his son for us to redeem us from our sins, we would give ourselves back to him as redeemed people for his glory and for his service. And we can't serve God, and we can't glorify God if we're living lives of sin. And we glorify God and we serve God when we behave like God and like His Son, Jesus, who is our example that we follow.
And so this next list of things that Kevin alluded to here are all things that are contrary to God. what it means to be a follower of God. So we have this negative list of things we're not supposed to do.
We have these positive exhortations of things we are supposed to do. We're to walk in love. We're not to walk in fornication.
We're to walk in self-sacrificial service. and worship were not to engage in filthiness and foolish talking. So some real contrast set up here.
And, Kevin, thank you for pointing that out. All right, other comments, please. Come now.
YSI. Steve, W6YSI, go ahead. I think, too, that...
We get a warning from this in that we are, because of nature, we tend to want to be liked or do things that other people do. that aren't good. So they have to be careful about that.
And who are we imitating? Some people say, well, I'd like to be more like John Wayne, or I'd like to be more like this person over here, or whatever. I guess what I'm trying to say is that whoever we're around or company, I'm thinking of the scripture that says that bad company corrupts good morals.
And who are we hanging around with? What kind of music are we listening to? And all that kind of stuff.
And I guess the instruction I'm getting at is that we will imitate. That's part of the way we're made. And so we have to be careful about and be thoughtful about, you know, what am I wanting to imitate?
Because it's going to happen. That'd be a 6YSI. Yeah, Steve, well said.
Really appreciate you bringing out the fact that we are going to imitate someone or something. And the only question is, is what is it and who is it? And sadly, our society holds up, you know, the Hollywood movie stars and the social influencers and politicians and pundits and all of these, you know, really bad examples of people to imitate and to be like.
And, you know, the bottom line is, Steve, is that we imitate the people who are around the most. And so, as you said, we need to pick our companions very carefully. It says elsewhere in the book of Proverbs that he that walks with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools will be destroyed.
In that passage, you quoted evil companions corrupt good morals. And over and over again, the Bible tells us that we need to accompany with, number one, Jesus Christ, and number two, with those who are following him. You know, Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11, he says, Be therefore imitators of me, or be followers of me, as I follow Christ.
Okay? And so we can look to the example of godly men and godly women And we can follow the example of their faith, as it says in Hebrews 13, I think it's verse 8. And so I think another angle on this, Steve, and that is, who are we exposing our children to?
Our children are going to be imitators. So we need to select their companions carefully. We need to select carefully what we allow them to see and watch.
Because I can't tell you how many times I've seen kids doing things and I say, "What are you doing?" "Oh, I'm being a superhero," or "Oh, I'm being a Gilmore girl," or "Oh, I'm being like this or like that," right? And so we need to set before our children good and godly examples so that they would aspire to be like them. So, Steve, great comments there.
Let's be careful who we expose ourselves to. to imitate and then select those people carefully. All right, other comments, please come down.
ZXN. ZXN, Kevin, go ahead. Yeah, very good comments and observations.
You know, you think about the love that our Lord, that God had for us, and as we've talked about, he gave himself a sacrifice. It's represented as the great act of worship and sacrifice in the Old Testament. You know, that's what the love here we're talking about is, the agape, the sacrificial love, the love that costs.
And, you know, the love is not measured by the emotional intensity that maybe someone has, but by the willingness to give of oneself because of the, in response to the love given to us by our Lord. He gave himself a ransom for us, you know, and it's, Paul also kind of talks about this in... give ourselves a living sacrifice and so yeah it's it's the heart you know i see ephesians 5 is such a wonderful chapter and as you pointed out backs up our walk with the lord you know in the first three chapters talked about these great deep theological uh understandings.
But now, how do we live that out in our lives? What do we do with that? Well, that goes hand in hand, that understanding with our living of our life.
And as, you know, chapter 5 talks about, we first of all, foremost, that we emulate that sacrificial love, that deepest and most beautiful of all love, because it was even expressed as we learned from God before the foundations of the world, He loved us and purposed Himself to provide that. And of course, our love gave Himself, and that Spirit gives of Himself Himself. to us through that process to guide us.
And that's what the fulfillment of walking in love, walking in delight, and walking in wisdom, what it means to walk in the Spirit, as we will see later in this chapter. KB7, is that acceptable? Yeah, Kevin, thank you for pointing out that, that, you know, verse 2, walk in love as Christ also is loved us.
What does that love look like? He's given himself for us in his situation to provide redemption. And so if we're going to imitate the love of Jesus for other people, that means that we engage in self-sacrifice in order to serve their needs.
And that means putting others first, as Paul says in Philippians 2, look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. And so when you think about people who love or people you think of as loving, they're people who serve others and see a need and reach out and meet that need, and they do that regardless of the cost to themselves. And so love is serving.
Love is not abusing. And when you look at these other statements here, fornication, uncleanness, covetousness, filthiness, foolish talking, jesting, whoremongering, those things are harmful to other people. They don't serve other people.
They hurt other people. They also hurt ourselves. And so, you know, when we ask ourselves, what's the loving thing to do here?
Well, what's the thing that will help draw this person near to God? How can I serve and meet their legitimate needs? And also, how can I encourage them not to engage in self-destructive behaviors or behaviors that are destructive toward other people?
And, you know, it's interesting. Verse 5 says, For this you certainly know, that no whoremonger or unclean person or covetous man who is an idolater has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. And so by their fruits you will know them.
And so people engage in this behavior and say, well, you know, I prayed and I asked Jesus to save me. And then they're constantly involved in sexual immorality. They're constantly involved in covetousness and in idolatry and following other things as having the highest authority in their life rather than Jesus.
What you realize is you're just a person who's not saved. And while we're not saved by our works, our works do demonstrate whether we are saved by faith in Jesus because the faith is saved. is a faith that not only transforms, but it's also a faith that imitates.
And it says, "I don't want to be followers of the lust of the flesh, or the lust of the world, or the pride that rises up in me. I want to be a follower of Jesus, and I want to walk in love like He did. I want to lay down my life in service to Him." and in service to His people and in service to the lost?
And how can I lift them up and bring them into an acquaintance with the God that I know and that I serve and love? And so this is what God does. He looks at us and He says, I'm going to draw those people near.
He sends His Son, He sends His Spirit, He sends His Word. And so what do we do? We proclaim His Son, we pray for the work of His Spirit, and we preach His Word to try to draw people near to God.
And that's what Christianity looks like. Christianity does not look like a fornication and uncleanness and covetousness and idolatry and wicked speech. All right, any other comments on this passage, please, come now.
Alright, well, while you're thinking, I'll make a couple of comments on Verses 3 and 4. Verse 3 has to do with our actions. fornication, uncleanness, covetousness.
And then verse 4 has to do with our speech. Filthiness, foolish talking, jesting, which are not fitting. Now, this is not to say that we shouldn't engage in good, normal, clean humor.
But it is to say that most of the humor, you know, you look at the so-called worldly comedians, and their jokes are just filthy. And they're corrupting and they're degrading and they're defiling and they're disgusting. And the fact they think that's funny, well, it's not funny to God.
And what isn't funny to God shouldn't be funny to us. And, you know, I appreciate good humor. I appreciate clean jokes.
Those are perfectly fine. But what isn't fine is filthy humor and filthy jokes that make light of sin and laugh at sin and sinful behavior and sinful conduct. So we need to watch our behavior, verse 3.
We need to watch our speech, verse 4. And once again, in verse 4 we see this opposite positive virtue, right? What are we not supposed to do?
Well, use obscene speech, engage in destructive speech. But rather, in contrast to that, notice that last phrase in verse 4, the giving of thanks. And so one of the things that should mark our speech is that we're constantly thankful.
You know, when something happens, you know, you see a beautiful sunrise, well, thank the Lord for that. Or, you know, you have good food on the table, you know, you stop and give thanks. Or things go well during the day and you say, thank you, Lord.
We should be a thankful people, and thanksgiving should be constantly coming out of our mouth. Because what do we have that we've not received? And if we received it, then why would we not return thanks for it?
All right, other comments on this passage? Please come down. WB7VZL Roger, WB7VZL, go ahead I was just thinking what you were describing these verses I just think of the amount of production that does make fun of implied covetousness or greed or impurity, the soundtrack, the production of a sitcom, and all the laughing that in production, they raise up on the board, that any joke And there's this whole crowd laughing along with the situation in the sitcom.
It's just a corporate kind of a blasphemous experience against this passage, or whatever. You know, it really is. And modern day entertainment, and as you said, especially sitcoms, are designed to make light of sin, to make sin funny, and to take away the offensiveness of sin and treat it as though it's really not something to be avoided, it's something to be reveled in, make jokes about, and even participate in.
And there are just a lot of garbage, garbage shows. on TV, especially in situation comedies, to glorify that. And, you know, we would be way better off to turn off the television and to, you know, turn off the social media and just sit quietly in a chair and read our Bibles.
or read a good Christian book. One of the things that really inspires me a lot is to read good Christian biographies. You know, read the stories of the lives of men and women who have set wonderful examples for us of living for Christ.
and serving Christ and being like Christ in their conduct and behavior. So the old missionary biographies, Adoniram Judson and John Patton and so many others who pioneered missionary work, more modern day people who have served the Lord, Some of the names escape me right now. I can see the covers of the books.
But anyway, we all have a choice to make about what we expose ourselves to. And we need to expose ourselves to things that move us toward God and toward holiness and towards faithfulness. biblical desires and away from those things and avoid those things that move us away from God and make us to have worldly thoughts.
The book of Revelation talks about Babylon and Babylon is just a metaphor for anti-Christian society. You can see the evil of it there in Revelation chapter 18 and all the covetousness and all the worldliness and all the human pride and all the anti-God attitudes. that are there.
Well, we all live in Babylon. We all live in an anti-Christian society. But we have to come out from among it and live separated lives in our thinking and in what we expose ourselves to.
And there's just an awful lot of what they do we don't participate in. We live in an alternate kingdom that is the kingdom of God. And so we need to be constantly cultivating in our minds godly behavior instead of ungodly behavior.
So there's a sharp contrast between how Christians live and how the unsaved live about what we expose ourselves to and the examples we look at to follow and what others do as well. So, Roger, great comment there. Okay, other comments, please come down.
WB7VZL Roger, WB7VZL, go ahead Roger Just meditating on this idea of walk in love and being imitators of God And when our most recent example is you've all prayed. Oh, by the way, I think an answer to prayer is that Daylene saw Autumn at Planet Fitness. And I was so blessed to hear that she came up and gave Daylene a hug.
And that was a real prayer that we could possibly if according to the Lord's providence that there would be an ending of this relationship that is very intimate when you, as you know, when you have someone underneath your roof. She knew more about us. than anybody else in the world.
Literally, she knew all the details. She knew our schedule like the back of her hand. But to hear after two years of homelessness in a car, She had plenty of episodes of fear and anxiety, especially at night.
The fear and breaking love casts out fear. And so that was my goal, that she would have an oasis of finally no fear. And a lot of that was...
because I chose to follow this passage. It had with her background, I was extremely fearful because of the spirit saying, "Roger, I do not, you do not want to introduce any fear "because fear is not of love." And so this passage really communicates to me as well. Yeah, amen.
Perfect love casts out fear because fear has torment and love never torments, does it? If there's torment, it is a love. God brings peace and he brings joy.
And he brings connection and communion and security and contentment and all of those things. Roger, I'm so pleased to hear that report that there's still that love between Autumn and Dailene, even though there's been a change of living circumstances. That's really good news.
So, yeah, walk in love. And that love is not just affirming anybody and anything no matter what they do. A lot of people think being loving is never correcting anyone's behavior or belief.
That's not love. I mean, immediately he starts doing what? Correcting people's behavior and their speech and their belief and even telling them that if they engage as a habit of life, in whoremongering and impurity and idolatry, they'll never enter heaven.
And so we have to define what it means to be loving by how the apostles spoke to people. And the most loving thing you can do is lead people to Christ. If you're going to lead them to Christ, you've got to lead them away from sin and worldliness and some of the behaviors that are going to bring God's wrath and judgment on them.
So, you know, I've been accused at times of being unloving because I tell people, you know, you're going to go to hell if you continue to behave like that. And what I'm trying to do is awaken them to their needs. I'm trying to get them to see the danger they're in and lead them away from the edge of that cliff that maybe they're completely unaware that they're standing next to and lead them into the green pastures and by the still waters.
of Jesus. So sometimes we have to say things that cause people some consternation because we love them enough to keep them from running out in front of an oncoming semi-truck. And so we might raise our voice a little bit.
We might yell at them and say, look out, don't go there. That's dangerous. But that's what love looks like, too.
So we have to do what Jesus did. He was very kind, and he was also very firm. And sometimes he went into the temple and turned over the tables of the money changers.
So there's a whole spectrum of example that Jesus sets for us. as to how we should talk to folks, how we should treat folks, and what love looks like personified in the life of our Savior. Alright, great comments here.
Any other comments? We're just about out of time. Please come down with your callsign.
Alright, the net would like to acknowledge Dave, KE7WKI. Dave, see you there on the Hittite SDR. Dave, appreciate you being there with us this morning.
Alright, any other comments? Please come down. Alright, well we are nearly out of time.
We can go ahead and go to prayer if nobody has any further comments on our passage. I think that this one bears some careful thought, meditation and reflection. both as to what we are to do, we're to walk in love, and we're to be giving thanks, we're to be self-sacrificing, we're to imitate God, and things we're not supposed to do, sexual immorality, idolatry of material possessions, and filthy speech were to warn people that if they engage in those things as a pattern of life, they will not inherit the kingdom of God.
You know, verse 6 is a really important verse: "Let no man deceive you with vain words." There's lots of folks out there using vain words to deceive people into a false method of salvation. or into having indifference about salvation. And so we have to be careful not to be deceived.
And the way we're not deceived is that we measure what everyone says by what the Word of God has to say. And so there's this note of the wrath of God, verse 6, because of these things, the wrath of God. comes on the children that disobedience.
So part of the gospel message is not only love, it's also wrath. And we have to preach the wrath of God that is coming, and we're to flee from the wrath to come by fleeing to Jesus. And if there is no wrath, there's no reason to go to Jesus.
If there is no help, then there's no need to be saved from the consequences of our sin. And so we have to have that note, and it's not unloving to talk about the wrath of God and the need to be aware of it and to flee from it. So verse 7, be ye not therefore partakers with them.
So there's this note of separations. as well as this note of warning against the wrath of God to come. All right, great passage.
Are there any final prayer requests before we go to prayer? Please come down to your call sign. All right, well, let's go to prayer.
Our kind and gracious Father, we thank you so much for this passage today. Lord, lots to think about here. Help us to be imitators of God.
Help us to follow the example of Jesus, of laying down our lives for others. And help us to understand that walking in love means to speak the truth. about the danger that people are in, the destructive behavior that they are practicing, and of their need to flee from the wrath to come.
And then, of course, telling them about Jesus and the redemption that is there, the forgiveness that is there, the reconciliation they can have with God through repentance of sin and faith in Jesus. And so, Father, help us to realize that our moral behavior matters and that if we are going to claim to be Christians, Then there are certain behaviors we need to depart from. There are certain behaviors we need to engage in because those are the natural outflow of saving faith in Jesus.
Father, we want to bring before you today our brother Mark, KJ7PVT, his wife Margie. Thank you. Lord, they're on a trip to Montana.
Lord, I pray that you bring them safely home, and I pray that they'd be able to rejoin the net here before long. Lord, we just thank you for our brother Cody, Ki7TRF, who checked in this morning. And Lord, he's struggling with diverticulitis.
Lord, I pray that you would heal that inflammation. And Lord, I pray that he would know peace. in his body and normalcy in the function of his intestine.
Lord, just give him wisdom as to how to best manage that. And Lord, I pray that you would give him victory over it. We pray for his niece Zoe.
Thank you that she seems to be living a stable life. But Lord, we pray for her salvation. Lord, we just pray that she would not make bad choices that would haunt her the rest of her life.
But Lord, help her to move towards Jesus and to have faith in him and to follow him and to trust in him for her salvation. Lord, give Cody wisdom in ministering to Zoe and also Zoe's grandparents. Father, we know they've been a good influence on her.
May she seek their counsel and follow that. Father, we want to pray for our brother Dan in 6T&I. Lord, he can't swivel his head right or left because of his neck pain.
And Lord, I just pray that you would resolve that. Whatever is going on there, I pray that those muscles would relax and that those nerves would be released. And Lord, he would be able to have freedom of motion in his neck.
Lord, we pray for our brother Roger, WB7BCL, as he ministers to Levi. Lord, we pray for Levi's salvation and for Roger to have wisdom in talking with him. Lord, we know that Daylene is getting right to the end of her radiation treatments for her breast cancer.
Lord, may those be effective in eliminating any final remaining cancer. And Lord, we just rejoice over the fact that not only has Autumn found a new place to live, but that she seems to be having peace and freedom from fear. We pray for Autumn's salvation.
We thank you that she gave Daylene a hug. And Lord, we pray that she would find peace. in Jesus and in walking with him.
Lord, deliver her from the false teaching she's gotten. And Lord, I pray that she would understand the Bible and the gospel it contains and the Savior that it presents and that Autumn would be saved. Father, we continue to pray for Steve W6YSI to have wisdom and caring for his mother, Marilyn.
And Lord, we pray for her that she would not only restore her health, but enable her to adapt to the living situation that she's in now. And, Lord, we pray that you would minister to her needs in her later years. Lord, we continue to pray for our sister Sandy, WF7SAB, and her healing from her hip surgery.
Lord, we're grateful that she's made as much progress as she has. Lord, just bring that to full recovery. Lord, we pray for our brother Jerry, KG6J.
Father, we thank you that he's able to get around a little bit without a cane. Lord, I pray that you would just continue to meet his health needs and that whatever issues he's dealing with in his life, Father, may they be resolved in a way that brings blessing to him and glory to you. Father, we continue to pray for Doc W6RLJ for his serious health problems.
and also for the establishment of a dental clinic on Fiji. Lord, may that be accomplished. Father, we pray for our brother Daryl, WB7AOT, neck control for the Midwest Bible Study.
Lord, just continue to bring healing in his life from his urology issues. And, Lord, I pray that he would have a full function and a complete recovery from the surgery that he experienced. Father, we just want to pray for Charles.
N-7-V-E-N. Lord, his marriage with his wife, Linda, needs to be strengthened. And I pray that you would strengthen that.
He was his son, Trevor, Father, who has had tongue and throat cancer. Father, may he know full recovery from that and freedom from any further cancer. Lord, strengthen Trevor's faith in his walk with you.
And Father, cause him to realize that negative providences are designed to work together for the good. of those who love the Lord. And so cause Trevor to love you, Father, to have faith in you and to have peace over this cancer that's come into his life.
Lord, we continue to pray for our dear brother Keith, WB7RKR. Lord, that he would have wisdom and strength in caring for his wife, Ronnie. Father, help them to have contentment in the situation he's in.
And Father, I pray that he would not chase against the struggles and difficulties of their older years, but Lord, he would just settle into them with the peace that passes all understanding and with joy. that these light afflictions are just for a moment, but their work of far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. And so, Father, just bless Keith and Ronnie.
Help them to have a good day today. Give Ronnie strength emotionally and physically and spiritually in caring for Ronnie. Father, we pray for Bert, W7RKD, his wife, Dani, and that her multiple sclerosis would continue to remain in remission.
Father, I just pray that Dani and Bert would know your blessing and that you would encourage their hearts today as they walk with you. Father, we just thank you so much for our brother Mike, W7TWO, making it back on the net. Father, we have a number of requests.
Lord, we think of Betty, whose husband, Doug, passed away October 4th. Father, continue to meet Betty's needs and give her strength and wisdom to carry on as a single person now, Father, and help her to know what she should and shouldn't do. And Lord, I just pray for your grace to surround her and that you would be a husband to this widow.
Father, we just pray for the remission of Mike's polio. Father, it's hard for him to get around. And Lord, I pray that you would just cause this polio to go back into remission like it did for so many years.
And Lord, may he know freedom of movement in his leg and back and diaphragm and just freedom from pain. Father, we thank you that his last blood test showed that the temporal arteritis was gone. Lord, may it continue to be gone in this new blood test that he's going to be getting in the near future.
And, Lord, I pray that you would help Mike to just be able to get off his prednisone over time. Lord, we know that's got to be tapered off in his heart. Lord, I just pray that you would facilitate that process.
Father, we pray for his sister Barbara. Lord, she's 97 years old. She needs salvation soon.
She'll be facing the wrath of God if she doesn't flee to Jesus. And so, Father, we pray for her salvation and also for Jake. Lord, we just pray for his salvation as well, that he would turn away from that rock and roll culture in which he's immersed, and that he would turn to Jesus and find Christ as the salvation.
Lord, thank you for the good news that Daryl has recovered from his heart problems. Lord, we pray that you continue to strengthen his heart. And, Father, for his salvation and for his walk with you.
Lord, we just praise you for this good report from now, KJ7QQH, that John is doing well with his maintenance chemotherapy. Lord, we're sorry to hear about this hailstorm, but Father, may it be a warning to all. of the wrath to come.
And that if this is what it looks like in the temporal realm, how much worse must it be in the eternal? And so, Father, we just pray that these hailstorms and these tornadoes would be taken seriously by people as your trumpet judgments, Father, that are calling them to repent. Father, we just want to thank you today for Glenn KJ7UMW.
Lord, we pray for him to obtain the medications that he needs for the pain, the chronic pain that he continues to deal with. Lord, thank you for the good report from Adam 6XOH that Eric is doing well in Israel. Lord, continue to keep him safe.
And Lord, all our troops, we think of the war in Iran and in Russia. in the remaining issues there in Gaza, Lord, and elsewhere in the world. Lord, we pray that you would bring peace, protection for the righteous, and destruction of the wicked, and that, Father, we would have a more stable and peaceful world going forward.
Father, we just want to pray for Thomas, that he would get this job as a crane operator, and Lord, he'd be able to support his family. So Lord, meet the needs there in Ed in 6XOH's life. Father, we just want to thank you so much for your goodness and for your mercy and for your grace to each one of us.
Thank you for the gift of your son, Jesus Christ. May we walk in love as Christ also loved us today. In Jesus' name we ask it.
Amen. All right, this is WB7MX, neck control for the West Coast Bible Study. I want to thank all the stations who checked in today.
and those who stood by to give us a clear operating frequency. We meet here seven days a week at 6 a.m. in order to read the scriptures, understand their meaning, message, and application, and then to pray for grace and mercy to be able to live out what we have learned and for God to meet the needs of those that are in our circle of fellowship.
I'll be returning this frequency now to regular amateur use. This is WB7MX. I'll be clear and standing by.
WB7MX. I'm yanking the device, Chuckle. Okay, we had a double there.
First Roger and then Beck. Roger, go ahead. I have some good news.
Darlene's going for her last radiation today. And we're just praising the Lord for your prayers and your support and the spiritual guidance thus far. She seems to be doing quite well.
Yeah, send Beck in there, I guess, over. - Yeah, praise the Lord for that. Glad Darlene's having her last radiation treatment.
That's a huge milestone. All right, Beck, Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee, go ahead with the joke of the day. Roger, we look forward to hearing a good report of the end result of all of that, that you won't have to go through that anymore.
What kind of music do mummies like best? What kind of music do mummies like best? Um...
Boy, I'm drawing a blank there. Anybody else want to give that a shot? Go ahead.
Rap. You got it, rap music. The music I hate the most.
Oh, yeah, rap music. That's good. That's great, Beck.
Yeah, no, I am not a fan of rap music. I have one for you, Beck. What's the least private place in the hospital?
The waiting room? ICU. Okay, yeah.
Thank you for the share. All right. Thank you for being there, Dax.
We appreciate you and Sandy and your fellowship and participation in the net. It's always a delight to hear your voice and to receive the good humor. that God has provided us with to bring joy to our heart.
All right, anybody else want to comment here? WB7MAX is standing by. - Well, I want to say we enjoy being here, and I'm sorry that I haven't been out here for like three or four days.
My sleeping schedules got messed up and I'm going to bed at 11 o'clock. And I've been waking up at 8 o'clock in the morning, 8:30 in the morning. And I've had so many days of 8 hours of sleep that last night I went to bed at 11 and I woke up at 4, about 4:30 this morning.
And I still feel like I had 8 hours sleep. Yeah, copy that. Well, I'm really pleased you're getting sleep and it's so important for the healing of your body.
That's all our healing takes place is when we're asleep. So I have to work at getting eight hours a night and if I don't, I sure, I know it. You know, I really pay the price for that.
So please that you're getting sleep. You just got to go to bed a little earlier brothers, so we can enjoy your fellowship here But anyway, whatever works for the two of you So you guys can get sleep. That's what's important.
I'm glad you're taking care of your health and so is sandy doing jumping jacks yet No, but she's motoring around pretty good. I've noticed since she's putting less weight on the Walker and standing up a little straighter and reaching out a little farther with her steps and And her therapist said that she's right on track. Don't overdo it.
Well, praise the Lord by that. You know, I had a good friend of mine who always used to say, "Inch by inch, it's a cinch." And what he was saying is little incremental progress is what it's all about. And, you know, just a little bit each day and, you know, in another six weeks she'll be looking back going, "What did I need that walker for?" So, Sandy, good for you.
Yeah, don't overdo it. Just keep working at it each day and let time do what time does. And that's gradually heal that body.
Alright, real good, Beck. Good to hear that report. Over.
Okay, well I just wanted to share. And I love you and look forward to talking with you tomorrow. Alright, God bless Beck.
Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee WB7MAX. Alright, anybody else want to chat? I'm here for you.
Oh, one more thing I wanted to add. My signal might be down in the mud for a while. My LA-1K has been acting up, saying that there's a problem with the voltage.
And this morning when I turned it on, the on and off switch sparked inside and the machine freaked out. So I got a feeling I'll be turning it in and I don't have a backup amplifier that I can run on 80 meter. Yeah, copy that.
How many watts are you putting into it? 30 watts and I'm only pushing about, oh. 750 out.
Yeah, I put 25 into mine and right now I'm running 560, 570, something like that out. Yeah, roger. Well, I talked with Mark when I bought this amplifier.
And he told me that it'll run 1200 watts, but you don't want to do it very long. And if you do push it like that a lot, then it won't last very long. It'll last up to 1000 watts, but you may need some repair later on.
And if I push 800 watts out of it, then I could run it forever and never have a problem. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Yeah, copy that.
That's the reason why I only run 25 watts into it and about 500 to 600 watts out, because as you're well aware, sometimes, like when I just prayed, I think I had it keyed up for 10 minutes straight. And so it has to do with the duty cycle, you know, that it has, and I try to not over-push it. And everybody seems to hear my signal fine.
So once you get much over about 500 watts, you don't gain all that much on the S meter. So 500 to 600 watts I think is about the sweet spot there, Beck. So maybe if you back off on the power just a hair, it might get happier, over.
Yeah, Roger, well, turning it on doesn't have anything to do with how much power I'm running. and that's when I'm having my problems, when I first fire up the amp. And, you know, only pushing 750 or 800 or so out of it, it should be able to take that and do just fine.
So I'm having an amp problem, and I'm just letting you know that I might be a weaky squeaky for a while. Copy that, no worries on that. We'll pick you up on the FDR or whatever.
So, okay, well let me know how that goes, because you and I have identical amps. And, you know, every once in a while when I'm talking on mine, it'll click off. It'll go, "Hi, S.W.R.", you know.
And I just release the mic button and then press it again, and it resets and it's just fine. So it's like some sort of transient voltage suddenly, you know, makes it unhappy, but that's the only problem I had with it, over. Yeah, Roger.
Well, I keep my SWRs down low, and I don't have that problem, and I listen to it because it's got a fan inside, and when I hear the fan go into the high-speed mode, that's when I shorten my settings so that way I can let it cool back down. Basically, when I've talked on this NIT, and I haven't really had any problems with it whatsoever, maybe four or five times it's gone in high speed mode, that's it. Yeah, I copy that.
Yeah, my SWR is really low, like it's 1.1 or 1.2, so I never have an issue with high SWR. My antenna is really resonant. I could run it without a tuner.
I do run a tuner, but I could run it without one. So, yeah, it's really strange when it says high SWR instantaneously. You know, it goes from like 1.1 to we're not going to operate because the SWR is too high.
Just in an instant, right? And then I release my mic button. and push it again, and I'm right back down to everybody's happy and everybody's transmitting just fine.
So I don't know what that's about. I should call up CalSTAR and ask them over. Yeah, Roger, they might have an answer for you.
I know I was having a problem, and I thought it was my tuner. and I had an AT2K, now I've got the 5K, and I thought it was my tuner, and he goes, "No, you're having an antenna problem, you're having an antenna problem." And I went ahead and ordered the 5K anyway because I was planning on getting the Alpha 9500, and, which I did, and when I dropped my antenna down, because it was gonna be really windy one day, that's when I noticed the wrapping that goes around the coil on the Hustler BT-6, For the 80 meter, it's a slug and it's got like shrink wrap around it. It's a really stupid idea And it was all melted away and water had gotten in the antenna So he was right and I spent extra money and I'm not gonna say I wasted it because I don't think the AT2K would handle the 1500 watts, the definite 1500 plus out of the alpha 9500, roger?
Yeah, copy that, no, you never waste money on antennas. You've got to have good antennas, I mean, everybody thinks, oh, I need to buy this radio and that radio, you can have a pretty poor radio, but if you've got a great antenna, you're still gonna do just fine. I've seen wonderful radios perform really poorly because people have bad antennas.
So if I were going to spend money, I'd spend money on an antenna first and on the radio second, over. Oh, Roger, well, I believe in a good radio. I buy all the H2 products.
And second is the antenna. I have not watched a movie entitled An Interview with God, so I really can't comment on that. You know, movies are as good as the theology of those who produce the movies.
And a lot of so-called Christian movies don't have the greatest theology in them. And so I can't comment on that one in particular. But overall, I'm fairly disappointed with so-called Christian movies.
Back to you there, Jerry. Roger. And I can understand that.
And many times when they're, what am I trying to say? In an attempt to make a movie that's entertaining, they will add to what actually happens in Scripture to make it more interesting. And sometimes they'll have a disclaimer, like with The Prince of Egypt.
They have a disclaimer that they have taken artistic license, And I don't know, I really enjoy it and I've watched it a few times. It's on Amazon. But back to you.
Yeah, Jerry, understood. And I recognize that there has to be some additional dialogue put in. in order to make the story flow and the characters seem realistic.
It's just the judgment that is used as to what is put in and how that actually works out. So, you know, I watched a movie the other day called A Great Awakening. The letter A and then Great Awakening.
A Great Awakening. It's in the movie theaters and it's about George.
========== ### Scripture Reading (KJV) Ephesians 5:1-7 > Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as it becometh saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
### Study Summary The study of Ephesians 5:1-7 focuses on the practical application of salvation, emphasizing the importance of walking in love and living a life that reflects Christ. The passage begins with a call to imitate God as beloved children (Ephesians 5:1). This is a unique and profound command, as it contrasts with the world's values and pagan gods. The idea is that just as children imitate their parents, believers should imitate God's moral behavior.
The concept of walking in love is further developed in Ephesians 5:2, where believers are encouraged to walk in love as Christ also loved us. This sacrificial love is illustrated by Christ's offering of Himself as a sacrifice for us, as seen in John 3:16 and Romans 5:8. The passage also calls for a life of thanksgiving, contrasting it with negative actions such as fornication, uncleanness, covetousness, filthiness, foolish talking, and jesting (Ephesians 5:3-4). These actions are not fitting for saints and have no place in the life of a believer.
The study also includes a warning against deception (Ephesians 5:6), emphasizing that the wrath of God comes upon those who engage in such behaviors. The passage concludes with a call to separate from sin, urging believers not to be partakers with those who engage in these actions (Ephesians 5:7).
Throughout the discussion, the importance of setting a good example was highlighted, much like parents do for their children. The speaker emphasized the audacity of imitating God and the importance of sacrificial love, which is not based on emotional intensity but on a selfless commitment to others, as seen in Philippians 2:4. The study also touched on the importance of clean speech and behavior, contrasting clean humor with the filthy humor often found in modern entertainment. The speaker encouraged the group to expose themselves to godly examples and to read Christian biographies to maintain a godly perspective.
Questions and comments from the group further emphasized the importance of imitation and the company one keeps, with Proverbs 13:20 reminding us that walking with wise men makes us wise. The discussion concluded with a reminder of the audacity of imitating God and the importance of sacrificial love in our lives. ==========
