### Bible Study Summary: Slander, Pastoral Ministry, and Prayer

#### Slander and Belief

In our study, we explored the theme of slander and the ease with which people can believe negative reports about others, even those they have known for years. The Bible teaches us to be cautious about accepting unverified negative information about others. This is a critical lesson in fostering a community of trust and integrity. In James 4:11-12, we are warned against speaking evil of one another, as it can lead to division and strife within the body of Christ. The passage emphasizes that judgment belongs to God alone, and we must be careful not to usurp His role.

**Discussion Questions:**
1. How can we guard against believing slanderous reports about others?
2. What are some practical steps we can take to promote a culture of trust within our communities?

#### Paul's Struggles

Paul's life was marked by both external and internal struggles. In 2 Corinthians 1:8-11, Paul describes his fightings and fears, which were alleviated by God's provision of relief. This passage is a powerful reminder that God is present in our trials and can provide comfort and strength. Despite the hardships he faced, Paul found solace in God's presence and provision. This is a testament to the enduring nature of faith and the importance of trusting in God's providence.

**Discussion Questions:**
1. How does Paul's experience of receiving relief from God in times of trouble encourage you?
2. Can you share a personal experience where you felt God's provision in a time of need?

#### Pastoral Ministry

The role of a pastor is not without its challenges. Pastors face constant attacks from slander and Satan, making their ministry a battleground of sorts. The importance of support and encouragement from the congregation cannot be overstated. In 1 Thessalonians 5:14, we are encouraged to "warn the unruly, comfort the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient with everyone." This passage highlights the need for a supportive community that stands with its leaders, offering encouragement and prayer.

**Discussion Questions:**
1. How can we better support our pastors and church leaders?
2. What are some ways we can pray for our pastors, considering the unique challenges they face?

#### Prayer Requests

Our study also included a variety of prayer requests from members of our community. These ranged from personal health concerns to family issues and even broader community challenges. Each request underscores the importance of prayer in our lives and the power of a united prayerful community. As we pray for one another, we are reminded of the strength that comes from communal faith and support.

**Discussion Questions:**
1. How can we ensure that we are regularly praying for one another?
2. What are some ways we can check in on those for whom we have been praying?

#### Pastoral Leadership

Pastors with multiple churches often find encouragement in different congregations, but single-church pastors may lack this relief. The importance of pastor's conferences for broader perspective and encouragement was highlighted. These conferences provide a platform for pastors to share experiences, receive counsel, and gain a broader perspective on their ministry. This is crucial for their well-being and effectiveness in their role.

**Discussion Questions:**
1. How can pastor's conferences benefit those who lead multiple churches?
2. What are some ways single-church pastors can find encouragement outside of their congregation?

#### Humor and Community

The study also included a light-hearted moment with a couple of jokes, reminding us of the importance of laughter and community. Humor can serve as a powerful tool for bringing people together and lightening the mood, especially in times of stress.

**Discussion Questions:**
1. How can humor be used to build community and foster a positive environment?
2. Can you share a joke or a funny story that has brought you and others closer together?

#### Closing

As we conclude, we are reminded of the importance of daily scripture reading, understanding, and prayer. The encouragement from Scott for Max's leadership and the greetings from Mark underscore the value of a supportive community. We are called to thank all participants and stations and to look forward to our next meeting, where we will continue to grow in our faith and support one another.

**Discussion Questions:**
1. How can we ensure that our meetings are a source of encouragement and growth for all participants?
2. What are some ways we can continue to foster a supportive and encouraging community outside of our meetings?

"Well, no." "Well then, you know, take me for who I've been." not for this new piece of information you've got that isn't even substantiated. So let's be careful, very careful and slow to believe evil reports about people. Alright, other comments, please come down. Well, verse 5 says, "So when we were coming to Macedonia, our flesh had no rest." Now get this. We were troubled on every side, without or fighting, and within or fierce. And so, Paul not only had turmoil in his circumstances, he had turmoil in his heart. That's a tough place to be in. And yet, under that pressure, you know, he talks about elsewhere, he's always being delivered to death. So the battlefield's tough, but God gave him relief both internally and externally. So praise the Lord for that. All right, we're just about out of time, but we have time for one more comment. Anybody else want to comment on the passage or anything that's been said? Go ahead. Pop Alpha. Pop Alpha, please go ahead. Pop Alpha, please go ahead. Pop Alpha, please go ahead. Pop Alpha, please go ahead. Pop Alpha, please go ahead. Pop Alpha, please go ahead. Pop Alpha, please go ahead. Oh, Max, yeah, that five and when Roger read it, it kind of jumped out at me. It seems like I'm brain dead this morning, so I apologize for that. When you're in pastoral ministry, there's times it just seems like you are getting bombarded, like you say, from slander. And just Satan works, and he pulls out all the stops. to destroy you. Because if he can take out the leadership of the church, he can take out the church. So we have to be aware of that and be mindful of that. So the flip side of that, Roger, is what I'd like to encourage everybody to do. around the table this morning to constantly be looking your pastor up in prayer and the leadership team. That is so important. And come alongside them and seek their vision Max, seek the vision and lay into the harness and assist them because they need all the help they can get because behind the scenes and every church family is confronted by Satan. The leadership team is sometimes getting their nose and chin bloodied from all different walks, all different directions. You have no idea. But I speak this from experience there, Max, and Southern MPA. Amen. Amen. Yeah, amen too. I second that, Roger. Yeah, Scott, really well said. And boy, pastors are at the tip of the spear, and Satan is just throwing his fiery darts at them like crazy. So say a word of encouragement to your pastor. Tell him that you're supporting him. You appreciate his ministry. and that you value his sacrifice in leading the church in the things of God. So, Scott, thanks for that exhortation. Hopefully everybody will take that up and just encourage your pastor and pray for him because he's just like Paul, you know, without our fightings and within our fears. And he always feels inadequate. He knows he's a sinner himself. He's trying to help other people overcome sin while he's struggling with his own sins. And that's a tough road to hoe. And that's why a lot of guys get out of the ministry, because it is so hard. So we need to pray that God will uphold and sustain his true ministers of the gospel. All right, we are out of time. It's time to go to prayer. Are there any final prayer requests before George leads us in prayer? Please come down with your request. All right, George, K2KJX, go ahead and close in prayer for us. I want to thank all the stations who checked in this morning. I saw Dan in 6T&I there on the Half Moon Bay FDR. Dan, thank you for being there. We got you checked in. And also for the stations that stood by to give us a clear operating frequency. Thank you for your cooperation. We meet here seven days a week at 6:00 a.m. in order to read the scriptures, understand and then to pray for grace and mercy to be able to live out what we learned and for God to meet the needs of those that are in our circle of fellowship. I'll be returning this frequency now to regular amateur use. This is WB7MAX. I'll be clear and standing by. WB7AX, that's L. WB7AX, Roger, go ahead. Thank you. Thank you, Max. Yes, I thought that George's prayer was certainly appropriate as we... lift you up. And I remember hearing an Episcopal pastor who served the churches of Dayton, Washington, and Pomeroy, and he said... And it's right along with Scott's comment. The importance of praying for church leaders And the dimension of that is that a pastor that has multiple churches, as I had nearly all my life, this Episcopal priest said, well, when things are not going too well in Dayton, I can go to Pomeroy and be lifted up in Pomeroy. like in verse 6, be comforted. God comforts the depressed by having the pastor go to another church in his district. But the local leaders, as God was highlighting too... they don't have that privilege. So there is a significance of praying for the elders of a single church when things are not going well. I guess I just wouldn't have needed to have that impressed, but I'd like to stop for that. Prayers are needed for leaders of the single churches. They don't have the chance to go to another church often. Over. Yeah, copy that. That's interesting. I hadn't ever thought about that, Roger. You know, the old Methodist circuit riding preachers back in the pioneer days of America, right, they would ride horses from town to town having church on a circuit, right? And so, you know, boy, I've only ever pastored one church at a time in my ministry before. And the burden of doing two churches would be amazing. But you're right, there's benefits there, too, in that if one congregation is tearing you down, the next one would be lifting you up. And so that's interesting that there would be that encouragement in that circuit that you had of two or more churches. And some are going to be struggling and others are going to be doing better. And it gives you an opportunity to be lifted up when you go from place to place. Because, you know, if all you're seeing is what's going on in your own church, you know, you don't have the perspective on the larger work that God is doing. And I guess that's one reason why it's good to be involved in church. in pastor's conferences so that you can go and hear what's going on in other churches and be encouraged, even if things aren't going so well in your own church. Or if things are going well in your own church, you can encourage other pastors who are struggling in theirs. So, Roger, thanks for that. I had never thought of that, and what an encouragement it would be to have a couple of different congregations that you ministered in and got that broader appreciation for the different ways that God is working in different towns, in different situations. Back to you, Roger. Yeah, Father Hodgkins, he was a neat guy. Partly why we became quite acquainted with him, that there's a little tiny St. Peter's in Pomeroy. That's what it was called, St. Peter's. Probably the first structure that was still being used in Garfield County. from the pioneer days. And he said that, Roger, he said, "Things are not going too well in Dayton. I can come on up here and be refreshed." And that refreshment that Titus brought from the other churches. I mean, in a sense, here Paul's in jail. I, I, let's see, is he writing from imprisonment? No, he's not. Not in this letter. But at any rate, it was a neat, candid perspective. I'm glad he gave it to me, and you can tell that I've retained that, over. Yeah, well said Roger. Okay, anybody else want to jump in here with a comment, please come down to the call site. I just appreciate what you had to say there Roger. And I guess if you know, you know. Yeah, there's a dimension to that for sure. Yeah. And it's amazing in this letter, how candid Paul's emotional, mental state is. It is. And of course, it goes all the way to our Lord and Savior and His humanity that He suffered that horrible... when the sins were laid upon Him and He was so comforted by the angels, the heavenly being that came down against somebody too. So we have that great encouragement from our super encourager. I'll just give it to you, Scott. Over. Scott Cunningham: Yeah, you bet. You bet. Okay, well I need to slide down the fire pole. I don't know, there's days that my brain just doesn't work right, it seems like anymore, Roger. This morning it was, you know, I think it's, I don't know, I just need, I just need rest, Well, we'll see what tomorrow brings. And I really appreciated, like you Roger, I really appreciated George's prayer, because we've got to pinch ourselves every day that Pastor Max is here and the way he facilitates and flies the West Coast Bible Study plane, keeps everything up in the air is quite remarkable. It's not easily done and Max makes it look easy and I know the prep behind it is quite intense at times. So appreciate you Max. I've got to go clear roads. I'd better slide down the fire pole and everybody have a blessed day. And so many of you. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Alright, real good Scott. Thank you for that and you have a blessed day and be safe out there. I don't want you going down over the side of the hill. So, I had a nightmare about that last night. I was driving my van and of course I haven't owned this van for like 20 years, right? And I'm backing up and I back off the side of the road and down over the side of the hill and the van turns over a couple times. And we all get out, everybody's fine, and the van hasn't beat up too bad either. But I'm thinking to myself, how am I going to get this thing out of here? And then of course you wake up, right? So anyway, Scott, don't back over the side of one of those roads today. You hear that's an order. Alright, love you brother. A7MPA73, you have a great day, WB7MX. What a dream. Isn't that ridiculous? Right. Boy, you have one of those wonderful moments where you realize things are not true that you dream about, over. Yeah, 99% of my dreams I do not want to have come true. So I'll be glad when the day comes when we don't have to fool with those subconscious anxieties that come from who knows where. But anyway... Yep, glad to be awake for sure. All right, WB7MAX here looking for anybody else who wants to chat. Beck, Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee, you got our joke of the day. Sounds like Beck checked out. That's fine. Okay, anybody else want to chat? I wrote down something and I actually, I don't know, I can't remember when I wrote this down. It had to come from back. Do you want to hear it? Yeah, go ahead. What's the difference between a fish and a piano? Well, both have scales, yes. And then the bottom line here, can't tune a fish, over. You got two punchlines in there, Roger. They both have scales and you can't tune a fish. I love it. That's great. I hadn't heard that before, so thank you for that. Well, it had to be. It's on my ham radio sheet. Are we sure that Beck never passed that on to us? Yeah, I don't know. I've never heard it before, but then, you know, I was back in New Jersey for a while. Maybe that's when he did it. Pastor Max? I really didn't date this, and I can't remember writing it down, but it's got to be my writing. But I guess I didn't retain it. I guess the -- What did they say? The privilege of old age is to hear -- to hear it again for the first time, I guess is the phrase. To hear it again for the first time. Over. Copy that. As far as short-term memory goes, that's the way it goes for sure. So all right, Roger. Good. Thanks for the good laugh. All right. Pastor Max? Yeah, go ahead. Okay, yes Roger, I did give you the joke and I sent you the joke via text because I'm cooking. Okay, so you sent it to me or you sent it to Roger? No, I sent it to you. I don't have Roger's telephone number or email. Yeah, it hasn't showed up yet, so I don't see it on my phone. Did you send it to my email? I sent it to the phone. Maybe I sent it to somebody else by accident. I'm not really good with that stuff. What do you call a dinosaur that is sleeping? What do you call a dinosaur that is sleeping? Somniosaurus, I don't know what. Oh, that's a good one. It was called a Dinosnore. Dinosnore. That's good, Beck. Thank you for that. You guys have a blessed day. I'll talk to you for five, Yankee QRT. Oh, hey, Beck, my wife says it wound up on her phone. So, anyway, thanks for sending that. She just showed it to me. What do you call a dinosaur that is sleeping? A dinosaur. Yeah, good, got it. Okay, thanks for that. Have a good time cooking there. Don't burn the pancakes. And we'll talk to you tomorrow, Beck. Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee 7-3 WB7MAX. WB7MAX, W7UAR. Good morning. Good morning. How are you doing there, Mark? W7UAR. I think we had a double there, but Mark, go ahead and shout us up. How are you doing? Oh, doing good. Life is just busy, one of those stages, I guess. So I've been able to listen in occasionally through some of the chaos, and I'm going to be leaving here pretty soon to drop one of my kids off to school, but I heard the tail end of everything there and just hope you have a wonderful, wonderful day today. Well, Mark, thank you. It's so good to hear your voice. I know you're busy as a bee with your company and your family and all the obligations you have.
