### Bible Study Summary: Galatians 3:1-14

#### Opening Remarks
The study began with a reflection on God's sovereignty in opening and closing doors, drawing a parallel to the experiences of Paul and Silas. This theme was particularly relevant to Jeff's situation, where the group encouraged him to trust in God's intentions and plans for his life. The discussion also touched on the importance of clear communication, noting the technical issues with signal quality and voice clarity, which can sometimes obscure the message.

#### Prayer Requests
Before delving into the study, the group shared several prayer requests. Keith asked for the restoration and reuniting of a couple, hoping for healing and reconciliation. Carol provided an update on Scott's absence at a trappers convention, expressing concern and asking for his safety and well-being. Brian requested a prosperous and easy lambing season, highlighting the importance of divine provision and protection in agricultural endeavors.

#### Bible Study Overview
The passage for discussion was Galatians 3:1-14, a section that transitions from gospel teaching to a deeper exploration of covenant theology. This passage is closely paralleled in Romans, where Paul delves into the themes of salvation and covenant doctrine. The study aimed to explore the contrast between salvation by faith and salvation by works, emphasizing the pivotal role of faith in the Christian life.

#### Reading and Discussion
The group read Galatians 3:1-14 together, focusing on the core message of salvation by faith. Paul challenges the Galatians, questioning how they received the Spirit—by faith or by works. This question underscores the importance of understanding that faith, not works, is the means of salvation. The discussion then moved to Abraham's faith preceding circumcision and the law, emphasizing that faith was the foundation of his righteousness, not his actions.

The group also discussed the concept of being "bewitched" or misled, highlighting the need to test teachings against Scripture. This is a critical reminder for believers to stay grounded in the Word of God and not be swayed by false teachings. The crucifixion of Christ was also discussed, with emphasis on the power of faith to see and understand this pivotal event. The group reflected on how Christ's fulfillment of the law contrasts with the law's inability to save, reinforcing the centrality of faith in salvation.

#### Prayer
The study concluded with a prayer for various individuals and situations. Participants asked for housing needs, health issues, and successful surgeries, emphasizing the importance of divine guidance and provision. The group also prayed for spiritual growth and discernment, asking for the wisdom to recognize and adhere to God's truth.

#### Closing
The session ended with acknowledgment of the participants and their prayer requests, reflecting on the importance of community and support in navigating life's challenges. The group also addressed the technical issues, noting the need for clear communication to ensure the message is effectively conveyed. Plans for future meetings were discussed, with a focus on continuing to explore key biblical themes and fostering a deeper understanding of God's Word.

#### Themes and Discussion Questions
- **God's Sovereignty**: How does the idea of God opening and closing doors apply to your life? Can you think of a time when you experienced this?
- **Salvation by Faith vs. Works**: What does it mean to receive the Spirit by faith rather than by works? How can we ensure we are not relying on our own efforts for salvation?
- **Testing Teachings**: How can we test the teachings we hear against Scripture? What are some signs of false teachings?
- **Crucifixion and Faith**: How does faith enable us to see and understand the significance of Christ's crucifixion? How does this impact our daily lives?
- **Law and Salvation**: How does the law's inability to save contrast with Christ's fulfillment of the law? What does this teach us about the nature of salvation?

This Bible study not only delved into the rich theological themes of Galatians but also provided practical insights for navigating life's challenges with faith and discernment.

Everybody was so sidetracked over there, it was very hard to talk to anybody. And I'll resolve that as we go. Alright, well you know, Jeff, sometimes God opens doors and sometimes He closes them. And I think about Paul and Silas wanting to go to various places and the Holy Spirit forbade them. Then they wound up going over to Macedonia and preaching to the Philippians and the Thessalonians. So, you know, when God closes a door, He opens others. And, you know, it's just a matter of discovering what His intentions are. And sometimes they're not what our intentions were, but we can trust Him with reference to that stuff. And, you know, His work will proceed as He sees fit. And we just have to wait on Him and look for new directions. So I'm sorry that your expectations weren't fulfilled. But we could just have to trust God with that and continue to press forward. Jeff, go ahead. Absolutely. And I'm not discerning in any way. God is good, Max. Any distortion on my signal or anything? Yeah, your voice seems a little muffled. Certainly not as clear as it used to be. So I'm not impressed with the signal that you're putting out right now. Over. Yeah, there -- well, you know what, I have that on too. Yeah, I've got a lot of work to do here. I just got this started, Joe. Okay, thank you for the report, Matt. Yeah, you are readable, but the voice quality is less than stellar. So anyway, real good. Okay, that's Jeff, AK6OK. All right, the net would like to acknowledge -- Keith, K7NEB, Keith, I see you there on the Utah SDR. Keith, can you come back to me? Kilo 7, November Echo Bravo, how's the signal this morning, Matt? Okay, decent signal, readable. So anyway, Keith, appreciate you being there, and we got you checked in. Any prayer requests, Keith, go ahead. Yes, prayer request for a couple weeks now for 40 years and the husband walked out a year ago and it's just a matter of time. So prayer request. Okay. Okay, Keith, understand prayer request for a family where the husband walked out? And we need to pray for their restoration and reuniting. You faded out there at the last because of the band. But anyway, we will pray for that couple. Keith, go ahead. Roger, you got it. Thank you, man. All right, real good. Let me make a note to myself here. Here we go. Kauai WB7MAX here, let's see, I see Carol, KK7TPO, Carol come back to me Good morning, Captain. Yes, I hear no new car requests. But I have a question if you heard from Scott? Yes. Scott has been gone for a few days. He went up to a trappers convention in eastern Oregon. And so we haven't heard from him. He did send a text message saying that's where he was. So yeah, waiting for him to show up here, but have not heard from him. So I'll probably text him today and see if he's back or what's going on with him. So anyway, Carol, go ahead. Okay, KJ7, we have to know your service call for this. Alright, real good Carol, no new prayer request, copy that, got you checked in. Okay, I see Brian, KJ7 PWM, good morning Brian, how you doing? Good morning, good morning. Can you hear me? Everything is going good here on the farm. Probably not sick, but we've got some good news. News that are fresh. Yeah, okay, real good. Well, yeah, Brian is in the middle of having lambs, and he's been sending me pictures of his cute new little lambs. Brian, glad things seem to be going well there so far. Any prayer requests there, Brian? Go ahead. We could just continue for a prosperous and easy lambing season for us. This is the first lambing season, so we're going to have a nice few days. Whatever is next, we're good. No regrets. All right, real good. We'll continue to pray for the lambing season. Alright, WB7MAX looking for check-ins, please come down with your call sign. Comment. Call me, go ahead. This is K2KJX, Darrell, WB7AOT was trying to check in. Thank you, appreciate that relay a lot. Darrell, WB7AOT, come back to me. Alright, Darrell, I was able to pick you up on the Utah STR. We got you checked in. Appreciate you being there. And George, K2KJX, thank you for the relay. Much appreciated. Okay, let me make a note to myself and I'll be right back with you. All right, this is WB7MAX, I see Will, K5F, good morning Will. Good morning, okay, I'm 5F, no new prairie class. Just trying to wake up. No new prairie class, Will, we got you checked in, appreciate you being there. All right, other check-ins, please come now. Max, where did we end up in the drywall here? Yeah, copy that. We are in Galatians chapter 3 verses 1 to 14 today. Galatians 3:1 to 14, over. Okay, thank you. All right, the net would like to acknowledge JR. JR is our Half Moon Bay SDR. That's K6LBP. Good morning, JR. Good to have you with us. Appreciate you being there. And let's see, I think that's all we have on the half of the day that everyone else has already checked in there. Let me check my Utah STR here, going through the list. And I think we have everyone. All right, any last-minute check-ins, please come now. K6LBP, good morning, Vastor Max. Well, there he is, J.R., good voice. How are you doing? I'm doing well, sir. Thank you, and I hope you and yours are doing well also. I have no new prayer requests, but I think it might be a good time to ask everyone to pray for all God's creation. Yeah, amen. Amen for sure on that one. You know, you've been having us pray for Gary, a W6GLB who had stage 4 cancer. He's receiving immunotherapy. How's Gary doing? Gary is doing fantastic, Max. Thanks for asking and thanks for the prayers. The immunotherapy on this type of cancer that he's got has been miraculous. He was actually over here, as you may know, The recent storm here, the ice storm, really wiped out my antenna farm. And Gary was over here last Saturday helping me with some of my antenna work. He went home a little bit early, but he's doing very well. A miracle work. Yeah, real good, J.R. Really glad to hear that report about Gary. So we'll continue to pray for him, but that's very encouraging how God's answering prayer. All right, you have a great signal. Whatever you did to your antenna farm, you got it up and working, and it's working well. Good voice quality here at the West Coast Bible Study. All right, that's J.R., W6LBP. All right, any other check-ins, please come down. All right, I am not hearing from Roger WB7BZL, but maybe he'll check in in a little bit. All right, we're going to get started with our West Coast Bible study, and we'll keep like five o'clock, I'm going to ask you to open in prayer when the time comes, but I want to talk a little bit about our passage here, and we're going through a bit of a transition now in Galatians. In chapters 1 and 2, we saw Paul teaching on the gospel. He reproved them for their departure from the gospel, and he made it real clear that the gospel he was preaching, he had received directly from Jesus Christ. He wasn't taught it by their apostles. And then we saw that in chapter 2, his gospel was vindicated by the apostles. And as he related to them what Christ had taught him directly, they said, "Yeah, that's the same thing he taught us." And so they embraced him as an equal with themselves. And then, of course, Paul closed out the second chapter with a declaration of the gospel of justification by faith alone. And that was stated very clearly in verses 15 through 21, which we ended up with yesterday. Well, the transition now is Paul begins to start teaching on the issue of the covenant. And he reaches back to the Old Testament, and he talks about Abraham and how he was justified by faith. And then, of course, he's going to talk about, which we're not going to talk about today, but he's going to talk about the relationship between the Abrahamic covenant and the Old Covenant towards the end of this chapter, and the relationship between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. And so there's some discussion about that in chapters 3 and 4 towards the end. So that's kind of where we're at. What's interesting, and I think it's useful for us to point out, is the parallels between the Book of Romans and the Book of Galatians. And the book of Galatians is really kind of a summary of many of the things that are taught in the book of Romans. So, for example, you see Paul in Romans chapter 4 reaching back and talking about Abraham. When was Abraham saved and how was he saved? He was saved before he was circumcised and he was saved by faith. And later on he was circumcised. So he is the spiritual progenitor of not only the Jews but also the Gentiles. So anyway, he goes back and he picks up this discussion about Abraham here in Galatians. So Romans is the extended setting forth of the doctrine that is contained in the book of Galatians, not only with reference to the doctrine of salvation, but also with reference to the Doctrine of the Covenant. All right, so that's kind of where we're at. We're going to be reading chapter 3, verses 1 to 14, and I'm going to ask Will, KLA-5 Foxtrot, Will, could you open in prayer for us today, please? KLA-5, this is Will. I'm reading from KLA-95. Gracious Heavenly Father, we thank you for this day and for the blessings of the day. We ask for your blessings and guidance on those that are not with us, that should be. We pray for each and every one of us. We ask for your blessings on those that have health issues, Lord, and for other issues that we may have during our daily lives. We just thank you for being able to come together. and study Your Word. We thank You for this section today that will be on faith and contrasting with the law. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Amen. Well, thank you so much. It's quite a long section. I think that I will read it today. And I'll be reading out of the King James Version. So anyway, follow along then as I read Galatians 3, verses 1-14. Galatians 3, verse 1. O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, received you the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith. Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now made perfect by the flesh? Have you suffered so many things in vain? Is it thee yet in vain? He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. In the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel of Abraham, saying, And these shall all nations be blessed. So then, they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse. verse 1 shall live in them. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree, that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ. that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. All right, there is our passage. Any comments on this passage? Please come down to the call sign. Kevin, KB7ZX, go ahead. Well, I hesitated. I thought maybe somebody else might step in, but I'll get the ball rolling here. This is such rich text, and I think important text, and I'm glad we have an opportunity to look into it. You know, sometimes when you first read Galatians, it may sound a little bit repetitive, but as you kind of examine things closer, you see Paul make some very important points, and arguments throughout that all come together as one real God-inspired presentation of the gospel and clarification of the gospel. And in here, he starts out with five questions to the Galatians, challenging them, you know, saved by works were you did you get the gift of the holy spirit by works was well of course not they know that that's not true now keep in mind after you know he and barnabas came and they planted all these churches and word got back to jerusalem the judaizers came up through the area and and said well you know all that's well and good and jesus is certainly uh you know uh important but first you have to become a Jew first. First you have to, you know, because the Jews are God's chosen people, and so you really have to kind of become a Jew and follow some of the law to also be saved. Well, Paul rejects that most emphatically, as we've seen here from the beginning of the epistle to the Galatians all the way to now. But here, now he's making a transition and going back into the Old Testament. He's really, I think, addressing the Judaizers themselves. And so he goes right straight to Abraham, the progenitor of the Jewish faith. He was before them all. And he even points to an event in Hebrews 15, 6, where 14 years before he was circumcised, he points to the faith of Abraham, believing in the promise of God. And he points to this guy and says, I will build a nation and enable... you know, people in the old number, you'll be the father of more than the stars, you know, people more than the stars. And this is important because he lets him know in no uncertain terms, well, that does go too, that it is Abraham's faith, long before circumcision, long before the law, that it would count unto him for righteousness. In other words, he's saying, He's saying, look, it's always been faith. And he points to those faiths throughout the Old Testament. And here's something that probably really enraged the Judaizers. As he says, it's always faith. It's always been faith. And it's faith from the Old Testament in those that trusted in God's promise. And those in faith today that trust in God's promise, they look forward to the promise of the coming of the Messiah. We have the benefit of trusting Christ who did came. So the question is, do you believe salvation is something we achieve or is it a gift that we receive? And it's one or the other. And Paul makes it very clear that it's something that we received, that the faith was counted to Abraham for righteousness. All of those in the Old Testament that were saved, as we see through Hebrews 11, is an example of a list of many through the Old Testament that were saved by faith. And that hasn't changed. And I'll leave it there for the moment. KB7, is that acceptable? Yeah, Kevin, real good. Thank you for that. I really like that last statement you made. Is salvation a gift we receive, or is it a reward that we achieve? I think that's what you said. But the point is, is salvation by faith, or is it by works? That's the grand question. And of course, that's the question that he dealt with all through Chapter 1, all through Chapter 2, and now he's dealing with it all through Chapter 3. Right. And so the question is, you know, what are we trusting in for the forgiveness of our sins? Are we trusting in our performance, or are we trusting in the performance of Christ? Are we trusting in ourselves, or are we trusting in Jesus? And, you know, this summary statement in verse 11 says, I think really summarizes the argument here, that no man is justified by the law, that is, by the works of the law, in the sight of God, it is evident. For, and then he quotes the Old Testament here, in Habakkuk 2 and verse 4, the just shall live by faith. So it's through faith that we obtain eternal life. It's by faith that we live the Christian life. And... Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. And so faith is what provides a trust in another, namely Jesus Christ, and it's what brings salvation from Christ to us by grace we save through faith. So, yeah, Kevin, I like the fact that you pointed out here these five rhetorical questions. And that's one of the good ways to deal with argumentation is, okay, let's ask some questions here. And you take people's statements and you follow them out to their logical conclusions. And if you don't like the conclusions, then maybe the statements aren't right. So good comments, Kevin. Thank you for that. All right, any other comments in the passage? Please come down. K2KJX, November Echo Bravo. Okay, we had a double there. We got K2KJX, and we've also got Kilo 7 November Echo Bravo. George, we're going to go with you first, and then Keith will go with you. Go ahead there, George. Yeah, I really like Delay Shins. It's one of my favorites, maybe after Romans. Yeah. I love this phrase, "O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you?" And I looked it up in Greek, and there's a few different definitions there, including the sweet pill of one. But my question is, do you think that they maybe have gone astray? and believed maybe in works as opposed to the cross? Or do you think that somebody has come in there and led them astray? - Yeah, I think it's real clear, George, that someone came in and led them astray. I don't think this was spontaneous arising from the believers in the church at Galatia. Because if you go back, George, and look at chapter one, In verse 6 and 7, he says in verse 6, I marveled that you were so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ to another gospel. And now he tells us how that happened in verse 7, which is not another, but there be some that trouble you and would pervert the gospel of Christ. So apparently, George, there were outside teachers who came in, and began persuading them to believe a different gospel other than the one Paul had preached to them. And so what's wrapped up in these rhetorical questions here, when he says in verse 1, O foolish Galatians, who? has bewitched you. He's saying, who are these people? You know, are they people who have credibility? Are they people who accurately represent the teachings of Scripture and the gospel of Jesus Christ? Or are they representing some other gospel? So, George, I think it's pretty clear it came from outside. Back to you there, George. Okay, Roger. Yeah, thanks. Because I always loved that little phrase, "Who would be with you?" And I never really looked it up to see what that word meant. But, yeah, it's quite obvious from your explanation that somebody came in and said, "Who would No, this is how we're supposed to be. And they fell for it. And so my other question is, how do we prevent from being bewitched in this case and not follow another gospel because we're all deep and gone astray. and going our own way. And we are not really... We could be persuaded. I guess I'll leave it at that. We could be persuaded from somebody else's doctrine. Hopefully I'm not talking too close to the mic. And we could be persuaded to believe another gospel. Over. Over. Yeah, that's exactly right. And we have to be on guard against that. And the way to be on guard against that is to test any claim and any teaching by the teaching of the Scripture. You know, George, it says in Isaiah chapter 8 and verse 20, it says, To the law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word, it's because there is no light in them. And so what Isaiah is saying is, go look at God's written revelation. And if what they're saying doesn't square up with that, then it is false teaching. And I think the way for us to not get caught up in a false gospel, of which there are many floating around these days, is to know the scriptures because they're the source of authority. Jesus said in John 17, 17, Sanctify them by thy truth. Thy word is truth. And so the scriptures are the touchstone by which we test the claims of every Bible teacher. That includes me. That includes everyone else. So the way to protect yourself, George, from being seduced or bewitched or deceived is to know the Bible well enough so that when somebody is teaching something contrary to it, you immediately recognize that, well, that's not what the Bible says. And, you know, we've got to take what the Bible says. We've got to take what it means. And then we've got to compare the teaching with that. I think, George, of the Bereans there in Acts chapter 17, where Paul came to the town of Berea, and he is preaching. And it says they received his preaching with all readiness in mind. They listened carefully. They reflected thoughtfully. And then it says they searched the scriptures daily. to see whether those things that Paul was teaching was true. And so even Jesus said in John chapter 5, Search for scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me. So even Jesus said, Put my teachings to the test of scripture. So the scriptures are the antidote. The scriptures are the protection. from ever falling into a false gospel. And of course, at this stage in history, the New Testament hadn't been written yet, and that's why Paul is writing these things, to bring them back to the truth. So great question there, George. Appreciate that. Anything else, George, before we move on to Keith? No further. Thank you for your answer. All right. That brings us to Keith, K7NEB. Good morning, Keith. And what's your comment? Go ahead. K7 and then you see, I'm just looking at Earth 2 and really underline that. It's one of those light platforms that's built in. And each thing is a very, uh, well, no different from a mass. It is used to be looked by light. And I would say it's a very simple process. You can still see the mass. And I'm reacting by mass and then reacting by theory. I What is the gospel about? Fill that. All these people, all these people, what I'm going to do today is to tell you that God, and Jesus, and the Lord, and faith alone, is so simple thing. You know, it's a spirit. You can deviate from that very simple live, and you get that. You get that. And that's what we get done. We get foolishness. We all run into, whether it's in the collection, or it's like today, you know, Yeah, real good. Thank you for that, Keith. Appreciate that comment. Yeah, verse 2, this is only what I learned of you. Received you the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith. And, you know, like you say, that's a mic drop moment right there. That question answers itself, doesn't it? When the Galatians were saved and received the gift of the Holy Spirit, they received it under the teaching and the gospel of Paul. And that teaching and gospel was very clear that we are saved by faith in Jesus Christ, as it says in chapter 2 and verse 16. So it's like, well, if this is how you started out, and you started out well, and you received the Spirit of God and were born again and transformed and reconciled to God and redeemed, now you think you need something different? And so this is a great rhetorical question that kind of answers itself. And, you know, verse 3, are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now made perfect by the flesh? So the idea is that, you know, you don't change horses in the middle of the stream. And what he's doing here is he's saying, look, you started out this way and now you're going to go a different way. And you know the way you started out brought you redemption and reconciliation and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Why do you think you need something different now? So, Keith, great comment. Thank you for that. All right, other comments. Please come out. Dropping a B7 of EZL. There he is! Good morning Roger, got you checked in and we'll hear your comment. Go ahead. I apologize. I ended up drinking something that I've never drunk before. It's supposed to be a whole mixture of good things. I don't know. It affected me. First one... How did you unpack that? I haven't looked at a commentary on this, but how do you unpack verse 1 about the "I was publicly portrayed" whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? And tell me about how to unpack that one. Yeah, well, obviously they're over in Galatia, right? So they didn't see the actual crucifixion. But what Paul is saying here is that in his descriptions of the crucifixion, his preaching about the crucifixion with his words, Christ was set before them. as crucified, and of course, therefore, as the one who had provided a substitutionary atonement. And so what he's saying is that in his preaching, he had set Christ before them crucified, and they had looked to Christ crucified as their Savior from sin. And it's like they've completely forgotten what they saw with the eye of faith, as it was verbally described to them in the preaching of the Apostle Paul. Back to you, Roger. Roger Ailes: All right. Yeah. Okay. And of course, the power of the Holy Spirit to take that capability of imagination and move it into the Spirit. Over. Well, you know, we have to do that nowadays with all of the teaching of the Bible, right? We weren't there when the ark landed on Mount Ararat, but we can visualize that in our mind from the verbal description contained in the scriptures, and we can, if you will, see it. in our mind's eye. And it's the same way with the crucifixion. We see it in our mind's eye from the verbal description that's given. And the verbal description is so powerful that it is as though we are there. And so the sight of faith, I know it says we walk by faith and not by sight. That's talking about physical sight. But faith has eyes. And the fact that faith has eyes, Roger, is set out quite frequently in Hebrews chapter 11. It says in Hebrews 11, 13, Now here it is. and were persuaded of them and embraced them and confessed they were strangers and pilgrims in the earth. So they looked for a country, they looked for a city whose builder and maker is God, and they could see it in the verbal promises. So that's what's being talked about here. Back to you, Roger. Yeah, I like what we did this weekend. Oh, that powerful word of God spoken in tongues. Yeah, exactly. What you were doing with the Lamb of God presentation is you were setting Jesus Christ crucified and resurrected before the eyes of the people. And they were able to see, as it were, that whole event unfolding before them as was verbally described. All right. Any other comments? Please come down with your call sign. All right, Ashton. Okay, I heard somebody out there. Can somebody give me a relay? KB7 is that extent? KB7 is that extent. Go ahead. Yeah, Ben's a little iffy. But good comments and good thoughts and just a great discussion on this text. I wanted to also kind of continue on too from the text here. Because one of the principles that Paul is making here to the Judaizers as he points to Abraham, you know, as the grandfather of their faith, long before the law, his faith was counted to him. Long before circumcision, his faith was counted to him. But he makes the point also that it was God's plan. It is God's plan from the beginning. that salvation was to come to all nations. And this is embedded in the promise of Abraham as well. And this is not pointing to a replacement theology, because there's too much biblical text that counters that and clarifies that, but it points to the fact that it is always God's plan from the very beginning that salvation would come to every people, to all nations, to everyone that would call upon the name of the Lord. And as you well pointed out, Max, the promise to them was of the coming Messiah and that God would provide. a Christ, a Christ who's a Messiah, one that would pay the price of sin. And I think Habakkuk 2-4 must be one of Paul's favorite verses. Because as you pointed to, the just shall live by faith. And we see him quote that three times in the New Testament. You know, in Romans where the emphasis is on the just. And in Hebrews where the emphasis is on the faith. But here where the emphasis is on living. And the just shall live by faith. And then, too, he talks about the law and the role of the law and how the law cannot save anyone, but it condemns us. As James pointed out in 2.10, you know, if you try to keep the law and you fail in one part, You're accountable for all the law. He's pointing to Leviticus here. Have you kept all of the law? You can't. It's a mirror to us. We see our failures. We see our reflections. but if you try to keep any of it, you're going to be held accountable to all of it. If you break it, you own it. And, you know, it's so we can't. But, again, the Christ... did though. He fulfilled the law. He came as a sacrifice on our behalf. And, you know, reflecting on this week and Easter coming just briefly, you know, we often think of the physical anguish and punishment and brutality that was put upon our Lord during the meetings and crucifixion. But I believe what grieved him most was the spiritual consequences that he took God's wrath upon himself for us. That wrath that belongs to us, that wrath that the law condemns us for because we cannot keep the law. no matter our best efforts and even if you are able to keep most of the law but Jesus points out it's not even just the physical part of the law but the spiritual intent of the law and there's no way but God submitted His wrath upon our Lord and Savior, that we might have freedom in Christ, that the penalty of our sin was paid for. And I'll leave it there. Tippi Sevens, that example. Yeah, thanks for pointing out the contrast between salvation by faith and salvation by works which involve keeping the law. And you notice verse 6, it says, "Even as Abraham," notice, "believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness." So he was saved by faith. But then, verse 10 sets the contrast. "For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse." For it is written, cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. And so, Kevin, as you well said, if you're going to be saved by works, you've got to be perfect. You've got to obey the law not only externally with your hands, but even internally in your hearts. And no one has done that. No one can do that. We read in Romans chapter 3 that by the law is the knowledge of sin. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. There's none righteous, no, not one. And so it's futile to think that my performance is going to get me into heaven because I've obeyed God's law perfectly. No one has, no one can, no one will, and so God has provided an alternative means of salvation that actually does work, and that's by Jesus' perfect law-keeping. I mean, the law has to be kept for people to be saved. It's just that we can't do it ourselves. Jesus does it. He had 100% obedience, and then that righteousness He obtained by that 100% obedience, He then gives to us as a gift. Right. He imputes His righteousness to us. And, of course, all of our sins and violations of that law, those are all imputed to Jesus. And so we got His righteousness. He got our punishment. And that's the reason why we can be justified before God. And so verse 11, that no man is justified by the law on the side of God is evident. Because how does justification come? It comes by faith. It came by faith in Abraham, Habakkuk 2:4 says it comes by faith. And over and over again, the Old Testament says salvation is by faith, it's not by the works of the law. And God is the one who gives us righteousness. Their righteousness is of me, says one passage. And so, Kevin, thank you for pointing out that contrast between these two different methods of salvation. One in which God saves us, and the other is which we save ourselves by adding something to what God has done for us. All right, we are getting close to being out of time, but we have time for another comment. Anybody else want to comment, please come down. Okay, thanks. I'm going to go ahead and call it out now. Okay, we got AK6OK and somebody else that sounded like Donald Duck, so they're off frequency. Okay, Jeff, AK6OK, go ahead. Hey, in verse 1, I love it how Eugene Peterson translates this. I have a real problem with King. I don't know what it is. Anyway, did somebody put a spell on you? Have you taken a leave of your sentence? Something crazy has happened for us. Obviously, it's obvious that you no longer have the crucified Jesus in your life. His sacrifice on the cross has certainly set before you clearly enough. And then down in 11, I was struck by one sentence here. It's obvious. The obvious impossibility of carrying out such a moral program should make it plain that no one can sustain a relationship with God that way. The person who lives in right relationship with God does it by embracing what God arranges for him. That struck me kind of wildly because that's what God does. He arranges things. things that which I of course discovered on this trip last week. Doing things for God is the opposite of entering into what God does for you. Go ahead there, Matt. Yeah, thanks, Jeff. I completely agree. Good reading there and good explanation of the text and certainly agree with the explanation that he provided in that translation. And you're right. You know, it's interesting the language that Paul uses here. He says, "Oh foolish Galatians." And I think you said, "Have you guys gone crazy?" And, you know, there comes a point in time where you have to point out the reality of what people are doing. It might sound harsh, but the point is, is that it's true. And so, you know, we see Jesus saying, oh, fools, it's so hard to believe all that the prophets have written. And we see Paul doing that here. So there comes a point in time where people get so far out of line with reference to an idea that you just have to call it out for what it is. that that is ridiculous. It's not even logical. It's not sensible. Come back to your senses is the idea there. Okay, there was another station that had a comment. Other station, please come down. KJ7 PVT. Mark, you're out there. Okay, Mark, KJ7 PVT. Thank you for that relay. Mark, go ahead. Copy that. You can save that for tomorrow and we will let you talk first. And thank you, Mark, for that. Yeah, this is a passage that has a lot of complex argumentation in it. It's kind of a big bite, but at the same time it was a single thought unit, so we dealt with that. All right, Mark, we got you on the schedule for tomorrow. Okay, the net would like to recognize Dan, N6T and I. Dan, I've seen you there for a while on the Half Moon Bay SDR, but forgot to call your name out. Alright, any other comments? Please come down. ZXN. Alright, any final prayer requests before I go to prayer? Please come down. Kevin had a comment. Okay, Kevin, KB7ZXN, you had a comment. Go ahead. Yeah, just briefly, KB7's Edickson enjoys very much the rich discussion. I just wanted to briefly touch on verses 13 and 14, that Christ has redeemed us from the law and became the curse for us. He redeemed us from the curse of the law and became the curse for us. And by hanging on a tree that we might enjoy the promise of Abraham and with the spirit and the hope of the Messiah. Maybe seven seconds. Thanks, Sam. Thank you. you you you you Through faith in Jesus Christ plus nothing. Thank you, Father, that we don't need to add our own work to it, whether obedience to any New Testament commands or obedience to any Old Testament commands. Father, thank you that The Bible is clear, and as George said, I just pray that we would all be clear about what the gospel is, and that we would embrace the gospel that the Bible sets before us and not be bewitched or drawn away or seduced by false teachers who would cause us to have to add something of ourselves. the works of Jesus. May he look past this light affliction, which is but for a moment, and at that exceeding and eternal weight of glory that is awaiting all those who continue to trust in Jesus, even in the face of adversity. Father, I just pray for Charles and his wife, Ronnie. Pardon me, and his wife Linda, in this red there. Charles and his wife Linda, for their marriage to be strengthened. But it seems like a lot of large churches maybe small churches too, um, you can choose what they want to, uh, stand their ground on or believe in or, uh, and maybe it's in, in, in concert with, uh, Galatians chapter 3 also, but it, it seems like, uh, we, um, are so easily persuaded to look another way than what we believe is our gospel.
