### Bible Study Summary: Romans 15:7-21

#### Introduction
This Bible study session was led by a group of participants with diverse backgrounds and interests, including amateur radio operators and individuals from various walks of life. The study focused on Romans 15:7-21, a passage that delves into the unity of Jews and Gentiles within the Christian church and Paul's mission to spread the Gospel to the Gentiles. The discussion was rich and multifaceted, touching on themes of unity, the role of Christ in bridging divides, and the importance of sharing the Gospel with those who have not heard.

#### Romans 15:7-13: Unity in Christ
Paul's message in Romans 15:7-13 emphasizes the unity of Jews and Gentiles in the New Covenant Church. This concept was revolutionary under the Old Covenant law, where the distinction between Jews and Gentiles was significant. The inclusion of Gentiles into the kingdom of God as Gentiles was a mystery of the Gospel, highlighting Christ's role in uniting these groups. Satan's role in creating division between Jews and Gentiles was also discussed, emphasizing the importance of focusing on core Christian beliefs for unity. This passage underscores the importance of mutual respect and understanding among believers, regardless of their background.

**Discussion Questions:**
1. How does the concept of unity in Christ challenge our preconceived notions about who belongs in the church?
2. In what ways can we actively work to bridge the divides that Satan seeks to create within our communities?
3. What are some core Christian beliefs that can serve as a foundation for unity among diverse groups of believers?

#### Romans 15:14-21: Paul's Mission to the Gentiles
In Romans 15:14-21, Paul discusses his ministry to the Gentiles and his suffering for Christ. The idea of offering the Gentiles as a living sacrifice to God is highlighted, emphasizing the importance of preaching the Gospel to those who have not heard. The passage also stresses the need for mutual edification and knowledge among church members, reinforcing the idea that the church is a community of believers who grow together in faith.

**Discussion Questions:**
1. How does Paul's suffering for Christ inspire us to persevere in our own faith journeys?
2. In what ways can we offer ourselves as living sacrifices to God in our daily lives?
3. How can we ensure that our communities are places of mutual edification and learning?

#### Prayer Requests and Technical Discussion
The session concluded with a variety of prayer requests, including Steve (W6YSI) and the Challenge Church, Pastor Doug Eshman, Jacob (cancer recovery), Harriet (caring for her sister), Keith (health and return home), Jeff (AK6OK) and Bible distribution, and Mark's mom, Fran (health issues). These requests reflect the diverse needs of the community and the importance of prayer in supporting one another.

Additionally, there was a technical discussion on radio setup and frequency management, as well as a conversation about voting systems and national security. These discussions highlight the practical applications of faith in everyday life and the importance of staying informed and engaged in civic matters.

#### Conclusion
This Bible study session provided a deep dive into the themes of unity, the role of Christ in bridging divides, and the importance of sharing the Gospel. It also underscored the importance of mutual support and prayer within the community. Participants were encouraged to reflect on how these themes apply to their lives and to actively work towards building a more unified and supportive community of believers.

**Final Reflection:**
- How can we apply the principles of unity and mutual edification in our daily lives?
- What steps can we take to ensure that our communities are places of growth and support for all believers?

This summary encapsulates the rich discussion and insights shared during the Bible study, emphasizing the importance of unity, faith, and community in our lives.

All right, WB7MX here, Net Control for the West Coast Bible Study. We're going to be reading Romans 15, 7 to 13. That's Romans 15, 7 to 13 is what we're starting out with today, so you might be looking ahead at that section. We've got a couple of minutes here before we get started. Any more check-ins, please come now. And there is Will. Good morning, Will. Good to have you. How are you doing? Oh, I'm doing okay. I was having trouble with the SDR. I got it working. Yeah, okay. Copy that. Trouble with the SDR. Mine are working fine, Will. So if that's any encouragement to you. But your voice is good and clear here. Good copy. Feel free to chat us up here because we got you loud and clear. All right, that's Will, QMIK5 Foxtrot. All right, other stations, please come down. WB7VZL, good morning. And there's Roger, WB7VZL. Good morning, Roger. All ready to go to church today? Well, it's kind of a new start. I was responsible for significant portions of last Sabbath at Woodburn, my sister-in-law's church. as kind of a fill-in for a pastor that wanted to break with his family. Imagine that, over. Yeah, copy that. Well, thank you for being there and filling in for those guys, because pastors sure need a break. All right, so that's Roger, WB7VZL. Any prayer requests, Roger? Well, No. Yeah, I certainly wouldn't refuse prayer for my family. We're going to have a family community. I call it the community of the house on Sunday morning. And that's not something that is particularly enjoyed by people that have been autistically inclined. So, yeah, the dynamics are always... and they never cashed it. And what happened is they changed the address for where you mail your taxes to, and they didn't tell anybody. So you either need to get your check mailed into the new address, which I don't know what it is, but I went online and paid it. So if any of you are wondering how come the government hasn't cashed your check, it's because it was mailed to the wrong address. They changed the address, and they didn't tell us. I'll pop a 5-Yankee back to men. All right, thanks for that public service announcement. Appreciate that, and... and anybody that mails their check to the IRS and it doesn't get there, it backs as they change the address. All right, before we get started with the West Coast Bible Study, I just wanted to make a little announcement myself. Steve, W6YSI was able to get in contact with Bob Kasich's DDS. And it turns out that Bob is in an assisted living care facility and his wife Anna is in a different assisted living care facility and they are trying to sell their house in Chico and so that's why Bob has not been on the air. We are in Romans chapter 15, verses 7 through 13, at 7 through 13, where Paul is continuing to talk about the culmination of Jew and Gentile in the New Covenant Church. We don't understand how revolutionary this was because of all of the teaching about the separation of the Jews from the surrounding nations. and how they were to keep themselves separate from them and not intermarry with them, not interact with them other than to bear witness to them. And now we've got these folks right in the church alongside them. So we've been talking about how they're to relate to each other, how they're to interact with each other, all through chapter 14, and then, of course, to the first part of chapter 15 here. And we'll be winding up that section today as we come to verse 13. Paul will move on to other matters. Well, but before we get started, we want to open our time together in prayer today. And so, Roger, WB7BZL, would you please open in prayer for us today? Dear Heavenly Father, it is a privilege, as we have mutually consented a number of times, to be able to be around the Word of God. in real time through radio, through this table, around the table. And so we invite your Holy Spirit to join and be part of that table experience. The living Christ through the Holy Spirit, may he also be part of our group today. In Jesus' name, amen. Amen, Roger. Thank you for that. I appreciate that. And, Will, keep your mic by foxtrot. I'm going to ask you to read today, if you can. You've got a good signal into my radio, at least. And so, Will, if you could read for us, please, Romans 15, verses 7 through 13. That's Romans 15, 7 through 13 there, Will. Okay. All right, not hearing anything from Will, I'll go ahead and read that section. Romans 15, 7 to 13, I'll be reading out of the King James. It says, "...wherefore, receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God." Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers, and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy, as it is written, For this cause I will confess thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. And again he saith, Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people. And again, praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles, and laud him, all ye people. And again, Isaiah saith, there shall be a root of Jesse... And he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, in him shall the Gentiles trust. Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Ghost. All right. Any comments on this section, please come down with your call sign. We could be some of these at all. Roger, please go ahead. What a lineup. What a lineup that we can rejoice over today. My, I was very moved. To say the least, it sounds like Colossians 127, that wonderful mystery of the Gentiles and the Jews coming together. I was in the hospital I was just turning to it to quote it, but you know it by heart, I think, Max. Over. Yeah, actually, I don't. Go ahead and read that to us, Roger. Give me a moment and I'll find it. Okay, I got it. Colossians 127. It says, To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. All right, so yes, and that's also spoken of in Ephesians 3 as well, the inclusion of the Gentiles with the Jews into one body, that wonderful mystery prophesied in the Old Testament. Go ahead there, Roger. Well, yes, and I can see why. I can see why it is a mystery, especially coming from... the tribe of Benjamin and want all his pedigree and to be called by the living Christ. First of all, that was an incredible miracle. And then to be called to join these two groups together under Jesus was the... Well, that is the mystery of the Gospel, that Christ could permeate these two groups and bring them under one headship. Over. Yeah, amen. And as I said in my opening statement, we don't realize how revolutionary this was. It used to be that when someone was brought into the Jewish nation who was a Gentile, number one, it was very rare. And number two, they were required to be circumcised and actually become Jews. by conversion. And here we have Gentiles being brought into the New Covenant Church, not being circumcised, not converting to Judaism first before they become Christians. They just come in as raw Gentiles. And that was just something that was abhorrent to the Jew under Old Covenant law. So you're right, this is revolutionary. And you mentioned the big list here, Roger. And what's fascinating here is Paul quotes four separate Old Testament passages showing the inclusion of the Gentiles as Gentiles into the kingdom of God and into the covenant community of the people of God. We see that same thing being done. in the Jerusalem Council in Acts chapter 15, where James there quotes a couple of Old Testament passages showing that the Gentiles are to be included as Gentiles. They don't have to become Jews first. So this was a revolutionary concept needed a ton of scriptural support to persuade the Jews that this is the way it was supposed to be, and it really blindsided them. And that's the idea of the mystery here. It's not something spooky, but something... unheard of, unknown, and could not be known unless it was divinely revealed. So, Roger, thanks for pointing all that out. I appreciate that. All right, other comments, please come now. Papa Alpha. Papa Alpha, please go ahead. What I see here, Max, is Satan being the great wedge, and a lot of us have taken a wedge. What a wedge is, we'll take the backside of a splitting ball, and we'll set it up, on the block of wood that we're trying to break apart. And what Satan's trying to break apart here on this block of wood is one half Jew and the other half Gentile. And he's using the wedge for a division. And Paul is circling the troops. And I really feel in a lot of ways that Satan works in the same way amongst denominations. He will get denominations. He will be the wedge being the division between denominations. And, you know, this here, right here, is a non-denominational Bible study. And if we just revert to that the most important thing is that the most important thing remained the most important thing, and that is that Jesus was born of the virgin birth. He come to this earth in human form. He walked among us, teaching us, and then going to the cross, crucified and risen on the third day. That's the most important thing, and all of us agree on that. All the other little things let those chips fall where they may. But this is a... This is a solidification, if that's even a word, that all of us are one if we focus on the most important thing. In 7 and PA. Amen, Scott. Well said. Thank you for that comment. Before I respond to that, the men would like to acknowledge J.R.K.6LBP and also Keith, K7NEB from Sandpoint, Idaho. Keith, good to have you with us. and also JR. Alright, back to you, Scott. Yes, you know, there was tremendous potential for division in the New Covenant Church between Jew and Gentile. And Paul was constantly combating this hostility these two groups had to each other's, because it wasn't just the Jews that looked down on the Gentiles. The Gentiles didn't like the Jews either. And now here they are, sitting side by side in the same pew in church from completely different backgrounds, and conditioning, with reference to their consciences and a whole bunch of stuff that we've been talking about in chapter 14 and the early part of 15. And, you know, what we need is for them to focus on the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace, as it says in Ephesians 4. And to recognize that, you know, he's a Christian, I'm a Christian, he loves Jesus, I love Jesus. He has the Spirit of God in him, I have the Spirit of God in him. We're both going to Heaven. We're both saved by grace through faith. And yeah, you know, there's these differences of culture, background, and perhaps various other issues that are annoying. But we need to look past those things, and we need to focus on the core and the essence of our unity. And Scott, as you well said, that is repentance of sin, that is faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, it's recognizing the ultimate final authority of the inerrant Scriptures. And if that's the case, then we have grounds for fellowship and we have grounds for serving together, working together, loving each other, and upholding each other in our walk with the Lord. So you're right. That's exactly what we do here on the West Coast Bible Study. You well said it's a non-denominational study. And so as long as someone's within the realm of Christian orthodoxy, that is, they embrace the fundamentals of the faith with reference to salvation and the authority of the Scriptures. then we are of one mind and one heart and laboring together in the service and cause of the kingdom. So this getting along of these Jews and Gentiles in the Old Testament is like us getting along here on the West Coast Bible study. We don't all agree on various things of doctrine that are not at the core of the gospel. It's okay. We still love and serve. We're all growing. And we're all making progress, and praise the Lord for that. So let's hold each other up and not tear each other down. Let's draw together and not pick each other apart. And, Scott, I always appreciate that spirit of love and unity that you manifest here on the net. All right, other comments, please come now. Zedek's in. Zedek's in. Kevin, go ahead. Yeah, wonderful passages here. And yeah, as you point out, and this is still kind of following through as Paul continues to talk about the fellowship of the background, how the Gentiles have been grafted in to the promises of Israel. And but the beauty of this, too, is, as you point out, the fellowship and the unity of this. And I like them. verses 15 and 16 where he refers to the Gentiles almost as a sacrifice, if you will, a living sacrifice. If he's kind of in a priestly position to offer the Gentiles up, you know, not for slaughter, but as a living sacrifice to fulfill the promises of God and the ultimate promises to Israel. But... Anyway, it's just an interesting take on a priestly function, if you will, as he's glad, really excited in many ways to minister to the church. to reach out to the Gentiles, and not just as a church planter, not just as a missionary, but in a way that helps fulfill the mystery, the fullness of the promises of God by bringing in the Gentiles, preaching the word to the Gentiles, to all nations out there. KB7 is that example. Yeah, Kevin, well said. And you know, it's so important for us to realize that the focus of Paul's ministry was to the Gentiles. He himself said that many times, and he's going to be reinforcing that, especially in this next section that we read. Kevin was referring to verse 16, that I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles. And so we see Paul defending the Gentiles. bringing them into the church, going into Gentile areas and preaching the gospel. And you know, it was especially hard for a Jew to be especially dedicated to reaching out to the Gentiles. So that was Paul's special focus. And we really see that in Galatians chapter 2, where Paul was having a chat with Peter and James, and the agreement was made that Peter and James, they're going to go to the Gentiles, I mean to the Jews. And Paul, he was going to go to the Gentiles and say they had their areas of ministry. We have that on this net. You know, we've got a brother here, a good brother, Roger W6RLJ. He's focused on the South Pacific, right? And then there's others that are focused on France or Germany or, you know, the Far East or wherever. So Paul was focused on the Gentile world and bringing them the gospel. All right, other comments. Please come down. Yeah, we could be seven of these at all. Roger. Yeah, I happen to look at my margin reference here on verse 15 and 16 that Kevin highlighted. And sure enough, it's in red letters. It's the quote from Jesus in Acts 9, verse 15 in red. Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine. to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel. And then when you suffer for something, verse 16, for I will show him, meaning Paul, how much he must suffer for my name's sake. So you can imagine when Paul speaks of that, how much he's remembering what he's suffered. And he's so privileged, he says, to suffer for Jesus' sake. Amen. Yeah, amen. What's interesting is that Paul got stoned by the Gentiles, and he also got stoned by the Jews. The Jews didn't like him going to the Gentiles, and the Gentiles didn't like him preaching against their pagan gods. That guy had a rough road to hoe, and yet he was faithful unto death, and he was given the crown of life. So, yeah, well, you know, we probably ought to just go ahead and read this next section. There's been several comments on it. And, Roger, read for us, please, if you would, verses 14 to 21. That's 14 to 21 there, Romans 15. Roger, go ahead. Okay. Okay. Yeah, I've got a page turned here, so bear with me here as I do that. This is WBSMV's Al, and I'm reading from the New American Standard Bible, verses 14 through 21, I believe. And concerning you, my brethren, I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able also to admonish one another. But I have written very boldly to you on some points as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God to be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest. the gospel of God, that my offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, in Christ Jesus, I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God. For I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed, in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit, so that from Jerusalem and round about as far as Erechim, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. And thus I aspired to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, that I might not build upon another man's foundation. But as it is written, "They who had no news of him shall see, and they who have not heard shall understand." Oh, my Paul is full of wonderful quotes, isn't he? Yeah, Roger, great reading. Thank you for that. Kevin made a great comment there on verse 16. Kevin, you were talking about Paul offering up the Gentiles. Can you comment on that for us, Kevin, please? KB7, Zedek 10. Well, yeah, you know, he kind of takes a position as a priest, if you will. As part of God's plan, and including the Gentiles, God foreknew, as he foreknew those that would be saved as Jerusalem and the remnant in his plan, he also foreknew that he would be setting... Israel aside as a nation for a period of time to bring into fullness of the Gentiles. And Paul purposes and recognizes the Spirit's calling on him to, in order for God to fulfill, you know, part of God's plan to fulfill. His promises to Israel is the offering up of the Gentiles. And so, you know, this, and you recall back in chapter 12, he calls us to offer ourselves up as a living sacrifice. And here he kind of plays that role as the priest, if you will, the intermediary. One preaching the gospel to those that have never heard. You know, the Jews kind of grew up with the covenants and the understanding and should have been the first in line ready to embrace the Messiah. But clearly they did not as a whole. So God opened the door to the Gentiles, and Paul recognizes, hey, God wants me to reach out to the Gentiles that, um, you know, and so he's offering them as honorable service to God, KB7 to that extent. Yeah, amen, well said. And you know, anytime we lead someone to Christ, whoever they are, that is, if you will, an act of worship and an offering to God of, here's one more soul, Father, for your glory. Here's one more soul redeemed by your son. Here's one more soul set aside for your service. So every time someone gets saved, it's an offering to God, to his glory, to his worship, and to his praise, and to the victory of his son over Satan and sin alone. and the grave. So that concept of being priests and offering to God the fruit of our service, one of those fruits is the redemption of the lost, that God is pleased to use us as instruments. And so just like the Old Testament priests offered up animal sacrifices, Can you untie that? QMW5F go ahead Will. Yeah I apologize I was in the crossroom and didn't make it back in time when you called on me. I have a question on verse 21. This is what was written. that doesn't know the gospel? Or where is it that the gospel hasn't yet been preached? And that's one of the reasons why we do foreign missions. That's one of the reasons why, you know, especially during the late 1700s and 1800s, we had the modern missionary movement, people groups in areas of the world that have yet to reach. And you would think by now with the global communications as we have it, you know, with everybody having a cell phone it seems—I remember You know, that's the thing, that the Gospel is not guaranteed to continue on generation after generation. You know, you look at, for example, North Africa, all the countries in North Africa, that used to be saturated with Christianity. Well, around 6-700 A.D., the Muslims came in, killed all the Christians, the son of is, go ye therefore. Well, there is some sense of that. But really, if you look at it, it's as you go, as you're scattered, as you're scattered out, you know, from Jerusalem on outward, as you go, make disciples and teaching them, baptizing them and teaching them all things. So as we go, let us be faithful as a witness. As Paul, what a wonderful example we have in Paul, KB7 is that example. filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. And so he's talking about the mutual edification that goes on between the members of the church. And, you know, I think that this is descriptive of our little group here. You know, we all have an attitude of wanting to do good to each other. We have collectively quite the knowledge of the scriptures. When you put all of our understanding and all of our background together, Is that Xen? Is that Xen? Go ahead. I just want to thank you for your summation. I couldn't agree more, Max. KB7, is that Xen? All right, real good. Thank you for that, Kevin. Appreciate that. Okay, any final prayer requests? All right, well, let's pray together. Our kind and gracious Father, we thank you so much for this Bible study, for the encouragement that it is, and the blessing that it builds in each of our lives. Father, we're going to pray today for our brother Steve, W6YSI, and the church he goes to, the Challenge Church. Lord, we pray for peace and unity in that church. And we pray for strength and wisdom for the pastor of that church, Doug Eshman. Lord, not only did he lose his wife, but he has all the normal challenges of pastoral ministry. And Lord, he's not getting any younger. He's practically 80. that they seem to be doing well in their new living situation. And Lord, I just pray that we would be able to be a blessing to both of them down the road, if by email, if not by radio, perhaps by phone calls. So, Father, thank you that we have their contact information. Anybody wants that, just email me. And Lord, I just pray that your good hand of blessing would be on them. Father, we want to pray today. is now clear of cancer. Father, we prayed for him for months and months and months, I think over a year. And Lord, we just thank you that Jacob has beat the cancer. And Lord, we just pray that the rest of his life would be a sacrifice of praise to you, not only for physical healing, Father, but also for the conversion of his soul and for his deliverance from the cancer of sin that eats and corrupts and ultimately destroys. that she would have peace over the absence of her husband. We pray for Harriet, her sister, who's caring for her, that you would give her strength, Father, to be able to manage Ronnie's needs as well as her own in Keith's absence. And Lord, just heal Keith rapidly, bring him home quickly, and Father, give him peace in his lungs. that he needs to be redeemed and reconciled with Jesus. Lord, I pray that he would be open to Brian's ministry and that you would reach out and not only heal his elbow, but Father, give him a new heart. Take out that heart of stone and give him a heart of flesh. Father, we pray for Jeff, AK6OK, and his ongoing Bible distribution to the soldiers. And Father, may he know true deliverance from this addiction. Father, we pray for Mark's mom, Fran, and her health issues. Lord, you know what those are. Be pleased to meet Fran's needs. And now, Lord, we just want to thank you for your goodness and your mercy and your grace to each one of us. And for the gift of your son, Jesus Christ. Father, help us to love him. Help us to live for him. Help us to be like him. 5 Yankee? Uh, 5 Yankee, go ahead there, Beck. Why do melons have weddings? Why do melons have weddings? Um, boy. Anybody got an answer to that? Why do melons have weddings? over the sea. Do you see what they can see? Whitey seagulls fly over the sea because if they flew over the bay they'd be called bagels. Ha ha ha! That sounds yummy. That's good Brian, thank you. I Okay, how about an FT-991A question for you, Pastor Max? Well, you can ask. I'm not sure I can answer, but I'll give it a try. Go right ahead. When you do that, does the new frequency that you're on pop up on top? It does, yeah. So, like right now, I have West Coast Policy in the memory here. I'm on memory 27 right now. And so 3.975 is above. the line there and of course 3975 is also below the line because it's simplex, right? When you are on a repeater frequency, you will have the send frequency on the bottom and the receive frequency on the top and so when you key up, you'll see the send frequency jump to the top and then when you un-key, it jumps back down to the bottom. So that's how that works. Over. Oh, chastise me. All right, go ahead and chastise me there, Scott. Why in the world would you have West Coast Bible Study in slot number 27 when it should be in number 1? Over. You are so right. Well, you know, when I got the radio, I was not on West Coast Bible Study, brother. Yeah, you guys have a blessed day. It's 7 a.m. today. I didn't have enough guts to ask the question. Oh, yeah.
