### Bible Study Summary: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

#### Introduction and Check-ins

The Bible study began with a warm welcome and check-ins from various participants, including Beck, Will, Brian, Roger, and Jerry. The group shared personal updates, with some expressing concerns about the ongoing drought and forest fires, while others mentioned a recent trip to see snow. These personal reflections set a tone of community and mutual support, emphasizing the importance of prayer and intercession for one another.

#### Prayer Requests

The group then moved into prayer requests, covering a wide range of needs. Gene, a non-believer who will be attending church with Roger, was mentioned. Daylene and Amy were prayed for regarding recent cancer surgeries, and Bert's recovery from a concussion was also highlighted. The group extended condolences to Dale's family, who recently lost a loved one. Other prayer requests included Operation Worship and other missionary work, church leadership, and a silent multitude of listeners who might not participate but benefit from the study. Chris's healing of a shattered elbow, Tyler's struggle with drug addiction, and Fran's elderly health issues were also brought before God.

#### Bible Study: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

The Bible study focused on 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, a passage that discusses the diversity of spiritual gifts and their importance within the body of Christ. The group delved into the idea that no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit, emphasizing the supernatural enablement that comes from the Spirit. The passage outlines various gifts, including wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpreting tongues. These gifts are distributed as the Spirit wills, and they are meant to be exercised in love and for the edification of the body.

The discussion highlighted that these gifts are ongoing and not one-time exercises. They are supernatural enablements, not just natural abilities. Some gifts were foundational and ceased after the completion of the New Testament. The importance of testing the spirits to ensure they align with biblical theology was also stressed. Participants like Scott and David shared personal testimonies, with Scott discussing his ability to communicate the gospel to different audiences and David distinguishing between natural abilities and spiritual gifts. Mark shared his experience with Charismatic practices in his church, providing a broader perspective on how these gifts manifest in different contexts.

#### Personal Testimonies and Prayer

Personal testimonies added depth to the study. Beck shared a warning about the Super Bowl halftime show and suggested an alternative program to watch, emphasizing the importance of discernment and choosing content that aligns with Christian values. The group then moved into prayer, focusing on the cross and the importance of the gospel. They sought guidance and direction for the day, prayed for men's breakfasts and spiritual growth, and addressed specific prayer requests for individuals and ministries. The group also prayed for missionaries and church leadership, the silent multitude, and healing and strength for those in need. They also prayed for outreach and evangelism in communities.

#### Closing

The study concluded with thanks to participants and those who stood by. The group was encouraged to continue reading the scriptures, understanding their meaning, and applying them in their lives. They prayed for grace and mercy to live out what they had learned and for the needs of those in their circle of fellowship. The frequency was returned to regular amateur use, and updates were shared on Candy and Mae's ministry in Kenya, the deaf school in Kenya, and Darlene's health and treatment options. The sharing of personal experiences and encouragement wrapped up the session, reinforcing the sense of community and shared faith.

#### Discussion Questions

1. How do you see the diversity of spiritual gifts manifesting in your local church community?
2. Can you share a personal experience where you felt the Holy Spirit was at work in your life?
3. How can we ensure that our spiritual gifts are exercised in love and for the edification of the body?
4. In what ways can we test the spirits to ensure they align with biblical theology?
5. How can we support and pray for those who are not actively participating but are listening to our discussions?

This Bible study not only provided a deep dive into the passage but also fostered a sense of community and mutual encouragement among the participants.

All right, Burt, we got you checked in. We are doing well on our end of the microphone and looking forward to a good day. All right, WB7MAX here looking for check-ins to the West Coast Bible Study. Please come down. Caleb, my guy, Fox 5. WB7SAB and Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee, good morning. All right, I picked up Sandy, WB7SAB and Beck, Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee. Good morning to the two of you. Beck, how are things? We're doing good in your cell, sir. Yep, we're doing real good down here, yep. All right, any other check-ins to West Coast I was sending, please? No. Kilo Mike 5 Foxtrot. Well, there he is. I saw you pop up on the FDR a few minutes ago, and I was going to call you out, but I thought, nope, I'm going to wait. I'm not going to jump the gun here, and the guy waits like three minutes to check in while I'm sitting here with bated breath and terrible suspense, waiting for Kilo Mike 5 Foxtrot, but he finally came through for us. Good morning, Will. How are you doing, brother? Well, I was just waiting for a break, and I was right underneath I'm doing okay. My wife gave me some collagen powder that she didn't like to put in my coffee, and it's a lemon lime, and it does not go well with coffee, so I'm going to have to make a new cup of coffee. Can you hand-fry that? Yeah, yeah, copy that. All right, we'll let you off the hook there, Will, since somebody jumped on top of you. Yeah, mix the stuff in the coffee. I just drink white black. I used to drink it with all the sugar and all the cream and finally got rid of all that. Now I can't stand it to be polluted. So, I understand the need for a new cup of coffee. Alright, any other check-ins, please come in. Yeah, we took a little trip to go see some snow. It's been a snowless winter here, KM5. Oh yeah, you got a little snow there. Well, that's good. It's been the driest winter we've had in 30 years. I hope we get some more rain down here because, um, we're not going to have any water and reservoirs if we don't. Okay. My concern for the summer is forest fire because of the lack of moisture, KM5. Yeah, copy that. That's a huge concern every year here. We always breathe a sigh of relief when the first rains come in the fall. So anyway, we had a close call a couple years ago, but so far we're doing okay. Last year was a pretty good year. All right, WB7MA, Exit Control for the West Coast Delta Study. We continue to look for check-ins. Please come down. Okay, 7CW. Yeah. Brian's in there. Brian, KJ7PWM, come ahead OK, Scott N7NP, unable to copy, Brian, KJ7PWM, can you provide a relay please? Yeah, he's checking in wishing you and all of us around the table a good morning, and he has no new partner to went so good morning Brian, we're sure it's sure good to hear your voice All right real good Scott, thanks for that relay Well, we've got about a minute to go before we get started with the West Coast Bible study any more check-ins, please come now WB7VZL. There's Roger. Good morning, Roger. How are you doing? Missed you yesterday. Yeah, I was listening and I heard you mention that you had missed my check-in, so that was nice of you. Yeah, I heard the sharing of the communion service. If I was going to add something, one of the logistics of the Lord's Supper is described in John 13. And I grew up taking that very seriously, and so we washed feet. So every time we washed feet before communion, so that's called the ordinance of humility. And I'm sure all of you are familiar with it. But that was the only thing that I was thinking of that was kind of unique. I wanted to have us pray for Gene. He's kind of a television listener and watcher, and I'm going to be associating with him today, I think, because of... probably more than I ever have before. So I'm taking him to church and fellowshipping with him. And so anyway, that's Gene. Over. Copy that. We'll be praying for Gene and praying for his salvation. Is he a believer or what's his relationship with the Lord? Over. Yeah, I will find out more, but he is a... He's been tracking with John Bradshaw on Channel 17 here in the valley. And it is written broadcast with John Bradshaw, and that has been what the Lord has used to track him to the Lord. Over. Yeah, copy that. Okay. Well, we will pray for Gene's salvation if he's not saved, or for his sanctification if he is. Also for your fellowship with him and your relationship to draw him near to the Lord. We'll also pray that God gives you words and wisdom as you deal with him. So, Roger, thank you for that. All right, WB7MX here. Any more check-ins, please come down to the call center. We're going to go back to the Alright, WB7MAX here, I didn't hear from Jerry, AE7ER this morning, Jerry, you floating around out there? Yeah, good morning, AE7ER, we have no fairway clear. Alright Jerry, we got you checked in, good clear signal, thank you for being there. Alright, that's Jerry, AE7ER. Okay, any other check-ins, come now. Hi, we're going to get started with the West Coast Bible Study. We are in 1 Corinthians chapter 12, and this deals with the question of spiritual gifts. You remember the Corinthians wrote Paul a letter asking him a bunch of questions, and he is working his way through those questions. and now he is dealing with the subject of spiritual gifts and their exercise in the assembly and how that, above all things, they need to be exercised in love, they need to be exercised in an orderly fashion, and they need to be exercised in such a way that the primary concern is the edification of other people. And so disorderliness, selfishness, a lack of concern for other people is not the way spiritual gifts are to be exercised. So these are going to be themes that we're going to see throughout chapter 12 and 13 and 14, and a lot of what we understand about what the spiritual gifts are, how they're to be exercised, and especially the love that is supposed to motivate their exercise is set before us in these passages. So before we get started reading, we're going to open our time in prayer. And so Jim, in 7B, could you please open your prayer for us this morning? I appreciate it. Thank you. Our Heavenly Father, we ask you another day is before us. We pray that you guide us this day. Let us know how we should speak to others and open up the doors as we look forward to bringing other people into the Lord's family. I heard there's people that need prayer this morning, Father. Names I can't keep up with, but just I remember people asking they needed prayer. So every prayer that's been brought up to you this morning through Pastor Mike, Max, excuse me, make sure that it's being answered in your will. guide us this day, Father. Watch over each one of us and make sure all our loved ones that are traveling the roads and running around, which I have four of them down in Oregon, I mean Utah, running around with a chucker sheet. Get them all in safe and be with us as we fellowship together. Give us all a good day and the wisdom and knowledge we need to answer all questions in Jesus' name. Amen. Hey man, thank you for that prior request Jim. About, and I would like to acknowledge Keith, K7NEB, good morning Keith, see you there on the SDR. And also Mark, W7UAR from Utah, good morning Mark, see you there on the Utah SDR also. Okay, so that is Keith and Mark, thank you guys for being there. Alright, we need to get started with our reading here, back out Alpha 5 Yankee. I'd like to ask you if you could read for us this morning. Beck, we're going to be reading in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. So Beck, Alpha Alpha 5 Yankee, go ahead if you're able. Roger, please stand by for a second. Alright, I shouldn't have sprung that on you so quickly, but we will stand by. Go ahead when you're ready. New King James Version. First to large, after 2 hours 1. Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant. We know that you were Gentiles carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus a first, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. There are diversities of gifts but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities but it is the same God who works in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretations of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things. distributing to each one individually as he wills. That brings us back to that South Alpha 5 Yankee. Yeah, back, real good reading. Thank you for that. All right, we are opening the subject of spiritual gifts. Any comments on this section, please come down to the call sign. Roger, WB7VCL, go ahead. My impression after hearing Beck reading it, don't limit the Holy Spirit. Don't fence him in. He can be expressed in many different ways. Over. Yeah, copy that, Roger. The Holy Spirit is sovereign, just like the Son is sovereign and the Father is sovereign, and His sovereignty is over the area of the work that He has been delegated to. by the Father and the Son, and one of those is the distribution of spiritual gifts. And so it says here in verse 11, So the Spirit is the one who determines who gets what gifts. and he has a variety of gifts that he distributes, some more prominent in the early part of the first century when the scriptures were still being formed. And then we're going to see another list of spiritual gifts in verses 28. And so it's interesting as we look at the list in Romans chapter 12, in Ephesians chapter 4, and here in 1 Corinthians chapter 12. So you're right, Roger, a wide variety of gifts, each one distributed as the Spirit of the East says. And the result, of course, is that all the needs of the body are met. Okay, great comment there, Roger. Any other comments, please come down to the call line. 5 Yankee? 5 Yankee, go ahead. Yes, sir, I'd like to make an announcement just before we go to prayer, okay? All right. Thank you Okay, WB7MAX here, back to you to make an announcement just before prayer Alright, are there any other comments that anybody would like to make on the passage? Please come down here closely Any relays? Yeah, Mark's in there. Okay, Mark. Good, Mark. Okay, Mark, KJ7PVT, please come ahead. Yeah, can you hear me okay, Matt? Yes, I can hear you. Go ahead. Please keep going, yes. There are of activities and that separates this out and then gives this section an outline. There are three types or diversities of gifts and we count them up. There are nine of them down here. So there are three groups of gifts with a total of nine. There's about three of them each. I'm not going to. I know that you have to listen to me and try to restate what I said. That's the first thing. So what I'm going to say here is that if you look up the word R in the English language, it says, that it is used to describe the tense. And this is what's called present continuous tense. It's unending. So the word "R" is the "O" "U" "1" and that is the present continuous tense. And the word "is" which is used in the ninth section, the ninth digit down below, is the singular present continuous tense. Alright, Mark made two points. I'll try to summarize those as best I can. The first is that he talked here in verse 4 and 5. He says, "There are differences of administration, but the same Lord, there are diversities of operations." but the same God and their diversities of gifts with the same Spirit. So verse 4 and 5 there, he talked about three categories. And then he's saying that when you look at this list of gifts that follows, there's nine of them. And so he was suggesting that these nine gifts are broken into these three categories. They're listed there in verses 4 and 5. And then he indicated... that the word "are" here, that's used three times in verses 4 and 5, is in the continuous present tense, so the idea that this is ongoing. And so it's a way in which we can organize this list And it's a way in which we can understand that these are not one-time exercises. These are ongoing activities in the church, and that they were practiced over the process of time. So, Mark, thank you for that. Appreciate that comment. And, all right, any other comments, please come down. Thank you. Papa Alpha. Papa Alpha, go ahead. Yeah, I don't know, Max. I know prior to being called to the mission field maybe, where I engage with timber workers, and you have to really – you have to really talk their language. You have to get inside their head a little bit. And so some of the simple analogies that I bring to the study here, you know, maybe as goofy as they are or whatnot, this is some of the... a variety of gifts, I guess, that you might say, that God's given me to put Scripture into the simplest form, because I have to read the room. Some of these guys... never graduated from high school, you know, but they're not dumb by any stretch of the imagination. They just live in a different world. You know, some of them live in camp trailers. They never, hardly ever, come to town. And so this is their life. And so when you're engaged with them, when you pull up to their camp, and they know who I am. You kind of have to speak their lingo. So the message never changes, just the delivery does. And I just feel like God's given me that gift that I can do that, Max. Now, if I was standing in front of the pulpit preaching a sermon, I may deliver something completely different. Does this make sense? And 7SPA. Yeah, Scott, it makes perfect sense. And you make a really important point there, and that is, you know, however the message is delivered, whether it's delivered in academic terms or whether it's delivered in colloquial terms. It's always the same message, just different methods of communicating that same message. And as you well said, we need to adapt the communication of that message to the audience to whom we're speaking. So if you're talking to a bunch of college PhDs, you're going to speak differently. Then perhaps if you're talking to some simple country folk who see things from the point of view of visual imagery. And so you're right, Scott. Jesus used parables a lot, which are really down-to-home illustrations taken from farming and fishing and the various normal activities that normal folk engaged in who were just out there blue-collar working. And so you're right, Scott. Your ability to draw out visual images and practical illustrations from real-life episodes and events is a way to reach a category of people that couldn't be reached just in terms of academic explanations. You know, Spurgeon, Charles Spurgeon, was a master at the use of word pictures, which is, you know, what you do. And nothing goofy about it. It's getting the message out in a way that the audience understands. And so, Scott, you know, really what you're doing here is you're manifesting that spirit of selflessness where you're thinking, what's going to connect best with this person? And so we don't say the message in a way that makes it easy for us. We say the message in such a way that makes it easy for our audience. And so one of the things they taught us in homiletics is consider your audience. What is their background? What's their level of education? What's their cultural environment in which they operate? How do they communicate? And then you communicate in such a way that it makes it easy for them to understand. And so Paul says later on here in chapter 14, we need to utter words that are easy to be understood. So, Scott, I think you make a really important point, and that is the Spirit gives different people in different ways to be able to communicate to different audiences effectively. And you have an audience that God's called you to minister to. God's given you the ability to minister effectively to them. in the language that they understand. So, good for you, Scott, and I appreciate the way the Spirit has gifted you in that regard. Okay, other comments? Please come down. WB7VZL. Roger, WB7VZL, please go ahead. Yeah, I'm certainly limited in my off-air perception this morning, but I can hear Scott, and I can hear you well enough to know that Scott is very much like the Apostle Paul, that he becomes all things to all men in order to reach them for Christ. And he says this a number of places. This is not the best place, but verse 33 of chapter 10 that we've covered, "...just as I also please all men in all things." not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved. And thank you, Scott, for, like I say, this is not the best passage of describing Paul, but he becomes all things to all men for the sake of Jesus. And that does require... A very special gift of the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Scott. Over. Yeah, real good, Roger. And you're exactly right. This is what the Apostle Paul is doing. He says in chapter 9, in verse 22, That's the week I became, is week that I might gain the week. I made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. So he says that also in 2 Timothy. He endured all things for the elect Satan that they might be saved. So Paul was constantly thinking about how can I express the unchangeable message in a changing environment. And so that's what we do. The message never changes, but the way in which it's explained changes. does change depending upon your audience and your circumstance. Paul was doing that. He conducted himself one way when he was with the Jews, and he would talk the language the Jews understood. And then when he was with the Greeks, he understood. He talked the way the Greeks understood. And so that's what Scott's doing. He's reaching the loggers. You know, you're reaching the homeless. Many times you've brought those requests. And, you know, others are reaching different audiences. So we have to be sensitive and look not on our own things but on the things of others and try to edify them. All right, real good, Roger. Other comments, please come down. PDI. P-B-B-7. PDI. David's in there. PDI, David, KK7 PDI, please go ahead. Well, I think it's important to see here in these passages that he's dealing with the diversity of gifts that were given. Everyone has different abilities, and we have to separate the abilities that God gives each person and what he's dealing with here about the spiritual gifts. The spiritual gifts were confirmed without any question. Just like the miracles were to confirm, they were signed to point to Jesus Christ. And so these gifts of the Spirit were given at that time to further the Word, to further God's message to people. And whether they were gifts of knowledge, democracy, appealing, they were all just to confirm and to prove that Jesus is the Christ and to further God's Word. But abilities. that we have, all zeroes. God has abilities, Max has abilities, I have abilities, Roger has abilities, but don't confuse those with spiritual gifts. And there is a separation there, and it takes a better setting up than people said about the WUJF Act. Yeah, David, you are exactly right. You know, we do need to draw a distinction between natural abilities and spiritual gifts. Some people have a natural ability to communicate really well verbally, but that's not the same as the gift of teaching. And so a spiritual gift is a supernatural ability for service. There's a divine element there. that takes perhaps the natural ability and elevates it to a level that that individual ordinarily could never function at given their natural abilities just as a human being. And so it's important for us to understand that there's a supernatural dimension to what's being talked about here. And so people will talk about some unsaved guy who teaches physics in college, and they'll say, oh, he's a gifted teacher. Well, that's not the spiritual gift. And so, David, I think you make a really important point here, and that is that what God does with spiritual gifts is he enables his people that are filled with his spirit to be able to function at a level and to a degree that is above and beyond natural human ability, no matter how good that is, and takes it up to a level and gives them an ability that is clearly divine. You know, I think so often... you know, I'll listen to one of my sermons and I think, "Where did that come from?" You know, I'm not that smart. I can't... you know, and you just realize, "Well, that was God working in me at that point in time." Because ordinarily, I'd never be able to do that on my own. And I think it's the same way with all of these gifts. And I know that anyone who has preached has felt that, where the Spirit of God just comes along and lifts you up and carries you on and gives you words and wisdom and ability that ordinarily you would never have. And so that's the operation of the gift. So thank you for pointing it out, David, that a spiritual gift is not just a natural ability. It's a supernatural enablement, empowerment, and equipping to do above and beyond what we can ordinarily do in our lives. All right, other comments, please come down. DDI, follow-up. DDI, follow-up, go ahead. DDI, follow-up. Go ahead. Yes, sir. DDI, follow-up. DDI, follow-up. Yeah, and when you get a gift, all that has to address this with the brethren because of the gifts that were there, that they were able, again, to lay their hands upon people and give them certain gifts. You don't see other brethren being able to take that gift and pass it on to anyone else. It could be a problem. But when you look at chapter 13, just real quickly, I'm just going to jump to one verse, and that would be verse 10. Because the spiritual gifts were in part. They, again, served their purpose. But he says here very clearly, but when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away with. And he's talking about Jesus. When that which is perfect has come, that which was in part will pass away. And so it's important to see when those spiritual gifts ended. And we're talking about the supernatural here. When they actually ended and it's done away with, and then because Christ comes on the scene and everything is different. And so it's important to have that kind of understanding of clearly what's taking place. I think a lot of times it becomes problematic with people with regards to what kind of gifts they actually have. Because the tongues were done away with. Those things were done away with. And so there's a lot of, and he talks about it. He gives descriptions. You're like a clanging cymbal. And when people spoke in a tongue, they spoke in a language they didn't understand. And there's plenty of passages that bear that out. It would take us a lot longer to study. Anyway, I just wanted to add that. Peter, can you send this out? I'll be right back. - Yeah, well said, David. You know, there is a distinction between foundational gifts and maintenance gifts. That is, the gifts that were prominent during the foundation of the church before the revelation was completed, we see a lot of gifts, for example, of miracles that are not operating today as a spiritual gift. I'm not saying miracles don't happen, but people don't have a gift of miracles. And so you're right, there's some gifts that were prominent that were foundational gifts Once the foundation was laid, the scriptures were completed, the church was established, the apostolic generation passed away. Then we have these maintenance gifts, gifts of teaching and giving and helps and exhortation and all these other gifts. So there is some controversy around that. Some people think all the gifts still operate to this day. Other people think that the revelatory gifts, that is the gifts that involve divine revelation or authentication, have passed away. And now we have the gifts that just involve evangelism and the building up of the church. And that's, of course, the category I'm in. But I'm going to try not to make that a point of controversy in this Bible study, because I know there's others who think that all the spiritual gifts are so operative today. That's a problematic issue. I know that we have churches like Pentecostal and Charismatic churches that attempt to exercise all the gifts that are listed in the scriptures. And then there are others like Baptist churches that just operate for those maintenance gifts. And the revelatory gifts and the authenticating gifts are seen as having passed away when the revelation was given. completed and the authentication of the apostles as the spokesman for God, the true spokesman, has been well established. So thank you for bringing that out. That's something we all need to think about. Our time is starting to run out a little bit, and I want us to focus a little bit on these first three verses. And he says here in chapter 12 and verse 1 that Now, concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. And one of the problems is that there's a lot of ignorance about the subject of spiritual gifts. It's not a simplistic subject. And there's a lot of scripture that relates to it. There's a lot of considerations that operate around it. And I think we need to think reflectively, humbly, and thoughtfully about this whole issue. And as David said, it's complex. And there's a lot of passages that have to be collated together to arrive at a proper understanding. So I just want us all to step back a little bit and say, "You know what? I may have some ignorances about this, and I need to study harder and be more clear about my grasp of this subject matter." And that's one reason why we need trained ministers of the Gospel who can help us weave our way through all of those intricate pathways and exegetical issues and logical considerations as we look at this issue of spiritual gifts. So I think what verse 1 is calling us to do... is not be satisfied with a superficial understanding, not only of this issue, but of any issue, and work hard at overcoming our ignorance. All right, other comments on this passage? Come now. KJ7, PBT. Mark, KJ7, PBT, go ahead. different about my love for Max and my love for other Christians that might be different than me. But I do have, you know, I live this. And my action, the way that you are speaking, we follow these. We have, every once in a while, a message in town. And the pastor will... and explain what is happening and we, uh, if, if, and, and there will be a, um, an interpretation to tell people what has happened. It is, it happens every once in a while. It's not all the time. It doesn't take over the service. And I myself have also, uh, when I was 15 years old, I was in the same business as the spirit of God gave to me. So I lived it. And the church that it follows me has shown here in the presence of Jesus Christ. So, I'm going to I'm going to call the police. And that is my big night job. This is not an argument, and I don't mean it to be that way. But I do need to stand and testify, and say the right words of what has been my life experience, my family's life experience, my wife's life experience, before I even met her, and a completely different background. and we're doing some tender and tender care as we approach these things because in the end what we're trying to do is build each other up and that's the wonderful thing that I enjoy about this group of men and women that we listen to every morning is that we do love each other. Yeah, Mark, really well said. Thank you for that. And Mark was saying that he is in a church tradition where all of these spiritual gifts continue to be practiced to this day. They're listed in Chapter 12, 13, and 14. And this has been Mark's life experience and that of his wife. And I just want to emphasize that if we have a difference of understanding of a passage, provided it doesn't impinge on the Gospel itself, that's perfectly fine. We allow freedom of speech here. We allow freedom of belief. We have some people here who attend Charismatic churches. We have people who attend non-Charismatic churches. We have people who think that the spiritual gifts continue to operate, without exception. We have others who think that some of the spiritual gifts have ceased to operate. Both of those positions are allowed on this Bible study. And Mark will be expressing perhaps a different position than I will or David will. That's okay. We need to understand that we need to hear from all perspectives, and that everyone is free to say what they have to say and to share the experiences that they've had. And yet, in spite of those differences, we all love each other. And Mark, one of the things I'd like to say is that one of my very best pastor friends was an Assembly of God preacher. And they practiced tongues and everything in their church. And yet, we had great fellowship together because we were agreed on the core principles of the gospel, and that is... the deity and the humanity of Jesus, His saving substitutionary work, and the necessity of salvation through repentance of sin and faith in Jesus alone. I recognize we're going to have some differences. I mean, we've got some brothers on this Bible study who believe that Saturday is the Sabbath. We've got other people who believe that Sunday is the Sabbath. And we love each other. We don't make it a point of controversy, but we do have an understanding. And so, Mark, it's perfectly fine for you to express different opinions. than others would express on this net. There's a spirit of love here, a spirit of peacefulness, a spirit of unity, and in no way is a difference of opinion being expressed any cause for division or resentment or withdrawal. It's just an opportunity here for us to sharpen. Iron sharpens iron. And so it's good for us to hear a perspective that perhaps we haven't thought of before and to be challenged by that. And so, Mark, thanks for that comment. Much appreciated. All right, any other comments, please come down. All right, I have another comment before we close, and that comment is based on verses 2 and 3. It says, you know that you were, in the past, Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols. even as you were led. So it used to be that these Corinthian Christians were idol worshipers. Now, in the idol temples, they also had counterfeit spiritual gifts that operated. They claimed to have a connection with the divine. They had oracles. They had prophets. They even had foreign languages. that they would speak that were counterfeits of the gift of tongues. And so in verse 3 it says, Wherefore I give you to understand that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord but by the Holy Spirit. Now the comment I want to make about verse 3 is this. However spiritual gifts are exercised, and whatever spiritual gifts are exercised, they need to be exercised in a way that's congruent with biblical theology and not in contradiction to it. So, for example, I've heard people who claim they have the gift of prophecy, and they prophesize something that is really contrary to the Word of God. Well, you know that's not of the Spirit of God. John says, test the spirits in 1 John chapter 4 to see if they are of God. You know, any spirit that does not confess that Jesus came in the flesh is not of God. So, you know, there are genuine spiritual gifts. And then there are counterfeit spiritual gifts. And there are people who are claiming to exercise the gift of miracles or the gift of tongues or the gift of prophecy or the gift of healing. And those can be legitimate, genuine spiritual gifts. They were in Bible times. But there's also frauds. that are exercising or claiming to exercise those kind of spiritual gifts. So we have to test the spirits. We have to test these exercises, spiritual gifts. And we have to say, is what this person is saying or what this person is doing, is that in harmony with the rest of the theology of the Bible, or is it contradicting it? And that's one of the ways in which we can test the claims. of those who say they are speaking for God or acting for God. So I think verse 3 is a really important point to orient as we proceed through the rest of these chapters. All right, we're about out of time, but I do want to allow for any final comments. Anybody have a final comment, please come to the middle. ATC 7, PBT. Alright, back outside the target. You had something you wanted to say before we went to fire. Go ahead, Brian. PBT is here again. Yes, Mark is out there. Okay, alright. Mark, ATC 7, PBT, come back. Thank you, Max. And as I said before, you and I have spoken about this. We both love each other. This is not.................. they do agree that Jesus is the Lord and they are on the spot. And I would say that rather than sticking in half and five, this is what we want to do with the world seasonally present. So there's a lot of distinction. But this is not an argument. It's just agreeing with you, although I am pointing out that the other half of that is well. KJ7 PDT. Okay, Mark's pointing out that from his perspective in these passages that these are present tense gifts that are still operating today, and that as they operate in harmony with what the Bible has to say about theology and doctrine, they are legitimate. So thank you for that, Mark. And you're right, we have a good fellowship and good love between ourselves, even though we may differ on some minor parts of theology, and that's always the nature of the Christian community. We're never going to be in perfect harmony, except around the basics of the gospel. In other things, we just cover all that with love. All right. Real good. Thank you, Mark. Okay, back to Alcala for 5 Yankee. Go ahead. Good morning, everyone. I want to make an announcement, and that is tomorrow the Super Bowl is going to be happening. Some people watch the TV and are going to watch the Super Bowl. I don't plan on watching it. If I do, it will only be to watch the Seattle Seat Chicken Blues. But the main point here is during the halftime, they're going to have a guy named what? Dumb Bunny or Sick Bunny or? Some kind of funny. Okay. And what it is, it's going to be a very satanic type of time. And we shouldn't watch that at all. And what's happening tomorrow in argument with this is on America's Real Voice, some people know it as AMVO, and what it is is Charlie Kirk. If you can get Charlie Kirk live. Charlie Kirk is going to be having a show at 4 p.m. on Dish Network on 219. I don't know all the other networks. And it's an argument against the Super Bowl and what they're shoving down our throats. And if you are going to watch, I'd appreciate it if you'd change your channel during that time. Or if you record, make sure you record AMO at that time because the stats will show that America is not game for what the NFL is playing. Top Alpha 5 Yankees. All right, Beck, thank you for that. Beck was just referring to the halftime show at the Super Bowl tomorrow. It's going to be satanic, and he's encouraging everyone not to watch that but to turn to a different channel. He said that Turning Point USA is going to have something during that time slot that you can watch. So you can look that up. I do not watch the Super Bowl. But if others do, just be aware of the wickedness that the NFL has programmed for its halftime program and turn that off or change the channel. Thank you for that, Beck. All right, any final prior requests? Please come to them. Hello, this is WB7VZL. Roger, go ahead. Well, it kind of reflects what Beck has talked about. It reflects verse 2. You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray by dumb idols. Yeah, and the NFL is trying to lead people astray with wicked programming by a satanic performer who is overt in his promotion of Satanism. All right, thank you for that. Okay, Scott, N7NPA, go ahead and lead us in prayer. but let's just focus on the cross this morning as we go to the Lord in prayer. All right, just clear the slate and just thank you for allowing each and every one of us around the table to come through this night season anewed, refreshed. around this table with a band of brothers and sisters, all, you know, as mentioned, iron, sharpening iron, with the loves that each one of us have. Different viewpoints, Father, but the most important thing is that the most important thing remains the most important thing. And, Father, we all recognize that that most important thing is that you were born as a virgin birth, and you've come and walked among us. and then went to the cross for our sins as we were so undeserving. This free gift that we accept you into our heart. And you were risen on the third day and now sit on the right hand of the throne. And so, Father, we just thank you and we glorify you. for everything that you did for us as we are so undeserving. You know, Jim in his opening prayer, he asked, "Pay for your guidance." Father, I want to echo Jim's thought to that as we prepare separate ways that we go out into the world today, that you do guide us and direct us, and we turn to you for that wisdom and counsel. Father, there's many of us that are going to a men's breakfast just a few moments away, you know, And that's where Jim's ministry is. George, I mentioned that he's headed to a men's breakfast. I know that I'm headed to a men's breakfast. Perhaps there's others that are headed to a men's breakfast. This is a time where, as men, we can... get an extra fuel in our tank, this spiritual food that we need, and reach out to those that are still unbuilt. This whole opportunity to build communities and shape men to be leaders. That's what these breakfasts are all about. Father, I'm thinking of Owen that Glenn brought up yesterday. You know, there was a time when Owen was a part of these groups. And so, Father, I just pray that you come down from the heavens and you lay your spirit upon Owen as he is struggling and going a little sideways. Father, we lift up Owen to you and we just pray that his eyes and ears can be opened. that your spirit can fill his heart. Father, we have other things to be so grateful for. Randy is preparing to have a place to live, and that is a beautiful thing. Father, Bert was sharing that he suffered a concussion. just a short time ago. We're in lower skills. We're really struggling. But He's so much better now, and He gives you the glory. And we shoulder with Bert as he had suffered and went through this concussion. Father, we are just so blessed with the different ministries, the gifts that you gave each and every one of us. some of them were covered this morning. Father, we want to lift up Roger to you this morning as he prepares to take Gene to church. Father, we pray for Gene's salvation, or perhaps if he's farther down the trail, we don't know, but you do, his sanctification. Father, we pray that through Roger's discipleship that Gene's spiritual walk will blossom. Father, we want to lift up Daylene to you with this recent cancer surgery. And with Daylene, we would like to put Amy also in this front row. As Amy just had her surgery last Wednesday, we never heard from Carol this morning. But chances are she's resting. So we just want to lift up Amy and Darlene together. Father, we just pray for a quick recovery. And we give you the glory that the doctors, the wisdom granted through their hands of steel, allowed a successful surgery for both of them. Amy and Darlene. Father, we were a shoulder with Mike with the passing of his nephew Dale. And Father, just the sorrow. Father, just allow this time of Dale crossing over the threshold and into your arms that this will resonate with those in Dale's family, especially with Sister Barbara, that you are you are alive you know I was just thinking of what I was reading yesterday Father in the book of Acts when Peter says it's really true it's really true that aha moment so Father I just pray for an aha moment for Barbara Father um As a group of your children, we want to rally around Brian's family, especially his son, K87ZIP, and his trade show, this worldly trade show that they'll be engaging in as people come by the booth. Father, on these worldly wares, allow this family to communicate the spiritual walk that each and everyone has in the love of Jesus and the acceptance of what it means to be a Christ child. Father, as we look at the big list, Father, I want to lift up Operation Worship to you, along with the Fellowship of Christian Longers and Doc's ministry, as he's preparing to go to the South Pacific Islands. And Candy, who is now over in Kenya. These are all missionary and missionary work. Some of it's down the road. some of it's across the creek, some of it's across the ocean. But all of it is glorifying and expanding the kingdom through your spirit. Father, we're just the tools. The workers are few, but the harvest is huge. And we just thank you for the outreach, the outreaches that are conducted to this Bible study. And Father, not only the missionaries, but the pastors, the pastors that lead the church family, that is represented by those that are around this table. Father, give them the support that they need in order to lighten their load. Take worldly rocks out of their back sack. And Father, I just know that those that are around the table here on a daily basis are being equipped to come along and stand beside the leadership team, if they're not already part of the leadership team, Father, and to assist. to grow and learn. To they themselves, I challenge those around this table to put the milk bottle away and get on a digestive spiritual food. Take your walk to the next level. And so, Father, I lift up the pastors and I lift up the church families that are in need of pastors, like Jim and Kevin's church there in Idaho Falls, and the Walla Walla University, and the Fern Ridge Christian Church. A lot of churches, Father, that's connected to this Bible study net are in search. for pastors. Father, there's many that stand in the corner, turn on the rigs, and listen every morning. We refer to those as the silent multitude. Father, if I could speak to the silent multitude at this particular time, I want you to know that when you're here, you're with family. Father, I just thank you for the presence. I just ask that whatever and when they hear the spiritual a dissection of the Holy Word, that this is a tool that will grow their spiritual walk. So, Father, I just lift up those concerns that the silent multitude might have. Father, I want to lift up Chris to you as he is... With this healing of a shadow's shattered elbow, you know, Chris is a friend of Brian's, KJ's son of PWM. We know Brian's lifestyle. Barrel racing and gaming and farming and delivering hulks and feeding cows. It's nothing for the meek. And so with that, things happen. And so with Kristen's shattered elbow, Father, just allow this healing process to be a time that you can stop dynamite and brakes of the world and turn and seek your face. Father, we are... We want to lift up Tyler to you. Mark is here with us this morning. And Tyler's struggling with this drug addiction. And so, Father, a fish hook from the world. And Satan is great at casting and throwing. these items out in front of us to hook us. And so, Father, I just pray that Tyler will have the strength to spit that hook out of his mouth to turn and seek your peace in everything that he does. Father, we want to lift up a brand new, and that's March 1st, and You know, all of us have had moms or have moms, and so we're going to give Fran the banner here. She's having her elderly health issues. Why don't we just pray that she will have a blessed day and that these health issues can dissipate, that she can get her sea legs back underneath her. Father, the number one thing that each and every one of us should have on our heart and on our mind this morning is those in our communities, the unfaithful, the unchurched, those that don't know you. You know, I just pray that each and every one of us will put a little gem in us and reach out, just as Jim's headed down today to do just that. Follow his lead. It's so important. It's what we're called to do. So I just pray that the Lord will put those folks in front of us and that we will come to the throne of grace with boldness and confidence and act out as we were instructed. Father, we want to just close in thanking you for your goodness. Father, we want to thank you for your mercy. and we want to thank you for your grace that nothing that we could ever do could get us into heaven but you shed your blood by dripping off the cross the brutalization that you went through that in following with the empty tone, you are the loving savior and we all glorify and thank you from the core of our being and all of us together we say amen back to you Max at BB7MAX and 7MPA Scott, thank you so much for that prayer. I really appreciate that. And thank you for leading us through the throne of grace. This is WB7 in the X-Net control for the West Coast Polar City. I want to thank all the stations ejected this morning and those who stood by to give us a clear operating frequency. We meet here seven days a week at 6:00 a.m. in order to read the scriptures, understand their meaning, message, and application, and then pray for grace and mercy to be able to live out what we learn. and for God to meet the needs of those that are in our circle of fellowship. I'll be returning this frequency now to regular amateur use. This is WB7MAX. I'll be clear and standing by. WB7, please go ahead. Roger, go ahead. I want to thank God for his prayer for my sister-in-law. And it was a wonderful timing in the sense that today at the Woodburn 7 a.m. in his church, he's going to give a report of believers in Kenya. and her last trip along with Mae. Max, you met. So you know Mae and Candy, and they'll be speaking at Woodburn today, over. Yeah, real good, Roger. I'm glad to hear that she's back. I wasn't aware that she had come back. And we'll be praying for Candy and Mae as they talk about... the needs there in Kenya and the ministry they engaged in. And praise the Lord for a successful ministry and a safe trip there and back. So that's good news, Roger. Thanks for reporting that, and we'll uphold them in prayer today. Go ahead. Thank you very much for that deaf school. It is amazing to visit when you consider that most of them don't hear a thing. and have never heard anything. I mean, some people project that it is a side effect of some of the medication for the malaria, and it's given at a time that's sensitive period. Apparently, it really affects hearing. At any rate, their mission, especially in June, is to build some badly needed staff housing. for the overseers of the school. Right now there's just no facilities except in the dorms with the kids. So anyway, there needs to be some on-site domestic quarters as well. And that's the report about the WB7 visa now. Thanks for the study, Max. Yeah, Roger, good report. I think there's a passage in the book of Proverbs that says that cold water to a thirsty soul is good news from a distant land. And, you know, it's just a wonderful thing to know that the gospel is going out across the world. in millions of different ways, through millions of different people who are all engaged in millions of different ministries in millions of different places. And, you know, Candy and May are reaching some deaf people in Kenya. You know, other people are laboring in Ethiopia, other people in Brazil, other people in the Philippines. And all these reports that we get are just so encouraging that God is managing, He's orchestrating this huge orchestra of ministers today. to convey the music, if you will, of his gospel in a thousand different places in a thousand different ways. So good report, Roger. Thank you for that, how refreshing it is to hear of what's been accomplished and also challenging to hear the need. I'm sure that funds are needed for the building of... that's residence for the teachers so that they can all have -- be co-located there with their students. So, all right, Roger, thank you for the report. And I assume Dailene is doing okay. Any news on Dailene? Over. Well, of course, we're still rejoicing that the -- the treatment options have been, so to speak, in her favor with the lymph system. As your dear wife, I appreciated that. In fact, I need to tell her that, what you just said, that Kathy also had a similar clear diagnosis with the lymph system. So, yeah, we got out for the first time last night to play violin. and with our favorite guitarist, the gospel guitarist. He's absolutely amazing. And we played for a 103-year-old along with his wife that is on the way of being 102. And I think they're celebrating this year their 78th wedding anniversary. And so I just couldn't let that go as far as his birthday. I've known him for many years. And so we got together and had the guitar with our group and Dailene came first time. Actually, I never met my long-time friend Earl. I had met Earl years and years ago in connection with Positive Life Radio in the Moses Lake for a translator project. And so she hadn't had the privilege of meeting as she did last night. Anyway, we played for their supper, so to speak, WB7 of EZL. And thanks again, Max. Hi to Kathy. All right, Roger, good report on dealing there. Thankful for that. And I'm so thankful that, you know, it was stage one and not anything more than that. Early intervention is really the way to go when it comes to those things. So I'm pleased that it turned out that way. And so, yeah, just encourage Darlene. Kathy had stage one. They did the lumpectomy. We did radiation. If we had it to do over again, we wouldn't have done that. She did get cancer back 15 years later, another stage one, same place. And that led to a full mastectomy. And the consequences of the radiation really complicated that down the road full mastectomy because of the tissue damage that was done by the radiation. So just sharing my experience, I'm sure technology has improved and treatment options are now much greater than they were. back in 2000 when we went through all of that and we are 26 years down the road.
