### Bible Study Summary: 1 Corinthians 13:8-13

#### Introduction and Context

The Bible study session was a diverse gathering of participants from various locations, including Texas, California, and other regions, with a mix of radio operators and individuals with unique call signs. The discussion began with a brief check-in and a discussion on the current radio conditions, noting some interference and the use of loop antennas and SDRs for better signal reception. This set the stage for a rich and engaging discussion centered on 1 Corinthians 13:8-13, focusing on the themes of love, spiritual gifts, and the importance of spiritual growth and maturity.

#### Focus on 1 Corinthians 13:8-13

Steve (W6Y) read the passage aloud, setting the stage for a deep dive into the text. The passage contrasts the temporary nature of spiritual gifts with the enduring quality of love. The group discussed how spiritual gifts, while powerful and important, are ultimately temporary, whereas love is eternal and essential. This led to a broader conversation about the role of love in attracting others to Christ and the metaphorical understanding of love as a light or honey, drawing people in and sweetening their experience of faith.

#### Discussion Points

The group delved into the interpretation of the word "perfect" in 1 Corinthians 13:10, with some suggesting it referred to the completion of New Testament theology and revelation. This sparked a discussion on the importance of personal maturity and spiritual growth, emphasizing the idea of moving from immaturity to maturity. The phrase "seeing face to face" was discussed in the context of understanding fully and the transition from present to future tenses in 1 Corinthians 12 and 13, highlighting the completion of revelation and the role of faith, hope, and love in Christian life.

#### Themes and Interpretation

One of the key themes that emerged was the importance of love over spiritual gifts. The group agreed that while spiritual gifts are powerful and useful, they are ultimately secondary to the enduring quality of love. This led to a discussion on the metaphorical understanding of love, comparing it to honey and light, and how these metaphors can help us understand the role of love in our lives and in attracting others to Christ.

The idea of personal maturity and spiritual growth was also a significant theme. The group discussed the importance of growing up and putting away childish things, emphasizing the need for spiritual maturity. The transition from present to future tenses in 1 Corinthians 12 and 13 was seen as a metaphor for the completion of revelation and the importance of faith, hope, and love in our lives.

#### Prayer and Conclusion

The session concluded with a prayer, with participants sharing prayer requests for various individuals and situations. There was a sense of encouragement and appreciation for the discussion, acknowledging the differences in interpretation and the importance of love in bridging those differences. Plans were made for future sessions, with a focus on improving radio signals and continuing the study of Scripture.

#### Discussion Questions

1. How do you understand the metaphor of love as honey and light? How can this metaphor help us understand the role of love in our lives and in attracting others to Christ?
2. In what ways do spiritual gifts serve as a temporary means to an end, and how does love serve as the permanent foundation of our faith?
3. How can we move from immaturity to maturity in our spiritual lives? What steps can we take to put away childish things and grow up in our faith?
4. How do you interpret the word "perfect" in 1 Corinthians 13:10? What does it mean for the completion of New Testament theology and revelation?
5. How does the transition from present to future tenses in 1 Corinthians 12 and 13 reflect the completion of revelation and the importance of faith, hope, and love in our lives?

This Bible study session provided a rich and engaging exploration of 1 Corinthians 13:8-13, emphasizing the enduring quality of love over spiritual gifts and the importance of spiritual growth and maturity. The discussion highlighted the importance of faith, hope, and love in our lives and the role of love in attracting others to Christ.

Check in for shade to hear your voice. All right, I'm gonna check in with Space Camille. Hey, hey, hey, hey, I'm access to 50507, Papa Del Sandy. I just wanted to let you know that W7C, Texas State, is in evangelical, and he was talking over here. He had to get off the earth at the best of yards, so not good. But he was, uh, he's on the, uh, 50 yard right now listening. Yeah, I got it. I got it. What else did I get? Whiskey 7. Shall we actually check in? He's in Needles, California. All right. Well, that's a great place to be, in Christine Mountains there. And I hope he enjoys really enjoying seeing God's country all around. All right, and I would like to acknowledge Peter, KJ7BA. Good morning, Peter. See you there on the Utah SDR. Good to have you with us. And Peter says good morning to everyone. I see Brian, KJ7BWM. Good morning, Brian. Are you on your radio? Thank you. Okay, there's Brian. I heard his voice. Brian, we got you checked in. Thank you for being there. All right, that's Brian, KG7PWM. I see Jim in 7PT. Jim, are you on your radio? I think the Well, not yet. He's probably speaking to me. All right, let's see. Just running down my list here. Okay, I think we've got everybody on Utah checked in, and I think we have everybody on Half Moon Bay. Yep. Okay, we're taking brief check-ins to West Coast House. Anybody come up? No. W7RKD, checking in for my little friend. Alright, there's Bird W7RKD, checking in for his daily breath. Good morning, Bird, how you doing? Uh, doing okay, what a day. Doing alright for a day? Uh, yeah, you'll see, I did a lot of match. Uh, I think you saw a fun draft this morning. It was fun, and, uh, it was, uh, it was fun to do. Rockstar, you're a little jacked up. And, uh, we're gonna have this, uh, Bible study. Thank you for doing the best in the Bible study, 77RKD. Yeah, real good, Bert. Yeah, the band has got a lot of noise on it this morning. Not sure why, but maybe there's some stations that are close by us. But, uh, yeah, we're getting a lot of QRM for sure. Okay, that's Bert, 77RKD. Check in, Bert. Thank you for your encouragement. All right, now you can get a check-in this morning. Please come out. *Metal noise* Alright, we've got about a minute and a half to go before we begin our West Coast public video. If there are any more chickens, please come down. Yep, I did as well. You're like Firefox. Good morning, Will. How you doing? Good morning. Oh, I'm doing okay, yeah, there is another station that's just, uh, uh, kilohertz above us, and they're overlapping, so I think that's pretty insane. I didn't know you were late about 20 to 30 hours. Okay, that's fine, that's what all that noise is. Well, thank you for that, Will, appreciate that, yeah. It'd be nice if they'd move just another kilohertz away to make a big difference. Okay, WB7MX here, neck control for the West Coast Bumper Study. Uh, we got Will checked in, any other check-ins come out? Thanks for watching. Okay, we're going to be in 1 Corinthians 13, verses 8 to 13. So if you want to open your Bibles to that section, we'll get started here in a minute. That's 1 Corinthians 13, 8 through 13. Any other check-ins to the West Coast Bible Study, please come down. Thank you. It is 6 o'clock and it's time for us to get started. We are in 1 Corinthians 13. Now, the sections that we've been looking at here, we're looking at chapter 12, chapter 13, chapter 14, all of these chapters deal with the issue of spiritual gifts. In chapter 12, we saw the regulation of spiritual gifts. I mean, the distribution of spiritual gifts, what I meant to say, the distribution of spiritual gifts in the church. We saw that the Spirit sovereignly bestows a spiritual gift upon every person. Not any person has all of the gifts, but every person has at least one. And it's creating interdependence among believers for mutual ministry to one another. And each has a God-given ability for service. Now in chapter 13, we are seeing the limitations of spiritual gifts. And we saw that the Corinthians were badly imbalanced in their view and use of spiritual gifts. And they were exalting themselves over what gift they had in comparison to others. And so what Paul is saying to them is that without love, these spiritual gifts that you glory in so much are worthless and useless and accomplish nothing. So he opened the chapter by saying, eloquence without love is worthless, and understanding without love is useless, and self-sacrifice without love is valueless. And so love is essential for the exercise of spiritual gifts because ministry without love becomes meaningless. So having seen the necessity of love in verses 1 to 2, we then saw the nature of love in verses 3 to 7, or 4 to 7. And we spent that, I think, three days. talking about the nature of love and how that is manifested in the way in which we treat each other. And so what we're going to do today then is we're going to see the reason why love is so important in the exercise of spiritual gifts and why love is more important than spiritual gifts is that love is permanent while spiritual gifts are temporary. The thrust of our passage is that spiritual gifts are going to pass away but love will never pass away. So, it is axiomatic that permanent things are more important than temporary things and things with greater value are more important than things with lesser value. So, spiritual gifts are of limited value and spiritual gifts are of limited duration. And therefore, spiritual gifts are far less important than love, which has had the greatest value because it has an infinite duration. So, in the passage before us, Paul contrasts the temporary nature of the spiritual gifts with the permanent nature of love and shows... how we should be far more concerned with being loving and showing love than we are with the possession and exercise of spiritual gifts, because these spiritual gifts, some of them are going to pass away. Sooner or sooner, some are going to pass away later, but ultimately all of them will pass away. All right, well, that then brings us to our passage today, but before we... read our passage together. We want to open our time together in prayer. And so on Mark KK7 PVP, I'm going to ask you if you would please open in prayer for us today. Sure, I will. I will start it. But I'm going to start it with, "Thank you for the words of your heart, and I will love you for that too." - - All right, Marco, thank you for that prayer. May the Lord be pleased to answer that. We want to read this section. I'm going to ask Steve W6Y as I speak if you would read for us. And Steve, we need you to read 1 Corinthians 13 verses 8 through 13. That's 1 Corinthians 13:8 to the end of the chapter. Go ahead then, Steve. Okay, uh, beginning at verse 8, after 13 I'll be reading the American Standard. Love never fails. If there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away. If there are tongues, they will cease. If there is knowledge, it will be done away. But we know in part that we prophesy. But when the perfect, um, partial, will be done away. When I was a child, I used to speak as a child. Think as a child, reason as a child. I became a man, in a way, with childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, then face to face. Now I know in part, then I shall know fully. This is I also have been fully known. But now I bite faith, hope of these three. The greatest of these as well. And that's after 14. Okay, thank you for that reading. Appreciate that. All right, here's a rusting passenger. Any comments on this passenger? Please come out to call us at BDI. BDI. David's in there. Thank you, Scott. David is in there. David, please go ahead. Well, what I think of here, Max, is when you read these passages... Just like honey is to a bee, his love is to the character of a Christian. And so, our love is so important that that is displayed in our lives. It's like a lighthouse with a beacon light. It draws the ship safely into the harbor. So does love draw people to Christ. It's an attractive trait. And what is this blade? According to the scriptures, it draws people to want to learn more about the love of God. Keto Keto 7, Papa Delpandia, back to you Max. You know Dave, those are two great illustrations. Love is like honey, love is like light. It's very attractive to people. And so as we shine out with the light of God's love, and as the sweetness of God's love is manifested in the way in which we treat other people, it is going to attract folks to the gospel and to our Savior, because they recognize that's way different than the meanness of the world and the selfishness of the world. and the cruelty that the world often manifests, the lack of care. And so, you know, Jesus said, By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, because you have love one toward another. And love is, of course, the chief virtue, the chief moral virtue in Christianity. Love is the fulfilling of the law. And of course, God so loved that He gave. And so, you know, whatever we think of spiritual gifts, it's important for us to recognize that loving people is far more important than anything else we do in relationship to them. And of course, we have to define what love looks like biblically. Love is not just affirming everybody in everything, no matter what they are and what they do. But what it is, is it's an effort to reach out and to draw them to God and to ourselves by removing the sin that stands between them and God and between us and them. And thus we can have an uninterrupted, intimate, close relationship. And that's what love does. It always draws its object to itself. So light attracts and sweetness attracts. And David, those are great metaphors, and I think that they're very powerful. All right, other comments, please come down to call us. Thank you. All right, well, you know, there's an interesting phrase here in verse 8 where it says, Charity never fails, or love never fails. And the idea is that love is never going to cease to occupy the position and the importance that it now has. Love will never fall down from the place of first importance that it now occupies. And the point is that the significance of love and the value of love and the centrality of love is never going to diminish. In a word, love is permanent. It remains forever as an operative principle in the kingdom of God. in contrast to these revelatory gifts that Paul mentions here. He mentions three of them by way of example: the gift of prophecy, the gift of tongues, and the gift of the word of knowledge. All are gifts that involve the reception and the expression of direct revelation from God. And there will come a time when those gifts are no longer necessary. the love will always be necessary. And so that's the contrast of things set up here in this passage. Alright, other comments, please come out. Okay, I'm not hearing anybody, are there any real life? No relays, but K2KJX, I have a comment. K2KJX, George, please go ahead. Yeah, it sounds like the van is going away. But, you know, the biggest struggle I had as a 18-year-old was verse 11. When I was a child, I spoke as a child. I understood as a child. I thought as a child. But when I became a man, I put away child-machines. And that was the hardest thing for me is to leave my old self behind and walk in a new life. But it was a struggle. KKKJS. Well, yeah. And, you know, the whole principle here of immaturity is used as an illustration. And you are correct. Growing up is a process. And so he uses this illustration of human maturity here in verse 11. He says, when I was a child, I spoke as a child, understood as a child, and I thought as a child. So when I became a man, I put away childish things. And so you're right. Growing up is tough. It's difficult just as a person. It's also difficult as a Christian. And there are things that pertain to immaturity. And then there are things that are marks of maturity. And in the church's immaturity, when the church was young and it was just beginning, it was marked by the use of the gift of prophecy and the gift of tongues and the revelatory gift of the word of knowledge. But then as the church matured and gained her adulthood, if you will, when the perfect came, that is, when the complete revelation of God's word came, these gifts passed away. And so you need things when children are young, like cribs and baby bottles and diapers. So when the child grows up, you don't need that stuff anymore. And in the same way, when the church was young and they didn't have completed scriptures, and the apostles were still forming these churches and their doctrine and theology, they needed a lot of things that once the church came into her maturity, she had a completed revelation to consult. These gifts passed away were no longer necessary. So that seems to be the thrust of the passage that he uses as an illustration, George, of growing up and putting away the former things that we know that don't need them anymore because of the maturity we possess. So I don't imagine, George, that you have picked up a baby bottle and a baby rattle or slept in a crib in a while because as an adult you don't need that stuff. And so it's the same way we have to put away childish immaturities of selfishness and of anger and all those things that we have as little children. And we need to grow up and be mature men and women of God who act like adults. in our character, in the way in which we treat other people, and in the level of service and ministry that we do to others. So yeah, George, we all share that struggle with growing up. Okay, other comments on this passage, please come out. Okay, we had a double there. First we're going to go with Mark taking 7 PVP, and then we're going to go with Will, 2.5 Foxtrot. Go ahead there, Mark. Yeah, you bet. Mark asked me to talk about what the word perfect meant in verse 10. Um... Basically what it says there in verse 10 is that, "But when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away." And the contrast is between partial and completed. So the word perfect there is the Greek word "paleos." It's in the neuter. and voice, and it's a word that means wholeness or completeness or maturity. And it stands in contrast to that which is in part. It's a completion of that which is partial. And hence, what is in part... is the conveyance of divine revelation to these spiritual gifts. And then that which is complete or perfect is the finished revelation that these gifts were in the process of delivering. In other words, when we have a mature, complete, finished revelation of the scriptures, we no longer need the revelatory gifts that convey that revelation to us. because the work is done and the job is over. So Paul says, we know in part, we prophesy in part. But when the perfect is come, then the partial will not be needed. So whatever the perfect is, it is in contrast to that which is partial. And since that which is partial has to do with revelatory gifts, than that which is completed has to do with the completion of that revelation. And so the reason why the word perfect can't refer to the second coming of Jesus is because it's in the new voice. And if it were referring to Jesus, it would be in the masculine voice. So that's my best understanding of perfect. And Marcus, go ahead. Make your comments. Thank you. - I'm sure that that also echoes something that you said about the best of all of those. It's weird. I don't know if it's taken so long and I know people can't hear me. I'm going to get a coffee here in a minute or two. I hope I can get this. Let's try. Is that perfect? Perfect. that he talked about when I was a child. I spoke as a child. I understood as a child. I thought as a child. But then when I became a man, one of the things that I thought was easy is that I had to step inside of this group where there's also the idea that there's a page. There are two. Two. I get the reading stuff before I understand it. One ear is the point that works. I'm going to tell you the point. And that's bad for your ears. That's the point that's being bad for your ears. I'm going to, I know what you're saying, but I'm also going to say that for me, the point that's being bad for your ears is well stated to me. Then, because that's what we work up about, because the purpose has come down to this band, that which is in part will be done away with. I'm going to have a stand on this, and it's just a picture that I made. And then, it's got to be successful. is is when we will see Jesus face to face. And I'm going to give you an example here. When I first started this radio industry that we have, and I started the tech industry, I began to know you all by your voice. and I fell in love with this group. I fell in love with the family between each other. I fell in love with all of the different spirit that you are all this place. And one day I found out an invite from someone here in the group and I was able to drive down. I was able to drive down and visit that person. But when I... When I showed up, you know, and the way I learned about it was the radio. I learned how to use my radio so I could tune it in. I learned how to listen to the radio. I learned how to speak out the very small radio and all of that. And from that, I became... I got to know people and from all of that, I launched to be able to meet new people. And one day I was able to do that. Martin and I were able to do that and meet this person's wife. And we had a wonderful time. But when we got there, I didn't break out my radio and start talking to them. I was able to speak with them face to face. It was absolutely wonderful. And so that's my point here, that the point that we have certainly been given the word of God, and I don't have any arguments in that area, but that is the thing that we all spend quite a bit of time understanding and then swarming over in great detail. I've heard you all do that amazingly. And what I'm suggesting here is that we're, stretch our site a little bit down, just a smaller distance down in the same passage, and maybe contemplate the idea that one day we're going to stand face to face and see things, as you well said, will be needed, because we will be right in front of Jesus. We'll be able to speak to him. We're told that we'll be in face to face. So that's my take on this very special scripture, KJ722. He says it means full of age. It also means the point aimed at as a condition. And so it's like, what are we aiming at? What is the conclusion? The point aimed at as a conclusion. And so the conclusion that the point is aimed at here is being face-to-face with Jesus. And so here's the illustration that when we talk on the radio, we know each other in part. But then when we get together for dinner, then we see each other face-to-face. and we are able to have a degree of understanding and knowledge that we didn't have. So Mark's understanding of this passage is that the coming of the perfect is a reference to Jesus, and this phrase, face to face, has to do with when we see Jesus. And so Mark's argument is that the spiritual gifts continue, I do not cease until Jesus comes the second time. Mark, did I represent you accurately? Go ahead. That's not the way I want to put it. I understand that's the way you understand it, and that's okay, but I... that they could remove the emotional piece of it for me. Um, and I'm not relying on emotion here. I'm asking people to ask the question of themselves. If indeed this, uh, this spiritual gift has been removed, And why are they spoken of in the present tense at the very beginning of chapter 12, I believe? So, why are they spoken of in the present tense? These things are. So there are diversities. There are, sorry, I'm in trouble reading this. There are diversities. There are, and this is a problem that we went through. And then it goes on. There are diversities in groups of people. And then they show up on the other side. individual gift. And those words he uses, this is, this is, this is, well, this one is given the word wisdom through the spirit to another, the word of knowledge, maybe it was the same spirit to another. He uses the word gift as a leader again. And here's a story from our children. I have a little friend called Aaron. And he's a very good kid. And he has a question, too. And I have a little friend that's a kid, too. and where to read about this understanding that they have disappeared. When did that happen? Why are we still reading this in present tense? Is there a place where it says, um, that is, let me back up, is this really true? How did it come to be? the Bible, they understand these things about what it is. These things are being read, but they don't disappear. God is wonderful in the presence of it. He is the Christ that we are. I'm wondering, I guess, about this. are presently in each other's christians my life. I know it's all the kind, but my neighbors, as I was saying, they were treated to the exact same way that we were bred about them, so I don't know any other way to say it. I don't want to say it here, but I do want to say it. But I do want to say it all, at least to listen to what I have to say, because I'm from a different place. I just did that. I got it. I got it. And our experience, I think, feels like a whole different way to manage the fire. I've had a whole different experience. And it was. something that i thought about it and I don't know if it's the pictures right now or other times, but it happens a little later as you study the word. And this is me. And so these are real things that happen to real persons who are following the word in the very same way that you are. But we don't tell that against anyone. I don't ever think that I'm special in any way. But I do not deny what the Lord has done for me in the same way that... and I was a lot of my staff. And for me, it was a great thing. So I hope that all makes sense. And I hope it does. And I think that it's now okay for people to come out to see the students and I think that's everything they need. Hi, Michael. Good, thank you for sharing your experience. I do want to go back to what you said at the beginning of your statement. When you said that these things are in the present tense, how are we supposed to understand those today? Well, we have to understand that when Paul was writing 1 Corinthians in 55 AD, those things were true at that point in history. And so he spoke of them in the present tense because that's what was happening at the time that he wrote the book. And so, yes, you're correct. He does speak of these spiritual gifts. For example, the ones that are listed in Chapter 12 as being presently operative, and they were. But then he speaks in the future tense in Chapter 13, and he says these things will, in the future, pass away. And so the question, the pointed argument here is, and we're not arguing, we're discussing this, is when are they going to pass away? I think the passage is real clear that they're going to pass away. They're going to see. The only question is when. And that depends upon how you interpret the word perfect and how you understand the three and face the faith. Now, you know, when he illustrates the passage of spiritual gifts, he gives two illustrations. And the first illustration is the illustration of personal maturity, okay? And so he gives the illustration of human maturity in verse 11 where he talks about You know, a child growing up into adulthood and putting away those things that previously were part of his minority and his immaturity. And then, secondly, he uses this illustration of the cloudy mirror in verse 12. Now, at the time Paul was writing this letter, he and the Corinthians did not see all the truth clearly. He likens their condition in 55 A.D. before all the revelation was given and the New Testament was completed. They're looking into a mirror. Now the mirrors of that day were very poor. They were polished silver or brass. The image was dark and distorted. It would be like looking in such a mirror and then someone comes in behind you and you see them in the mirror and then you turn around and you see them face to face. And so it's much more clear. So in Paul's day in 55 AD when he wrote this, the full shape and the contours of New Testament theology were not yet clear. Most of the New Testament had not yet been written. The Holy Spirit was still revealing new information in Jesus' promise in the Upper Room Discourse. So there were still somewhat in the dark about matters. Not every doctrine was yet in sharp focus. And the Holy Spirit had much to reveal. But then when the perfect is come, that is, when the revelation of the Scripture is finally completed, then everything comes into sharp focus. And then they will know in full what now they only know in part. Then they will see the truth as clearly as others see them when they look directly at them. So, no doubt, many of these people lived to see the day when the Scriptures were completed and the truth was fully poured out. And, uh, and brought out into sharp focus and clear sight. So, No longer do we have a dark, incomplete, distorted view of God's revelation as the Corinthians did in A.D. 55. Now we clearly see the truth with all of its brightness, clarity, and focus because the perfect revelation has come. We now see the truth face to face in the finished scriptures. So, that's my understanding of that face to face. It's turning away from a mirror to actually looking at the person themselves. and it's just an illustration, just like growing up is an illustration. There's not an ethical, logical component. There is a mentoring component, or there is a clarifying component in those two illustrations. So Mark has experienced the spiritual gifts that are making the actress in his church and in his life. And those are very real to him, and they are to many believers. So, you know, my goal here is not to say, "Okay, everybody has to believe exactly the same thing about this passage," but to understand the ways in which people look at it and draw their own conclusions. Many thousands and millions of people have drawn the conclusions that Mark has. He's not out there by himself. And, of course, many have drawn the conclusions that I've set forth in the passage. So think it over. So reflect on what Mark said, because what he said, I thought, was very well stated in terms of the perspective that those who believe in the continuation of spiritual gifts hope to. And, of course, I stated what those who think the gifts ceased in this age hope to. So we'll put the ball in your court, and you can take it through and draw your own conclusions. Mark, I really appreciate you sharing what you did. I really appreciate you articulating so well your understanding of these passages. And I just want us all to feel free to speak our mind on these subordinate issues, And in the process, Mark loves me. I love Mark. We all love each other, even though we might have some differences about our understanding of these important passages. And really, that's what our passage is saying is the most important thing here, right? We need to love each other. And differences of opinion on secondary issues does not interrupt our love. And so that's where our focus is. on loving each other. Alright, any other comments on this passage before we go to prayer, please come down to the conference. Yes, I will. I forgot about you all so long ago. Go ahead, please. That's okay. I'll just make this short. In a public school, prayer was taken out. Then the Bible was taken out. So we have a lot of kids that are just immature and haven't grown up. And they grow up without truth in their life. Can't believe it. Yeah, well, thank you for that. Yeah, when they took the Bible and prayer and the teaching that was out of the schools, the kids couldn't grow up. They couldn't grow up morally. They couldn't grow up in terms of their maturity and their worldview, their understanding of meaning and purpose in life. And so without the scriptures, you're not going to grow up. And Will makes an excellent point there. The reason why we've got so many people who can't think and who behave in such an immature fashion in our nation is because they don't have the scriptures to bring them to maturity. Will, excellent point. All right, other comments come out. PDA. Uh, PDI, Dave, go ahead. Yeah, I won't commit to getting into this deeply. It means the whole study all on its own, on its own privately, but I would always say with regards to signs and wonders, what is a sign? A sign points to something. And the signs in which Jesus, uh, appeared, it's pointed to him, and he was for Christ. Also, I would say this, with regards to the spiritual gifts. How will they get it? And that's a study in itself. But it was the apostles who laid their hands upon others to give the gifts. You'll never see the gift passed from the person who received it from an apostle, that they can pass the gift on to someone else. So that's something to consider in your study. I'll leave that, and I want to just make a quick comment on this chapter 13, about faithful people, and the greatest of these is love. I think all of us can think of times in our lives that person who showed us that agape love, that love that actually served their purpose when you weren't lovable, and they showed you how to love. And that is the important characteristic of every Christian, is that you display that love. And that is the attractive thing that happens in every Christian's life to draw people to Christ. I would get into more on the other topic, but that would take a long study. And to bear that out in the Scriptures, just bear it out. I'm Jekyll, Jekyll, 7, Papa Delphia, back to you, Max. Yeah, really well said, Dave. Number one, it's a huge subject. And if anybody's interested, I have the exposition of this passage, 1 Corinthians 13, 8-13, on sermon audio. So you can type in Pastor Max Doner, sermon audio, and search for my exposition, 1 Corinthians 13. And that sermon is there that explains the passage, and I understand it, as well as the whole book of 1 Corinthians. But your second point, Dave, and that is that love trumps all of this. Love is more important than any of it. And while, you know, we study to show ourselves approved unto God, we're going to need not to be seen accurately handling the word of truth. Yet that truth, whatever we discover in it, has to be spoken in love, and it was spoken in love this morning by all parties. And that's what's critical. And so let's not forget, in the midst of all of this discussion, which was, I think, really valuable from Mark's perspective, and also from the perspective of others that what we mean after all this discussion is faith. Are you trusting God, His Son, and His promises and His Word? Oh, do you have an optimistic expectation of eternal life in the new earth? And then, of course, the love. Am I loving God and am I loving my fellow believers? And you keep your faith up, you keep your hope up, you keep expressing love to God and man, and you'll have something far more important than any of the details of this particular passage. So on that note, I think we need to stop. I think we need to go to prayer, and I think we need to ask God to meet the needs in our group that we've talked about. All right, are there any final prayer requests before we go to prayer? Please come out. Okay, I'll go ahead. Just a quick comment in verse 13, not that big. It's foundational to hope and love Wherever you place your faith, that's where you place your love Amen Amen, faith is foundational And wherever your faith is, that determines your hope And that is the basis on which you express love And that's what informs love as to what it is And once again, Will is emphasizing the importance and foundational nature of faith Will, I really appreciate that Keep reminding us, brother Because faith is the foundation of it all Okay, any prayer requests, please come out All right, all KJ7K, can we please close the door for a moment? Now, at this point, the party is in a tough spot. The KJ7K's right foot has come together in a crash. And my father, he comes to you grateful for this study today. He's right. We want a happy gift. And we have spirits. And thousands. focus on them and to supply them and to show that they glorify you and help build your kingdom. And we realize that we have all this to pull us in and to increase our faith and to... and build our relationship with you. And we also realize that we need to look up our brothers and sisters and our groups here and realize they are seeds and presents we need to say to you. We think of our project plan taking 7UFW or just had another life-saving plan to place on recovery of that eye, and that's just as bad as the eye drops and it's treatment of effectively healing of that eye. Well, we are the praises for another sacred child that's been given by us eyes for the years, the brown trip with his son to the Dallas, back to California again. Also Jerry87R who made a safe trip to Salem from Roseburg yesterday and is afraid that that went well. We looked up Doc and his mission and his trip to the TGI was afraid that his last trip to the island was successful and that they were able to accomplish what they need to for their mission. We looked up by JR and his ham friend Bill, who went to find a key on Sunday, and we prayed for Bill's family and that they would be able to process it and understand that this is your will and your plan. with the husband and pray for them in this time of strife again. I hope that you will help bring them to a better understanding of their relationship with you as well. We look at my W7GWO team, which is Temple Archdiocese, that is great, right? and his teaching and coaching there. We pray for the wisdom, the best medication to come about that. We also lift up Jaden for his salvation. Jaden's my friend's son who's immersed in classical culture and he'd like to see his... because musical talents are used for your glorification. We also have a staff in praise of the salvation of the sister Barbara. And we also lift up that Alpha Phi Phi, the ancient, she's a friend of Anthony, W7BTF, who's on a long road trip. and we request proper procedures for him and his safety, for that. For Tony, G-I-7-T-R happens, struggling with insomnia. We look up his name, Zoe, the 16-year-old, and pray for her protection. And her sentence is salvage. Just making it so Kaylee just needs Hayley. We look up Hayley, and we need salvage, also great. For me, you've got to process the past injustices done to her, and she's making good and perfect in her life. I would like to continue to lift up the bottom and pray for Tim Tyga, who played for Lizzie, for her reading, for her living, and for the development of her social skills, for the bridge from false theological beliefs, and for her salvation. Also for Mike, Mike, the WFPW's brother, Bob Ricks. who is in the process of finding a new place to live, prays that he found a place that people could sit and pray to people, be blessed with a place to live, so we can give less of that as he continues to live. about following the path of his wife Adri. This is the Carol KK 17, 8 years old, and her son-in-law Chris, KO5, 3, and 3, a believer, had angiopathy and prayed for healing, her future had been for that surgery to be successful. And we pray for the protection of our Alice, our children's 7-year-old great-granddaughter, our mom-daughter and food in her home, and for her salvation. That's what we have on our list today for you, our economists. But these are the ones we drove out on Friday. So we have this in your mercy, please. I would be blessed if you'd please sit down with me and give your time. We ask that you move through goodness, mercy, and grace to each one of us. And that you would protect and guide us, and bring us back here again tomorrow for more of you and your work. Especially, we thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. And together we pray all these things. Amen. This is JN722H returning back to the MAP. Back to the MAP. Thank you. I really appreciate that prayer. I appreciate you bringing us to the throne of grace. This is Max WB7 in the Expat Control for the West Coast Bible Study. I want to thank all the stations who checked in this morning as well as those who stood by to give us a clear operating frequency. We're in the air seven days a week at 6 a.m. In order to read the scriptures, understand their meaning, message, and application, and to pray for grace and mercy to live out what we learn, and for God to meet the needs of those that are in our circle of fellowship. I'll be returning this frequency now to regular amateur use. This is WB7 in the X. I will be clear and standing by. PDI? Uh, PDI, Dave, go ahead. Yeah, Matt, thank you so much again for all you do and for being in that control and dealing with all the passages that we discussed today. I appreciate your narration. I appreciate, you know, the truth of God's word, obviously. And one of the points I appreciate so much today is the point that you made with regards to the context. You said it in so many words. The context is key, and that's important. Understand who they're writing to and at what time and what was the purpose that they were facing then. Context is key when you're studying God's Word, and I appreciate that because I think you articulated that very well. Appreciate all you do, Mac. Great Bible study. I appreciate it so much. You have a blessed day. And I'll chase every dream soon. I'll just be standing by for a little while. All right, well, good, David. Thanks for the encouragement. I really appreciate that. The historical context in which a book is written matters so much. What was going on at that time in history and what were the circumstances, and then how do we translate that into our time in history and our circumstances. So, David, appreciate you being there and your faithfulness, and I appreciate the way your station is working so much better. Yes, um, yeah, we'll, uh, we'll chat with you in a minute. All right, Deputy 7 in the next net control. Uh, looking for any conversations anybody wants to have. I am here waiting and listening. Yeah, I like that. Oh, yeah, I do, I do. All right. Yeah, I'm looking at probably the end of March sometime or April, somewhere around there with W7CX, Dave. Hopefully, I'm going to finally put up a better signal. And that's why I've been hesitant not to do closing prayers and stuff. My signal isn't that great. But I'm going to probably put up a loop antenna. And so that will make a big difference with maybe four masses in my backyard. And I haven't moved four quarters before. And I'm pretty sure that will give me some really good signal. Yeah, yeah, a horizontal loop is a great antenna. So, right, yeah, I appreciate that offer to help with closing prayer. And we're looking forward to that a lot. So right now we've got just five people to do that, and we have a six and a seven. So we could just have one person preach a day. But anyway, I really appreciate your offer there and looking forward to Dave and his return and for that loop to get up and for your signal to improve so that everybody will always be able to hear you. You know, I hear you really well, so much better than I did before. And also, you know, hear you good on the SDRs. And that's the other thing, you know, is that somebody can't hear you directly. that they can hear you on the SDR. You know, you've got stations like Steve, W6Y, and Scott, and 7&P, and others. Jerry, 7ER. You know, you can hear them on the radio. You can hear them on the Asplunday SDR. You can hear them on the Utah SDR. So you know, one way or the other, everybody can hear them. And so those are the strong stations that I tend to ask to read the scriptures, to lead in prayer, all those kinds of things. Anyway, and it's not favoritism, you know, it's like, I want folks to be able to hear. And so that's what really drives the selection of those who pray and those who read. So anyway, David, thank you so much for working to improve your station. That is huge. And I appreciate your contributions as well. All right, good WB7 in the X. Back to you, David. Yeah, I also appreciate the mail. His station is so clear. He's really got it focused in. And so when we'll speak, I enjoy his clarity. He's got that down. And so it's good to hear him as well. But I will be working in the next month, month and a half to get that signal up there to where you guys are at so I can get out better. Thank you for the encouragement there as well. It's just been a wonderful Bible study today, and I appreciate it again. And I'm going to make you sell me trees, Max, and we'll talk to you later. You have a blessed day. All right, KK7TI7, please. WB7 in the exit. Yeah, I concur. We'll have a fabulous station. All right, WB7 in the exit. Anybody? Heya, President. Welcome to my five-box truck, man. Well, that's me at the fabulous station. That was you, brother. Uh, David KK7PDI was saying how much you appreciate your station, and I was saying, "I agree." Uh, you've got a great station, always able to hear you. Over. Well, I only run it 100 watts, but I've got a little bit of compression, so I think that helps get the signal out a little better. I almost kept it to not get out, but, you know, that's a given. Can't blame it. Yeah, well, the compression helps a lot, and also, you know, somehow you've eliminated the load, so there's no bass, which makes your voice really sharp and clear. Um, so, well, I've never had trouble understanding you unless the band is just horrid, which, when that happens, you can't understand anybody. But, um, anyway, just, um, whatever you're doing there, it's working really well. Uh, but yeah, if you want to throw a amp on there, fine, but if you don't, um, that's not the end of the world either, so, um, anyway, the way you're operating now, uh, real clear signal there, Will, go ahead. Yeah, when you can't hear me, I'm glad to, because I didn't turn the power back up after I turned the cam on, by the way. Yeah, copy that, copy that, yep. Well, you know, for guys to run a lot of DX where they're forever retuning their tuner, I can see where that would be a problem. I kind of just leave this thing right here on 3975, everything is smooth, everything is set up. I just turn the radio off and then the next morning I turn it back on again. So I've been caught once or twice, you know, I tuned away to someplace else. But, yeah, timidly is a major pain in the neck, especially if you've got a manual tuner where your power's got to go down and you tune and back up and you talk and back down and tune and back up and talk. And, yeah, that's what ham radio's all about, I guess. Go ahead, Will. KM5773 I will record the KM5773 here WP7 in the X-Term box KM5773 I'll mark KG7PVT go ahead I just want to do a special application for the word of you, Blackjack. The business is going to be a variety of different people working with each other, and I hope that they will continue to be a part of the model, and a example of what that means to me, and in general. That's the reason I came out here. That's the reason I asked. And I think that's very important. I'll take it from here. Yeah, Mark, I couldn't agree more. And you know, you're always, you always have been very loving. and I really appreciate that and I thank you as we demonstrate love to each other on this radio it's a witness to the world I don't know where this signal goes I don't know who's listening but when people see the Christians who have differences they'll treat each other with love and respect and honor that's a huge witness so Mark thank you for the wonderful witness you are to kindness and love and patience and yet clarity in stating where you're at, but stating it in a way that is not only noncombatant but very gracious. So, Mark, good for you and God willing, our love will triumph all the differences that we may have, which when it's all said and done, you know, Mark, one of my very best friends was an assembly of God pastor. who practice all the gifts that you do and your church does. And we just had great fellowship together because our fellowship was around Christ and His redemption and saving work and the love that He gave to us that we shared between ourselves. We would pray together. We'd talk about issues in our church together, our churches. And our churches even got together for fellowship at parks and that kind of thing. One time he brought his old church down to my church to listen to me preach. So, yes, love compels the differences and binds us together because we're all going to be in heaven together. And so here on Earth, we're together. We're all part of the body of Christ. And we all have way more in common than we have in difference, for sure. So Mark, thank you for that. I love you, brother. At KJ7PVT, WB7 in the airport. Yeah, well, you do. And I know you're gonna be happy for us. So we love you guys. Yeah, well, we've seen you so much in the end. And we're all going to the same destination. And... I don't know what's going to happen. We're talking about the... All the things and all the things that are going to happen... I don't know what to say. I don't know what to say. opportunity and the state of the town in front of us, and we'll carry that out for the next part of the week. And I appreciate everything that you do, and I'm really impressed by the way that you do that. That's what I'm saying. Thank you for the discussion. This is Mark. Thank you so much. Thank you for the CDC. Yeah, you bet, Mark. And I always want to give you and everyone on this net a set opportunity to state their understanding, because that's what this is about. It's not about me. telling everybody what the scripture says. It's about us talking together about what the scripture says and how we understand them. That's the form. And we want to maintain that form of goodwill, free speech, full opportunity to express our minds. And then, of course, all of that covered in a layer of love. All right, Mark, we'll go to KJ7PVT. Say hi to Marky for me. And you guys have a great day, and we'll see you in the morning. KJ7PVT 73 WB7UX. Uh, DK-7WKI, I see you there. I probably... you've probably been there forever. I just now noticed, um... kind of intense session this morning, so I didn't check my FDRs, but hey, KU7WKI, I see you there, I got you checked in, and thank you for being part of the West Coast Office study this morning. Thank you. I got the BB-7 in the exiled decoy, so I'll see you all tomorrow, got that? Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. . Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
